As far as I know they are still playing electric "Violectra" violins and cello. I enclose the Violectra web address in case you're interested. They are incredible instruments, being a fiddle player myself, I wish I could afford to buy one.

I'm a violinist myself and no they're not viols, they are electronic violins, but with the extra string to make them able to play as a viola. Would love one myself but are pretty pricey, at leats the ones they are playing are and from what I've read the cheaper electric instruments are not worth buying.
