the name is not NIKA, is NIKE, yes liek the athletic brand, as it is in Latin, if you want to pronounce it right its it pronounced as NIKI,,, THAT IT MEANS VICTORY IN ENGLISH ,my dear Slav Bulgarians!!
the word "tshelniku"which translated in English means foremost is a very interesting case. The British historian Hammond mentioned its etymology and said that the word "tshelniku" in the ancient Macedonian language had a meaning of "leader of a group".

@CassanderMakedon its the language from where u lent the word macedonia , its the language that kiril and methodius were writing when they invented urs ....
There is a necessity for any country to have a history in order to identify with a past...You dwell into a past that you think is so much anti-Greek but global history records a significant period which is called hellenistic beginning with the expansion of macedonians in the world. Whatever their ethnic origins of these people the point is that their actions managed to make a civilazation evidently greek radiant across all nations....the macedonians i guess didnt mind to be recorded as greeks
@CassanderMakedon omg u are really stupid , istoria means knowledge after investigation , it comes from the word ΙΣΤΩΡ , and u can only copy/paste the letter ΩΜΕΓΑ/OMEGA
The modern Greeks are largely of Slavic origin. They are not the descendents of the ancient Greeks. That noble race, greatly mixed with barbarian blood during the middle ages, was almost completely destroyed in the course of the frequent uprisings against Turkish rule. Slavic immigrants gradually repopulated the country. (The Popular Science Monthly, edited by J. McKeen Cattell, Volume LXXV, July to December 1909, page 591.)
From Strabonos Epithomatus: "And now, in that way almost all of Epirus(GREECE), Hellada(GREECE), the Peloponnese(GREECE) AND Macedonia have also been settled by the Skiti-SLAVS."

haha Slobodan can be slav how much he whant nobody deny his right to self determination!;)
When the Great War comes, Macedonia will become Greek or Bulgarian, according to who wins. If it is taken by the Bulgarians, they will make the population Slavs. If we take it,we will make all of them Greeks.
We were NOT slavs no Bulgars no Greeks we were Macedonians from allways!Deal with that!;)
we not take enyting from you!;)You Alboas take Grekia from Macedonia! Our Macedonian province the Hell-ass and the village Athens!;)
Next to them in this respect are the modern Greeks, who, for the most part, are of Sclavonian origin, and, where they are not purely Sclavonian, are a cross-breed in which Sclavonian enters very largely. (The Phrenological Journal and Magazine of Moral Science for the year 1843, Vol. XIV, page 246.)
Ya ya pontakis are greeks but you are Albos and Slavs!;)kikikiki
As of 2002 more than 98,000 foreign pupils were enrolled in Greek schools, accounting for almost 9 percent of the overall school population. As regards nationality, 72 percent are from Albania.
Clearly, Albanians are not unknown to Greeks and the new relationships emerging from the contemporary migratory context can be seen as superimposing themselves into a pre-existing trans-Balkan context.
Rhigas of Valentino.author of poems, revolutionary proclamations and a constitution
In this document he spoke of a sovereign people of the proposed state as including without distinction of religion and language Greeks, Albanians, Vlachs, Armenians, Turks and every other race. (Nations and States, by Hugh Seton-Watson, page 113.)
This point is made in almost all publications on Albanian nationalism (e.g. Skendi 1967 and 1980). In the nineteenth century, the Greek historian Constantinos Paparrigopoulos considered the Albanians a race that could be acculturated into Hellenism. His viewpoint was greatly influenced by the considerable Albanian contribution to the Greek war of independence (1821-1828). (Nationalism Globalization and Orthodoxy by Victor Roudometof, page 156.)
Moreaas Fallmerayer traces it back to the Slavic word more, the sea which nearly encircles the Morea. The Morea forms the most southern part of the Kingdom of Greece and is divided into the monarchies of Argolis, Corinth, Lakonis, Messenia, Archadia, Achaea and Elis.
hmmm i cant understand how can be greeks in Macedonia when greeks not have in own Greece!aaaaahahaha very funy!;)
Overrun by the Goths and Vandals, it became prey, in the second half of the 8th c. to bands of Slavic invaders who found it wasted by war and pestilence. (International Cyclopedia a Compendium of Human Knowledge, American Editor-in-Chief Richard Gleason Green, 1890, page 204.)
There is the case of Karamanlides, a predominantly Turkish-speaking Christian Orthodox people, who were forced to go to Greece although they did not necessarily identify ethnically with the Greeks. At the time of the exchange they numbered as many as 400,000. (Mediating the Nation News, Audiences and the Politics of Identity, Mirca Madianou, page 31.)
hahaha primeminister Karaman is proud helenene and "macedonian" aaaaaahahahah!
followed by violence, recourse was had to arms, and the two elder brothers united against Vely, the offspring of a slave; who being forced to expatriate himself, embraced the perilous profession of those Albanian knights errant, more commonly known by the appellation of kleftes or brigands. (The Life of Ali Pasha of Jannina, 1823, page 26.)
pssss and read real book from Misirkov do not read the bolvars falsification!;)
The term Greek differentiates the language spoken by inhabitants of modern Greece from the languages of the surrounding countries; but there is disagreement on what the Greek language was, is, or should be. At the time of independence, the range of local dialects was significant; substantial portions of the population spoke Albanian. (Politics in Modern Greece, by Keith R. Legg, page 86.)
huhuhuhu Albos,Slavs,Pontuses,Turks the modern Hellens!aaaaaaaahahaha
There were few Muslims here; the inhabitants largely of Albanian stock, were only imperfectly assimilated into the Greek nation (Politics in Modern Greece, by Keith R. Legg, page 48.)
General interest was first aroused by a controversy as to the racial derivation of modern Greeks. The war of Independence had won the sympathy of Europe; and it was a rude shock both to Greece and to her champions when Fallmerayer announced that her inhabitants were virtually Slavs."
The race of the Hellenes he declared in his History of the Morea was routed out, and Athens was unoccupied from the sixth to the tenth century. Only its literature and a few ruins survived to tell that the Greek people had ever existed. What the Slavs had began the Albanians completed. (History and Historians in the Nineteenth Century, by G. P. Gooch, 1918, page 491.)
Where are we to look for the descendents of the Greeks of old? Travelers tell us that, as late as the sixteenth century, Athens was but a castle with a small village; and that Sparta, divided by two tribes of the Slavi, the Ezeriti and the Milingi, had not only lost her ancient name, but it was impossible to recognize the site in which she had stood of old. (History of the Island of Corfu by Henry Jervis-White Jervis ESQ., page 250.)
With them it would be a resurrection, accomplished, no doubt, after vast pains and many troubles, the more so since the Greeks are a composite people among whom the descendents of the veritable Greeks of old are in great minority. The majority are of Albanian and Suliot blood, races which even the Romans found untamable. (In Greek Waters: a story of the Grecian War of Independence (1821-1827), by G. A. Henty, 1893, page 40.)
You are Arvantie idiot!;) Or slav or vlach or turk or pontus!;)
When arriving by airplane at Athens, one lands at the new airport at Spata. Spata is a town situated in the Messogia region that bears and Arvanite name that means axe or sword (in Greek spaps, spaya from which derives the Albanian Spata). The term Arvanite is the medieval equivalent of Albanian. It is retained today for the descendants of the Albanian tribes that migrated to the Greek lands during the period covering two centuries, from the thirteenth to the fifteenth.
In 1358 the Albanians overran Epirus, Acarnania and Anatolia and established two principalities under their leaders
Naupactas fell into their control in 1378
Other Albanians and Vlachs invaded the Catalan principality of Boeotia and Attica, and a great many Albanians settled there as peasant-farmers in 1368 and later.
The penetration of the Greek mainland which we have described occurred during the hundred or more years after 1325.
following the alleged discovery of Slavic buildings by the German excavator at Olympia. The claims were answered by Paparrigopoulos himself, by reinstating his 1843 position that there was indeed a Slavic presence in the Peloponnesus in the Middle Ages, but that the Greeks need not worry because the Slavs were culturally absorbed (The Nation and its Ruins, by Yannis Hamilakis, page 115.)
Groups of men in stately Albanian costume, with their grand walk and graceful air, stalk up and down with eastern impassibility, price an article, call for a fotia (brazier of coals for lighting cigarettes) , at the cafés, or converse in the strange patois of Greece about the last conclusion of the vouli or house of delegates. (Greek Vignettes a sail in the Greek Seas, Summer of 1877, by James Albert Herrison, page 148.)
so, in the Middle Ages, these Albanian mountaineers have brought both war like spirit, bright costume, and beauty of person, to refresh the Hellenic race. There are still, even in Attica, districts where Albanian is the common language; there are Albanian names famous in Greek annals, especially in the great war of independence (1821-1831) and even among the sailors of Hydra, so famed for their commercial enterprise and their deeds of war, the chief families were Albanian in origin.
A group of 10,000 Albanians with their families and their flocks appeared there, and asked if they could be admitted to the Peloponnesus. They were accepted by Theodore, who was the principle ruler of the Peloponnesus (Greece Old and New, by Nicholas Hammond, edited by Tom Winnifrith and Penelope Murray, Pages 39 to 44.)
Many means more than the village of Athens!hahaha 10.000 and the village Athens 6.000 hahahahahahah! I cant belive "100%" hellenenene!haha
"This may be partly accounted for by the fact that these conscripts included both Albanians from the settlements in Attica and other parts of the Kingdom and pastoral Koutso-Vlachs, all of whom habitually speak their own dialects and learn Greek only as a foreign tongue. (Greece of the Hellenes, by Lucy M. J. Garnett, 1914, pages 33 and 34.)
kikikiki keep repeating maby you will start to belive!;)
It should be stressed, however, that the Greeks as an ethnic community during this period [1840s] included many Grecophone or Hellenized Vlachs, Serbs or Orthodox Albanians. (Greece and the Balkans Identities, Perceptions and Cultural Encounters since the Enlightenment, edited by Dimitris Tziovas, page6.)
Are you shure you killing tham or make tham Greeks?haha You are one of tham!hehe Sometimes i feel sory for you!;)
I will kill my self if Albanians gain freedom for me!hahaha
I have already said, and I will repeat it, that not one-fifth of the present population can with justice be called Greeks. The remainder are Slavonians, Albanians and Turks, with a slight infusion of Venetian blood. (Travels in Greece and Russia, by Bayard Tailor, 1872, page 262.)
"Because of numerous and protracted foreign occupations, true Athenians were a relatively small minority even in the Age of Pericles. In a later period, the city was suffering from severe depopulation and was re-stocked with Albanians. At the time of Greek independence in 1834, Athens was a miserable village with a population of only 6,000. (Insight Guides Athens Greece Series, page 42.)
Turkish or Albanian,Athens is our village!Villagers!;)
There cannot be an Athenian alive today who can trace a direct line of descent from classical times to the present day without leaving Athens. Because of numerous and protracted foreign occupations, true Athenians were a relatively small minority even in the Age of Pericles. (Insight Guides Athens Greece Series, page 42.)
In this document he spoke of a sovereign people of the proposed state as including without distinction of religion and language Greeks, Albanians, Vlachs, Armenians, Turks and every other race.
It seems that in their minds the distinction between Greek and Orthodox was still blurred. (Appletons Annual Cyclopedia and register of important events 1901, Third Series Volume VI, page 113.)
"It is because of this that many Greek-speaking Albanians, Slavs, Rumanians and Vlachs were easily assimilated and indeed became important players in Greek patriotism at the time. (The Empty Cradle of Democracy, by Alexandra Halkias, page 59.)
Contemporary historians state the Emperor Basilius also was a Sclavonian; many cities bearing Sclavonian appellations still exist in Greece, as, for instance, Platza, Stratza, Lutzana, (The Foreign Quarterly Review Vol. XXVI, published in October M. DCCC. XL., 1841, page 73.)
you mean slavs defeat the Romans? the hellens not defeat anyone!;)
But it has been argued that since the modern day Greeks are not the descendents of the ancient Greeks: The Star of Vergina is not a Greek symbol, except in the sense that it happens to have been found in the territory of the present-day Greek state. (Experimenting with Democracy Regime change in the Balkans, edited by Geoffrey Pridham and Tom Gallagher, page 271.)
Kosovo is Kosovo is not Albania. And belive me from my expirience the Siptars are not wellcomed from Albanians from Albania, thay hate tham saying that the Siptars only make trubles.
Constantinople and all continental Greece were for centuries ruled and occupied by the Romans, and during many subsequent centuries invaded and colonized by Slavs. The Crusades and the Latin conquest brought a large influx of western Europeans, commonly called Franks, and, in later times, extensive Albanian settlements were made in Greek districts. Clearly, the modern Greek must be of very mixed blood. (Turkey in Europe by Sir Charles Elliot, page 267.)
In reality however, just before the Greek war of independence, most Greeks still referred to themselves as Romans. Vlachavas, the priest rebel leader who rose against the Ottomans, declared, A Romneos I was born a Romneos I will die. (Bloodlines from the Ethnic Pride to Ethnic Terrorism, by Vamik Volkan, page 121..
kikikiki
nobody knows who are you and what are you ,even you dont know!;)
It is one of a group made famous in the Greek revolution of 1821 by the bravery of its Albanian settlers, in defense of a country which they had never adopted for their own till this moment of danger came."
The Atlantic Monthly: A magazine of literature, science, art and politics Vol. XLIX, January 1882, page 31.
hahahah 75 % albanians in Macedonia??? you dreaming boy... anway its 24 %
and they are not albanians, they are siptars, wild muslim sort who came from Kosovo in Macedonia and they try o steal identity of Albanians, like greek want to steal identity to Macedonians!!
"To the average Peloponnesian Greek of 1821,even had been able to read, the manifesto would have been incomprehensible. He would probably not have recognized the appellation of "Hellene" as applying to himself and he would certanly have had no appreciation of the conception of Hellas as nation state."

It is Thessaloniki not Solun, Florina not Lerin, Edessa not Voden, Naoussa not Negus you ignoranimous stupid morons! Yeah you know these GREEK names???
Untill you learn how to speak and spell you will not be treated seriously.
Your time is approaching slowly and surely.
Your language is so ugly like a stinking barbarian. Now Malakadonian crawl in to your hut with your ladder as you do not have elevators there from what I saw from pictures of your clowns brothers.
Hey Malakadonian! You have never had nor will you have any relation with the Macedonians of Alexander the Great. Neither in language, nor in history nor in culture. Can you spell Thessaloniki?
You are a country of bastards with no past nor future.
Your name should never include anything related to Macedonia. Not even FYROM
Here is a proper name for you: "The narion of 2million bulgarobardaskan bastards to the north of Greece 20% of which are Albanians"
Hey pustis...plenty Baranko and Branislav in Macedonia, none of them (unless lost his way) in "greece" proper-I agree with you there...when I say "greece proper" I mean south of Thesally, and no Branko of course amongst the Turkosporic Pontiacs-Madziri (orthodox Turks) who were settled in Agean Macedonia by "greeks" in 1926. Therefore I think that Turkish history, linguistics and etymology is more closer to your natural "faculties" rather than Macedonian, stick to it!
And of course, we too "respect" your efforts to preserve your age long falsities, but to your regret it seems by the day it isn't longer possible. You, of course, I believe know the age old axiom: "TRUTH IS SLOW BUT VICTORIOUS ALWAYS"-so suck it.
Hey MALAKADONES, if NIK-NIKA-NIKI is "greek" word?, are you saying that 11 more Slavic nations (apart from us Macedonians) are "greek" too??? HAHAHHHAAAa....poor you, you yet don't know what kind of dangerous fire you are playing with.
not only a lier but also an idiot.niki-victory is a greek word and various statues of this divinity, are found in the greek territory.IF it is a monkeydonian word, how come it exists in all the slavian states as you say?is it because your roots are common and your alphabet was created by 2 greeks during the byzantine empire(cyril and methodius)listen bulgarian leftovers.just look inside you and you will find the truth.face it you were created by tito in order not to be absorbed by bulgaria
are you a total retard??don't you see?if this word is common in all SLAVIAN countries has to mean something.I will help you out.you are slavs too and you are using the greek derived cyrillic alphabet.oh ever heard of the museum of louvre..it's in paris.know what is the first statue to see as you enter?the NIKI of samothrace.ever heard of it pile of shit? get a fucking life
HELL_ASS(es)!!!, wanna be MAKEDONIANS?, you can only be MALAKADONES..thats what you are> IDIOTS!! it is correct that NIKA-NIK depicts only one thing: MASTERSHIP, POSSESSION or RULERSHIP over something. Thefore, the adjective NIK-NIKA is Macedonian word which you stole from us. To affirm this, you can find this word in extensive use today not only in Macedonian, but in all other Slavic languages.
Thefore "greeks" suck our Macedonian cocjks and acquire the title of: MALAKADON-IKI KUROPUSHO-NIKI.
Branko (Branislav) is a nice FYROMan SLAVONIAN, CZECK, POLLAK NAME for ALEXANDER, originated from Bronislav servant of protection. Homer gave this name to prince Paris of Troy at the time that no slavs even existed. What About the Goddess Nike of Samothace. Did the Thracians also steal your goddess name. As for NIKA the "A" is only for those who never understood the sound "H" in its real use.
YOu way of thinking and using a languager shows your suverainity in mind, spirit and intelligence. If Aristotel the Stageirites saw the use of the beuaty of your writigs he would spot on you.
not only a lier but also an idiot.niki-victory is a greek word and various statues of this divinity, are found in the greek territory.IF it is a monkeydonian word, how come it exists in all the slavian states as you say?is it because your roots are common and your alphabet was created by 2 greeks during the byzantine empire(cyril and methodius)listen bulgarian leftovers.just look inside you and you will find the truth.face it you were created by tito in order not to be absorbed by bulgaria
aren't all Greek Gods in fact Egyptian Gods? Didn't Herodotus state that? (Hdt.2. 50 (schedon de kai panton ta aunomata to theon ex Aiguptou eleluthe es ten Hellada). See also Hoddinott, The Thracians, 169-70.
greece is older than you could possibly immagine.when solon went to egypt, the high priest who welcomed him, told him.you greeks are a race of short memory.your ancestors have been here and have ruled this land long before...nevertheless,this is an issue between greeks or between greeks and egyptians..surely does not regard a bunch of bulgarian leftover slavian dennier and bigshot wannabes.GET A FUCKING LIFE
I respect your efforts to create/have a non Greek identity altough this identity labeled simply Macedonian is unable to distinguish you from Ancient Greek civilization (including the ancient macedonian) and modern Greeks.
NIKA IS NIKH in Ancient greek doricand means VICTORY .You are makING yourselves ridicule in world academics by claiming otherwise.
We have been Romii Macedonians for centuries and still are.
Those who were brainwashed by Bulgarian propaganda for decades and after 1945 reinvented themselves into a new slavic macedonian idenity is another story.
20 years ago you were still sucking communists cock. 17 years ago your former presiden k.gligorov stated that you are SLAVS that came here in 600 a.c and you have NOTHING to do with ancient MACEDONIANS.1 year ago you organized the folkloric carnivalesque parade-circus comes to town,in order to honour your ("history") several months ago,you locked in a psychiatry a former politician who stted the truth thus you have nothing to do with ancient macedonians.give me some more numbers pleeeease
what!!!! don't forget to mention saint-NIC he might bring you a new nation this christmas.kalaz-NIC-off which shows that victory will come out off kalaz. bionic-electronic-clonic,polyphonic-stereophonic and don't forget supersonic.all clearly fyromian words.not to mention, monkeydonik the one who would like to rule within the monkeys.go climb a tree pathetic gipsy and get lost.thessaloniki, dear mongoloid, comes from thessalon-niki,meaning victory of the thessalians.just drop it
ama i grcite se makedonci be sto se bunete :))) mamiceto smrdlivo grcko pes makedonski da im go kleca makedonci bile grcite luge bez stram se tie i bugarite taqtarski kako eden slavi abe ziv ke go deram ako go fatam
Yes she was the peon of victory, peon of the God's.
The town Tesalo-nika have her name, when Filip II Macedonian win a battle over the Greeks in Tesaly named his dother Tesalonika. And Tesalonika later was a wife of Macedonian army general Cassander and he named the town Tesalonika in honor of his wife.

The term Greek differentiates the language spoken by inhabitants of modern Greece from the languages of the surrounding countries; but there is disagreement on what the Greek language was, is, or should be. Spata is a town situated in the Messogia region that bears and Arvanite name that means axe or sword (in Greek spaps, spaya from which derives the Albanian Spata). not only a lier but also an idiot.niki-victory is a greek word and various statues of this divinity, are found in the greek territory.IF it is a monkeydonian word, how come it exists in all the slavian states as you say?is it because your roots are common and your alphabet was created by 2 greeks during the byzantine empire(cyril and methodius)listen bulgarian leftovers.just look inside you and you will find the truth.face it you were created by tito in order not to be absorbed by bulgaria

aren't all Greek Gods in fact Egyptian Gods?

So actually all the words in doric ancient greek that transform attic η (ιτα) into α (α) are slavic macedonian?
Funny to see those who assumed to "defeat" the Greeks using greek words for their victory.
In modern era english language became dominant because of the British empire and American dominance.
redgreek2811 2 years ago
What you consider to be "greek" might not be that ...if you know what I mean...
igorbog88 2 years ago
I respect your efforts to create/have a non Greek identity altough this identity labeled simply Macedonian is unable to distinguish you from Ancient Greek civilization (including the ancient macedonian) and modern Greeks.
NIKA IS NIKH in Ancient greek doricand means VICTORY .You are makING yourselves ridicule in world academics by claiming otherwise.
redgreek2811 2 years ago
You don't respect anything but your own nationalist claims on everything and everyone...
20 years ago your parents didn't even know where Macedonia was.
Stop making fools of yourselves
"Greeks" !!!
igorbog88 2 years ago
Since I have roots from Kastoria and Florina (Prespa and Korestia area) you should be very careful in your arguments.
I am Macedonian and therefore Greek.
You are kidding yourself by trying to create a non-Greek Macedonian identity.
20 years ago you were living in a Jugo-era and suddenly after 1990 you discovered Ancient Macedonia.
redgreek2811 2 years ago
20 years ago I was Macedonian as were my grandfather and grandmother and theirs before that.
I hardly find it insulting from someone like you who has no concept of life to come here and talk about somekind of Greek-Macedonian relations.
Get a clue!
If you are Greek, you cannot be Macedonian.
igorbog88 2 years ago
We have been Romii Macedonians for centuries and still are.
Those who were brainwashed by Bulgarian propaganda for decades and after 1945 reinvented themselves into a new slavic macedonian idenity is another story.
redgreek2811 2 years ago
Hahahaha
yeah, I see the greek-bulgarian propaganda has gotten to you.
Believe what you will. I honestly don't give a fuck.
igorbog88 2 years ago
the problem of yours is that wherever you find statues, ruines of ancient cities there are Greek letters, greek names, greek coins etc.
You can't have Alexandros the Macedon and Tsar Samuel at the same box
redgreek2811 2 years ago
They were both Macedonian. Why not?
;)
What is this "greek" you keep going about?
igorbog88 2 years ago
20 years ago you were still sucking communists cock. 17 years ago your former presiden k.gligorov stated that you are SLAVS that came here in 600 a.c and you have NOTHING to do with ancient MACEDONIANS.1 year ago you organized the folkloric carnivalesque parade-circus comes to town,in order to honour your ("history") several months ago,you locked in a psychiatry a former politician who stted the truth thus you have nothing to do with ancient macedonians.give me some more numbers pleeeease

was she macedonian?
gtafan94 3 years ago
Yes she was the peon of victory, peon of the God's.
The town Tesalo-nika have her name, when Filip II Macedonian win a battle over the Greeks in Tesaly named his dother Tesalonika. And Tesalonika later was a wife of Macedonian army general Cassander and he named the town Tesalonika in honor of his wife.
