well, I'm not yet adding flash animation with scores, and other changes or actual shuffle cuts as in film-making. I trim and mark. :>
huh. haven't seen that product before, I don't think.
That is correct, 1 kyu, now earned shodan certificate. But the 1st 6 practices back, kendo will be somewhat strange to me, per a friend of mine.
yes, it definitely has a part, the feeling pressured to move, with backwards the easiest. I end up justifying it w/: "well, I have to create distance to strike"
;I haven't been practicing, although I am going to continue. Sometimes my Sensei and Senpai have still caught me going backwards, (I guess literally and figuratively).
I can't compete in the Shoryuhai in the upcoming 2009 b/c of non-enrollment in Uni., but the next tournament I compete in where I have a camcorder and a friend to help record, I will post a video of the match(es), as well as any others from the same tournaments.
Hopefully this will be a speedier process than the one I'm still undergoing, though on hold, for the older miniDV tapes as I last borrowed a camcorder to transfer to PC then to edit what I did in the older version of Windows Movie Maker (clunky).
good for you...so you like video editing? I do a lot of it myself...i use videostudio pro.($99).
so what rank are you now? you must have been a kyu back in 2004.
as for the stepping back it may be a confidence thing...you may feel overwhelmed...or your private space is violated. I read this problem is common with women competitors (or females that don't compete till adulthood) my lousy 2 cents ^_^
Thanks! I'm not sure what it is, I'm guessing it's a combination of dearth of gym time and too much tension in the wrong places, or perhaps pure mechanical physics, but moving to the side really unbalances me. I'll have to work more on this.
Pretty cool. If you don't mind a small observation, you made more backwards strikes than forward strikes and they were all very slow. Your opponent scored both points after you were going backwards.
I was waiting and waiting for youtube to show me your comment! I was hoping it would be tips on my playing from fresh eyes. Yes, I noticed that I got hit when I was moving backward to make a distance to strike, but the pattern of going for more hikiwaza than regular waza wasn't that obvious to me, so thank you! In the second Harvard B game (game 5, not yet uploaded) and on, I start to win, but I am sure you can pick out more places to work on even then, if you happened to have the chance.

chin, i would like to see how your kendo has progressed.
this was two years ago & you faced an extremely formidable opponent (I know I play her often in regular practice).
did you compete in the 2008? will you compete in the upcoming 2009 event?

balance all comes naturally but if you pull it off you can seriously throw your enemy off track and dis arm him. (or just halve him):)

Got any videos of the UCSD/UCLA final round? These videos are great, by the way.

I hope so, it should be in the last tapes, they're not logged but that'll be the 3rd tape I convert to look for it, request taken.
