Getting to meet Nathan Rogers, and actually JAM with him (as much as I could, being crap at guitar at that point) up at Travel Lodge was amazing.
This year would have been Stan's 60 birthday this year, so they had his wife come to the stage and sing a song and all the performers and the crowd joined together to sing Barret's Privateers. It was unforgettable.
Thanks for posting this. It bring back awesome memories for me!
Had to make a youtube profile, HAD TO....chills up and down the spine man....I sit here, a big burly blacksmith with tears shamelessly pouring down my face and a big goofy grin on my face, thank you so much Nathan for carrying on your father's tradition, I'm going to run not walk to your site to get a copy of your work.
and actually I don't know what it is about nathans voice when he sings his fathers songs, but it just makes me feel so much happy sadness, and I tear up every time!
Thank you so much for posting. Many years ago I worked on hospitality committee with Sandi. I live in BC now and am coming home in Dec for a few weeks. This was a nice push. Say hi to Blind John Davis.Could someone tell Sandi that "Charlie Brown" will be there soon! Yeee haw! Congrats to the Georgian Bay Folk Society!
I'm 18 years old, and have lived in on the shores of Nova Scotia all my life, I've also been a fan of Stan's work since I was young. I've got to tell you this a wonderful performance of The Mary Ellen Carter. Keep on going-
It doesn't matter how many years go by. Whenever I hear this song I'm brought to me knees. I've seen lots of good folks come and pass on, but there was something special about Stan. It almost feels like covering Stan songs, even in tribute, is somehow sacroligious.
On the other hand, to have him celebrated and remembered as the great Canadian singer/songwriter that he was is a wonderful thing.
I don't think I fully appreciate your comments. Perhaps you could clarify for me what you mean by sacrilege. Does this mean that somehow Stan was better than other people? He was just another flawed and misunderstood human being like the rest of us. Try to remember that elevating Stan above others would conflict with his philosophy. It also robs me of my father. Just food for thought.
your dad's music has been in my heart most of my life since i heard someone on a sidewalk sing white collar hollar... i can't thank you enough for your voice and what finding this video has meant for me.
Christ... he sounds so much like his Dad!

I used to be that person... now all I listen to is folk.
And a few shameful pop songs, but what do you want from me, people? They're catchy and thrown in our faces all day!
Ha ha!
Seriously, though. Look up Stan Rogers. He's a Canadian legend.

WOW!!!! The hairs on my arm are up.
I had the same feeling watching Nathan performing at the end of the Canmore Folk Festival in 2006.
