  • This is a great video indeed. Can't stop listening to it and watching it. Well done.

  • Yes!

  • This song is played in the start of "Two Five Three" by Fice, /watch?v=fZVI5ohXgfU

  • I'll always love this dirty old town. :) Hey hey, I grew up here. Everyone here hates on it, all the time, but it really is a great place!

  • Not one damn shot of Tacoma? Stupid video!!

  • oh how i miss that crappy town...

  • 253 :)) i love tacoma

  • Walmart just made a first successful step toward building a new 153,000 square foot store in Tacoma. I guess that makes this song Ironic.

  • Marvelous video. Touching and sweet.

  • I love Tacoma!

  • So get this, funny the last line is about how she hopes wal-mart never finds you Tacoma. Wal-Mart is trying, on 23rd and Union. Lets keep them OUT!!!

  • Wow, I wish I would have had this song when I was deployed to Iraq a few years back. Tacoma, Born and Raised.

  • Not sure why this brought tears to my eyes. Joy and Love.

  • Good Ol' Tacoma.

  • Make room for the 253!!!

  • @AdamT253 253 reporting in!

  • Sorry at 1:06

  • Beatiful pictures, the one that´s is on 3:21 is Walker Evans?

  • Tacoma is a big but not overly big, its small enough that people know each other but its also got a sorta big city feel to it at the same time

I am proud to say that i am from Tacoma for as long as i live here it is the place that ive grown up most in but i will always call Kent my hometown

  • @123Psychopathickilla I love Tacoma, its been my home for almost 18 years.

  • @Tacoma1993 really? Ive been wanting to meet people that were around for the 90's and saw all the problems Tacoma had back then like I really wanna hear people's stories about the way things used to be and just learn the history of the city I live in...

  • @123Psychopathickilla There is a series of books, mostly pictures that show the different neighborhoods. Go on Amazon and search "South Tacoma" in books to get started. As far as the 90s... Tacoma still has the same problems I feel. I left for a few years for the military (Early 2000s) and I came back several years later to a city that was a little more dangerous due to the criminal element being younger.

  • @123Psychopathickilla google "Hilltop Crips" or "Diamond Boyd" the founder of the Hilltop Crips they are the main reason that Tacoma gets a bad rap back in the late 80s and early 90s when they where running the streets i think either 1992 or 1993 the Hilltop Neighborhood of Tacoma had the highest murder rate of any square mile radius in america. plus Tacoma is a poor to workin class town and its next 2 Seattle which is a coffee drinkin rich yuppie town thats why seattle people talk shit bout TAC

  • @123Psychopathickilla That's cool, but I was just pointing out that I was born and raised here...TGH

  • Love this video!!!! I live in Tacoma so of course, I truly appreciate this song!!!

  • Oh Tacoma, how I love you.

Haha, my stepmom actually lived with Neko Case in the north end back in the day. Real close to Stadium.

  • oh, tacoma.

this and 'red tide' off middle cyclone are basically my rain-soaked western WA childhood in song form. love them.

  • I beg to differ: She has an AMAZING voice. Marry me, Neko.

  • Being from Tacoma, this song has a particular sentiment for me... Thanks for posting.

  • @ammiscemo Thanks! I think a lot of people have a home town that fits with this song, no matter where they are.

  • I will never stop breathing that Tacoma Aroma <3

  • This song is amazing. I first heard by shear accident and it immediately made me think of my dusty old town, spring Valley. This is my favorite song of all time. The Video is cool with all the old footage from what I awesome is circa the 20's & 30's

  • @visionsofed Thanks so much! Yes one of Fave all times as well.

  • lol...yea dogg tac town

  • Hell yes. I rep T-Town. Thanks, Neko Case.

  • this song always reminded me of waltzing mathilda

  • @hippiemama82 At last! At last! Someone else who noticed this! Thanks hippiemama82 you made me day!!! xxx

  • @0ldfinger ha! and you mine!! I thought maybe I was just crazy! turns out I'm still crazy but not mistaken :) and I agree with other peoples comments. video fits the song :)

  • How many of these videos & pics are actually taken in Tacoma? I wouldn't have pictured any of this from the lyrics. Just sounds like she's describing today's Tacoma.

  • You'll never hear a greater love song to a city.

  • Fantastic video. Thank you!

  • wow, I grew up in tacoma but never thought of it this way. gave me goosebumps..

  • Great video. One small suggestion - don't go to the effect too quickly on that very last photo. I think letting it linger a bit would be good.

  • @rtenenbaum : thanks - always good to get a constructive suggestion!

  • i'm not from tacoma but i do know this....the time i spent there is embodied in this song!! and the people that i know there......to a "t"....

  • I live in Tacoma. :D

  • Dusty? It rains in Tacoma. Streets were paved in 1910. When I was a tad pole, early 50s,we kids played in mud puddles. It was actually a good place to grow up until 1970s. LA crime came to town in the 80s.Tacoma rivaled Seattle until 1930s with a large Opera house built in the 1890 for the likes of Sarah Bernhardt, Houdini, Enrico Coruso. No grand old oprey & square dancing.

It's been a real city since 1880s. Railroad & electric lights & indoor plumbing, cable cars, a movie studio in the 1920s.

  • I just moved to Arizona from many years in Tacoma. I love this song and your video is well done. I miss Tacoma and life there.

  • I really enjoyed your video. I've loved this song (and Neko Case!) for a long time now, and your images fit into my idea of the time and place she is describing.

Thank you for being kind enough to share this.

  • You're welcome. It was great fun making it!

  • @toterola451 Time & place? Sounds like she's describing the way Tacoma currently is & always will be. haha

  • I have loved this song from the first time I heard it....great video too!!

  • Hey, that's kinda cool. I live in Tacoma. It's definitely the way she describes it though lol, it's more like a smaller version of Seattle.

  • Thanks very much - great to get nice comments like this!

  • @SuperYallow ... wouldn't have been paul rigby. he didn't join until the period leading up to FCBTF. but nice observation. super cool.

  • @SuperYallow For accuracy's sake, I have to throw it out there that Paul Rigby isn't on guitar in this song. I don't think he entered into the picture until "Fox Confessor."

    The liner notes credit the following guitarists for this song: John Ramberg - electric guitar; Travis Good - acoustic guitar, tenor guitar; Evan Johns - steel guitar;

And let's call the bass a "guitar," just in case: Scott Betts.

    :)

  • @SuperYallow That was a great shot wasn't it. FWIW this song predates Paul Rigby and it's probably Dallas Good from the Sadies playing guitar.

  • This is a great song, though Tacoma really is a pretty well-cultured place in alot of ways. Compared to New York, our streets are clean enough to eat off of; and with Starbucks, Microsoft, and all the cultural venues in the region, very few of the old stereotypical negative elements remain. Thanks for sharing this video!

  • Beautiful song and video from a one of the finest singers I have ever heard. Great music...she's an inspiration.

  • moved into Tacoma back in 1993, the place has changed a lot and the aroma is almost nonexistent... great video.

  • i like what youve done here. im from detroit, so ive always identified with loving a screwed up town. you captured the nostalgic wistful feeling i get when i listen to the words to this song. thanks

  • This song makes me happy!

  • Your comment made me happy!

  • This song describes Tacoma almost to a T. Haha

  • Fantastic, it's funny how little people change. Love those old candid films.

  • They put me in a trance. i want to know what all their lives were like...!

  • Probably at times both incredibly mundane and fascinating :)

  • Great job, one of my favorite songs of hers, and even if those clips weren't really from Tacoma, it still just kinda has a Pacific Northwest vibe about it. 5 stars. :)

  • Thanks! They just seemed to go with the mood of the song...

  • If you know where they're from, that would be awesome, but if not, that's ok.

  • Where were the video images shot? Were they actually in Tacoma? 'Cause I don't recognize the landscapes at all (and much of it hasn't changed really)...

  • They weren't from Tacoma sadly. I did look for stuff but couldn't find any clips except the famousone of the bridge (galloping Gertie) which didn't really fit with the song's mood! So I used other material I'd found, mainly 1940/50's clips of rural USA towns. I can find out exactly if you want to know!

  • Love the song, and a gorgeous vid to go with it. Great job!

  • I'd never heard that one before. Glad you shared it. Has the same message as the Eagles 'Last Resort'.

  • I told everyone I was a major Steely Dan fan (and I was) but I secretly hankered feelings for the Eagles...!

  • I loved it....5 more stars for you!

  • Cheeeers!
