  • ffffffff aids

  • awesome

  • excellent video and breakdown

  • I don't get why Scottie on Magic leaves MJ on Vlade? Why not put MJ on Worthy and have Horace guard him?

  • @23jamesdixon HOrace had to guard Sam Perkins. It was the only matchup, because Paxson had to guard Byron Scott...

  • Comment removed

  • @bballbreakdown if you say that they would've lost the series if MJ guarded Magic all of the time read this:

    chasing23(.)com/did-scottie-pippen-always-guard-the-other-teams-best-player/

what you're saying is simply not true.

  • @23jamesdixon According to Sam Smith's infamous book "The Jordan Rules", Scottie wanted a crack at Magic again so he and Michael switched without Phil Jackson's consent. After Divac had his way down low, Phil called timeout and went ballistic.

  • i love it, both teams giving it all on offense and defense, the players are gonna get tired, but the hustle and heart they played with is something that lacks in todays average NBA games

  • the man the right side of Vlade at 8:20. it's Larry Drew right? lol :)

  • @Enemy1011 You are right - current (for how long?) coach of the Atlanta Hawks... Stay tuned - lots coming up this week here and on NBATradeTracker...

  • @bballbreakdown it his 1st year as Atlanta coach. he became an assistant coach for the Hawks before became as Head Coach. i can't wait for another video! :p

  • @bballbreakdown (for how long?)... for quite a long time. Drew is a decent coach. He screwed up in the reg season but he made an airtight gameplan for the orlando series and managed to win 2 in the chicago series without Hinrich

  • @fulatl111 We shall see - the Hawks seem to be on the edge of ripping apart their team, and that might make Drew the fall guy. I don't envy his position - that team isn't really built to get to the Conference Finals.

  • i really enjoyed watching this .

  • @garioldwin Thanks! Hope you've had a chance to check out our more recent videos - great stuff all summer, more coming up soon!

  • @bballbreakdown Yes I have also watched your "Why Bill Walton Was The Best Center Of All Time: Game 6 NBA Finals 1977 " which was even better . Hope you'll do more retro nba vids .

  • bballbreakdown son come on if can actually dunk, which means anybody can, Im only just 5ft 7inchs tall no lie. Simply just follow a workout course like the one I am using 50-inch-vertical(dot)com, it'll raise your vertical jump and your basketball talent.

  • bulls would have lost the series if jordan guarded magic? oh yeah. magic was still having his usual averages even when pippen or any other player not named michael jordan was guarding him. in game 5 he even had a triple-double wih 20 assists!

  • @DNY21 Don't be sensitive, the guy is also a MJ fan... As much as he hate say that too...

  • @scapicoco I don't hate to say that MJ was the GOAT...

  • @bballbreakdown I mean hate to say the phrase " MJ can't guard Magic"...

  • larry drew?

  • @TheDutchPaul YEs! good call. Keep running into him too - his son plays at a high school near to my team...

  • Ah the power of video editing. You can just cut out the parts that complete shit on your analysis. Like Jordan getting 4 steals and 2 blocks on Magic. lmfao Cut those out and throw in two shots made on Jordan and all of a sudden it's Jordan can't guard Magic. What a shit video. ahahahaha Try harder next time. The funniest shit is when he said Pippen was the key to guarding Magic, then the video shows Pippen getting scored on because Pippen never came close to guarding Magic as well as Jordan.

  • @DownloadDoctor1 You obviously weren't old enough to remember this series, I guess. Michael, for the first time in his career, couldn't handle Magic - and when they finally switched to Scottie on Magic in the 2nd game, the series turned around. I'll get Tex Winter and Phil Jackson to back me up on this if I have to.

  • @bballbreakdown No, you obviously aren't old enough. I saw every second of every game. Thus, why I mad my comments, genius. Pippen got worked. Watch the games, they're on here, shit for brains. ahahaha

  • @DownloadDoctor1 Um, I was at all the games in Chicago.

You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Watch some more of our breakdowns -it'll help you out in your knowledge of basketball games. You're welcome.

    Coach Nick

  • @bballbreakdown Pippen gave up more points and assists while guarding Magic than any other Bull player. lmfao Do the math on that, genius. Pippen got destroyed. Jordan contained Magic, held him to below his normal averages while guarding him. Pippen did not, again Pippen gave up the most points and assists to Magic out of anyone guarding him. Magic got his season averages in on Pippen. Watch the damn games, idiot, it's clear you're talking out of your ass.

  • @DownloadDoctor1 Where are you getting these stats? Show me where it's broken down like that anywhere reputable and then we can talk.

  • @DownloadDoctor1 You don't know what you're talking about. Bottom line, putting Pippen on Magic changed the series and allowed the Bulls to win in 5. I was there, I watched all those games, I've gone through them now, and that's the fact, jack.

  • @bballbreakdown Wow, this actually is the first video I have watched where they paid much disrespect on what you've shared... I mean, all who have watched your recent videos praises you... and now these guys - which I think/believe this is the first video they have watched from you - showered with much words used only or mostly by this generation...

  • great footage. I live in australia and love nba but ive never really seen much footage since before 2000 so stuff like this is fantastic. please do more!

  • @cyrilfan33 @dnttalktomeh Stay tuned - hopefully you saw our most recent, Game 4 from the 85 NBA finals...

  • DO MORE OF THESE!!!!

  • LARRY DREW !

  • @SonicBoom91 Good answer! That is who it is!! Did you check out our most recent? Game 4 NBA Finals from 1985 - Bird vs. Magic

  • @bballbreakdown His son went to taft high school with me; thats the only reason I know who it is lol

  • excellent video, this week end i tried to beat the Lakers on NBA 2k11 on HOF and it was impossible!!

I think this video will help me to win.

The last try yesterday was nearly the good, i refound oall the feeling to make good offense and make 3 pts shots with paxson and Pippen, thing i didn't success to do all this week end!!!

  • Great video. As a Laker fan, I definately agree Dunleavy was a liability and outcoached by Tex & PJ.

A few adjustments never made by Dunleavy:

    1) Get Byron Scott involved. Like you mentioned, Dunleavy's offensive sets were too predictable. Pat RIley knew he had to get Byron involved with screens and cuts. RIles knew that an uninterested Scott was also a liability on defense. When he got hot, the Lakers were unstoppable.

    2) Have another ballhandler on the floor / get into EARLY offense.

  • @Edd1e8 Interesting take, for sure. You are right, Byron got marginalized, as the Lakers fell in love with posting up. Hope you've seen our playoff previews, and stay tuned as we begin to breakdown the great games from this weekend!

    Coach Nick

  • Ac Green?

  • @105ziggy Nah - Larry Drew!

  • It seems like Magic is the greatest player of all time because of his feel for the game and how he could read the situation better than anyone else in history. Magic contributed 32-35 pts per game while Jordan provided 35 points. Magic was a better rebounder. He average 3.5 steals a game one season so his defense wasn't bad either. But Jordan is Jordan. It is hard to argue against Scoring champion and DPOY in 1 season. I just think people shouldn't say "Jordan is on another level" crap.

  • @unioncity Sorry, but I gotta say "Jordan was on another level"

  • Comment removed

  • @bballbreakdown

Typical Bulls fans' ignorance. Charles Barkley recently said he wouldn't have a problem saying one of the following players was the greatest ever: Oscar Robertson, Wilt, Bill Russell, or Jordan. And I respect his opinion on basketball WAYYYYY more than yours. How the hell can I guy average a 30/10/10 4 FIVE SEASONS and not be at the same level as M.J.? How about a guy averaging FIFTY for a season? A guy win ELEVEN rings (some as a player coach) and not be in the same level?

  • @unioncity

How can you claim to be a coach and say that the Lakers came out and did all they could? Aren't you supposed to tell us of what the Lakers did wrong and what they should have done better. You and the rest of Bulls fans are lucky the Bad Boys, Magic, Bird, and Kareem didn't come 5-7 years later or else history would have been written differently.

  • @unioncity barkley is a terrible analyst of the game. btw russell is NOT in jordan's level. a guy who shoots 44 from the field despite the fact that he was a center CANNOT be in the same level. sorry, it's just not possible.

  • @DNY

calling barkley a terrible analyst? when he is serious, he is the best NBA analyst out there. BTW, Russell is the greatest defender in NBA history. He would have the most DPOY awards. He would be the all time leader in blocks. He averaged more than 22 rebounds. AT 6' 9'! If it wasn't for him the league would not have black super-stars. I don't care if he shoots 20%. his defense and rebounds make up for it. Go ask any Hall of Famer. I know my basketball.

  • @unioncity barkley is a BAD analyst. all he do is joke around. his predictions are always wrong. he's always wrong. he's just wrong lol. russell? lol are you kidding me? yeah a good defender, but terrible offensive player. I mean come on. a CENTER shooting 44 %? and his rebounds aren't impressive considering that the pace of the game was faster. today he would average no more than 11.

  • So Jordan did have good players around him to win rings. Ppl act like he's god and won all those rings all by himself...

  • @ken0746 well, he actually did win by himself lol. pippen is overrated and you should see how his teammates played in the 1997 playoffs. they were terrible.

  • Im only 26 but youre absolutely right and I agree 100%, this type of b-ball is no longer seen. Which is a real shame

  • The player on the Laker bench was Larry Drew

  • @FamMoney510 A real shame - and YES! That's Larry Drew. Just met him, very nice guy. My team almost beat his kid's team in the playoffs. But we took the ball away from his son several times, good stuff!

  • Don't you think that the expansion is what led to the decrease in quality teams from 93-4 to now?

  • @ArmoredFelix Absolutely - a lot of teams had the equivalent of Bosh, James, and Wade back then, when there were only half as many teams. MUCH better shooters too..

  • So did you went to game 2 of the 1991 NBA Finals?

  • @fsc125 Both 1 and 2. I think the old Chicago Stadium actually levitated when Michael did his "Spectacular" move...

  • hey nick, do you think players these days are worse than players in the early 80s and 90s?

  • @ihatewonders There are some ball handling skills that are much better now, but pound for pound, they were much better in the 80's - primarily because there were half as many teams in the league - so many teams had the equivalent of bosh, wade, and James.

  • His name escapes me right now but he's the Atlanta Hawks coach. I know that much. LOL!!!

  • @bhard87 Larry Drew, Sr. whose got the Hawks running a motion offense and they're playing well...

  • PLEASE do more classic Chicago Bulls w/ MJ breakdowns. It would be nice to see what kind of teammates Jordan played with, their chemistry, and the difficulty of the teams they played with. Maybe you can break down why he's the best player of all time!

  • @ddtxpyrodevilxjr I'm waiting for more Bulls game to come on so I can capture them. For sure we will break down more of these!!

    Thanks,

    Coach NIck

  • On December 24th, a Friday, they are showing two games of the 1993 Eastern Conference Finals with the Bulls and Knicks. They are showing Game 2 and 5 and it's from 2 pm- 6 pm Eastern time

  • @HuRR1CaNeS324 Keep letting me know when they come on - I've got a season's pass to hardwood classics, etc. - but sometimes they sneak through and I miss 'em

  • Wow coach Nick, great review back in to the 90s. Please do some more vintage game reviews. More vintage match ups. This was great to watch! :D

  • @ButtZilla1031 Thanks! This was great fun to do - and I'll make sure to do some more.

  • vintage divac is amazing!

  • really good man...watching jordan move around on the floor he just makes it look so easy. nice to see some old vintage footage broken down

  • @pnewtonfarley No one was better, that's for sure.

  • @LyndsieFadden70984 50inch vertical is nothing but FUCKING SPAM and you're the BIGGEST SPAMMER on YouTube who opens THOUSANDS OF ACCOUNTS yes THOUSANDS!!! Anyone who reads this MARK 50inch vertical as SPAM because that's what it is NOTHING BUT SPAM

  • is it ac green

  • @Mr02211963 Nah - Larry Drew Sr.

  • Thank you so much... I enjoyed this breakdown, and I happened to requested a Jordan game and you delivered. Don't know if I influenced it. But I do appreciate it.

  • @sinles15 For sure - Thanks! I'll make sure to do another one soon!

  • Wow, nice video. Good footage showing that Jordan wasn't perfect, he really got picked on and abused defensively.

  • @ErickS104 Didn't remember it that way, and it may have been the only time in his career that he couldn't defend a player....

  • This was beautiful Coach Nick. I remember having a lot of these same thoughts. Jordan always got so much credit as a lock down defender, but it wasn't quite, completely true.

  • @ArmoredFelix It's most likely the first and only time Jordan had so much trouble - and it took the best PG of all time to do it to him.

  • MOARRRRRRR of this. This was incredible. The classic games!!!

  • wow !

  • I think the coach is the atlanta hawks coach

  • @Zangboy56 That is right! Larry Drew Sr.

  • BOO LAKERS GOO MAGIC!!!

  • Would love to see breakdown of the '86 Celtics. Keep up the great work!

  • @jovan43 Will get to them soon...

  • Great job

  • @MistaDarrenR Thanks! Stay tuned for more classicBreakdowns

  • great work

  • Wow it's great to see a breakdown of a classic game, you should do more of these, great job.

  • And I think that because the game was more intense and challenging, everybody, both players and fans, were drawn more into it. It was more than just a game, while today it's just a game. Plus we had legends and great players competing against each other, and they wanted to beat each other down. Today I think mentalities have changed in general, things and people are softer, more politically correct, more sensitive not to hurt the other...so players don't have the competitive nature anymore.

  • @WorldOfSnakes You couldn't have said it more eloquently. yes,Yes, and YES!

  • You should do one of the 90's rockets

  • @IamHaddy ACH! THe 90's Rockets set team offense back 50 years!!

  • Great stuff coach! I wonder how can you manage to record games and watch and analyze them, and then post them on different channels, all by yourself! Give us more of the previous era's basketball game please! It's surely a different game now, and before it used to be better in my opinion. The players were different (they were actually men, and had values and qualities that today players lack I think), and the rules were different, so it was more physical. Consequently it was more intense

  • wow i really enjoyed this breakdown. I was hopeing that you would do some "historic" breakdown, so this was like my fist christmas gift this year :D

One more thing that I want to say: You are one lucky dude, growing up in Chicago and watching Jordan live when he started to dominate the league AND being in the stands when he played against Magic O.O you hit the jackpot right there!

And of course we need more classic breakdowns, for God's sake keep em coming

    Greets from Germany

  • @Flashydwade Thanks! This was fun and I'll make sure to do another RetroBreakdown soon! I do realize how lucky I am to have grown up in CHicago at the Stadium - it's nowhere near as exciting now...

  • 86 celtics, 97 jazz, or 83 Sixers games next please

  • @halowafflebrains Would love any of those. Sometimes, the 83 Sixers come on, but if you see that ESPN Classic or some channel will have it on - give me a shout so I can record it.

    Thanks.

    Coach Nick

  • If you could breakdown how The C's let Jordan drop 63, that would make my day. Good job as always Coach.

  • @thisisfizzy I would love that - my dad and I had Sunday Season Tickets to the Cubs and we were in Wrigley Field when he went off, instead of home watching that game. But we did see one of the playoff games in Chicago...

Let me know if you see it coming on TV so I can record it.Thanks,

    Coach Nick

  • @bballbreakdown That's what's up. My first MJ game (my first NBA game) was his comeback against the Knicks when he rocked no.45 and dropped the double nickel. Changed my life. And so has NBA TV. I'll be looking for BOTH games Coach.

  • great post!

  • People have to give Phil Jackson more credit, because without Phil, Jordan would have tried to take over the series much like Lebron did with Cleveland and lose it. And Kobe and Jordan look exactly the same in the offense, I have seen the exact same spots in the triangle where Kobe and Jordan are almost carbon copies of each other but Kobe throws up the occasional unnecessary 3 pointer from 28 feet. But it just shows here why Phil is the greatest coach.

  • how about a breakdown from the 50's or 60's itd be hard to find a full game from then but if you think about it you could do a sweet breakdown comparing those times to now back then they werent as athletic due to the fact that they dident have the same food we do now and how back then it was more of a team based game..but yeah keep the retro games comin my man

  • Coach Nick, I love you in a non-homosexual way.

  • @Maximizer And I return the same kind of love!!!

  • Oh how I enjoy intensity and hustle on Defense. I'd love to see more breakdowns of these retro games, especially of the bad boys pistons. And lol @ "this guys style with that shirt and that hair" makes me wonder what hairstyle early 90's coach Nick had back then LOL.

  • Coach - that was unreal... seriously always amazing to see vintage basketball at its best, Jordan vs Magic is one of those match ups that's hard to beat (ultimately Im a Jordan & Kareem or Jordan & Malone man, but could easily be swayed!). Great work. Anyway, was the mystery man Byron Scott?

  • @damnumalone Thanks! And it was Larry Drew Sr. of the Atlanta Hawks stay tuned for more RetroBreakdowns soon!

  • Comment removed

  • It's Larry Drew he played with the Lakers back then, great breakdown more old school games.

  • @wpdougie2180 yup, and thanks!

  • Whats the deal with teams with incredible talent suffocating the team with bad inexperience coaches, who suck on offense. (*cough* Mike Brown *cough*)

In the end i have to ask is getting a coach like Mike Brown, Erik Sp, VDN, Dunleavy a justifiable risk by any GM on a playoff team.

They will likely make the playoffs and get torn to shreads by veteran coaches (pops or jackson) for the first few years. Meanwhile guys like Adelman are on teams that have little chance to challenge.

  • fantastic, you finally did classic games.. !!!

  • You should seriously get more old games!! Maybe some Celtics-Lakers games in the 80s

  • how about "vintagebreakdown?"

  • Great upload, I would definitely like to see more breakdowns of old games. This is one of my favorite series, game 1 was also very well played and came down to Pippen's halfcourt shot at the buzzer that almost went in. And, of course, Jordan dominated in game 2 going 15-18 from the field.

  • No offense to Lebron or Kobe!! But these games are the true BASKETBALL GAMES!!!

These players didnt want money or enterntainment, BUT ONE THING WIN!!

Nowdays, Lebro takes more than two hours just to announce his decision, or the fans bandwagon.... Now its just plain BS basketball!!!

I wish I could watch these games again!

  • Interesting video, thanks for the upload. I have this series on DVD, but haven't watched it in a while. And yeah, breakdowns of older games in general would be cool.

  • Looks like Larry Drew. The Hawks coach.

  • Is that Byron Scott?

  • Lovin the retro stuff, but when's the next heat breakdown? :-)

  • Sonics please? Kemp?

  • @KillenEMsoftly Don't think you want 96 Finals when Rodman drove him crazy, do you?

  • MORE RETRO PLEASE!!! 86 celtics games would be nice. I love you for this!!!

  • @ch53tm I've got the DVR set to record whatever comes in. I may still have Celtics from that era - let me check and I'll get back to you.

  • @ch53tm I've got the DVR set to record whatever comes in. I may still have Celtics from that era - let me check and I'll get back to you.

  • I love you for this... You read my mind. I was just about to ask if you could do a breakdown of a classic series.

  • @Carrol10 Glad I could read your mind. Didn't realize how much everyone would appreciate this. Perhaps there should be a RetroBBALLBreakdown, or PastBBALLBreakDown,

  • @bballbreakdown Yea, that would be great. I always wanted to see how the great teams of the past executed their offense and defense compared to what we see today. Which to be honest, is not nearly as good. We all also love your brute honesty.

  • @bballbreakdown CLASSICBBALLBreakdown

  • @bballbreakdown or, uh, a 'LookAtThisGuysHairBreakdown' :P

  • more retro please...it'll be cool if you spotlight players too

  • @KillenEMsoftly OK - will see what I can do. Sounds like I should launch a new channel - but what would the name be?

  • @bballbreakdown historybreakdown! :-P

thanks for all the videos coach Nick!

    Greetings from Greece

  • @bballbreakdown retrobreakdown? lol i can't think of anything that sounds good.

  • Comment removed

  • @bballbreakdown maybe RetroBallBreakdown? Who knows, but I wouldn't mind if you made a new channel or kept it on here.

  • The way I play it on 2k11. I have pippen guard MJ but the lakers have byron scott guarding the other MJ? Byron scott is like 2 feet tall in 2k11 so i tear him up in the post with jordan every time down.

Magic johnson created huge mismatches for any team. The guy was a giant. And Sam Perkins is an surprisingly good big man shooter. The lakers @ this time were very unconventional and extremely difficult to guard i imagine.

  • @tbdeawh They were. Their biggest deficiency was the bench - Terry Teagle was their most heralded player, with rookies Elden Campbell and Tony Smith - not a deep team at all.

  • I LOVE THIS!!! Please give us MORE!!!!

  • @ronald7821 Thanks! I aim to please, so stay tuned. This week should have plenty more before I go out of town with my team for a few days on Saturday...

  • Larry Drew?? i mean, he is on the roster.

  • @futureyankee1994 Yes, indeed - that is Larry Drew Sr.

  • I love this breakdown, coach.

At least you should do one retro game per week :) or maybe a retro bball channel.

    Regards from México.

Sorry for my bad english :(

  • @kakatanka ¿Que honda, guey?

¡Míl Grácias, señor! Su inglés es perfecto. Hecho Macho.

Me gusto much su idea de retro channel.

    Maestro Nick

  • lol vlade "Curl get fouled and then go hug magic"

  • @tbdeawh I remember loving it so much when they lost that game after that display of... whatever it was. LOL x 2

  • This looks just like 2k11 jordan challenge. From @ler0yjenkins

  • @ bballbreakdown yea Lakers probably win tha first meeting Heat tha second

  • Does your player watch your videos?

  • @AlekzLin111 Some of them - I really tried to get them all to watch the Lakers vs. Clippers offense breakdown so they can get a better sense of the triangle. We are still struggling with it, so maybe they should watch it again.

  • I'm not convinced that 90's bulls could've beaten 80's Lakers but this was the closest we'd ever see to that.

  • @jeremyDior I'm not sure they could either - although which Laker team are we talking? 1980? or 1988? At the end, I think Cartwright could've guarded Kareem... And Pippen on Worthy would've been great. But Magic most likely would've completely and utterly dominated on the offensive end. But so would Michael. And Bulls could've won the Horace Grant vs. A.C. Green match up...

  • i would definitely appreciate more flashback breakdowns. I would love some 2000-2002 Laker games

  • @mistermojo420 We'll see what I can get my hands on. I've got one from 1970 Knicks vs. Lakers I want to do. And Kareem with the Bucks vs. Phoenix - great stuff...

  • @bballbreakdown do Kareem with the BUcks:):):)

  • I can't wait for Lakers play tha Heat on Christmas

  • @unknownagentm88 Should be good, I think. But no Haslem and no Miller - might be anti-climactic, you know?

  • awesome

  • @adgamer Thanks! Don't forget to spread the bballbreakdown word to all your basketball loving friends. This is a good one.

  • These teams were so individually stacked WOW. When will your next breakdown be coach? Oh yeah and IF possible please try to breakdown more games a week. THANKS!

  • @AshGhiassi1 Had a busy 2 weeks with my team, but I should be able to get more done this week before we go out of town for a tournament on Saturday... At least one heat breakdown and one bballbreadown.
