  • You need to fix the audio levels. The outro music was waaay louder than the dialogue.

  • Indeed, the "non Paris" part is "Province" (and the people from the "province" are "provinciaux" ie non-Paris people), which is not to be mistaken with the Provence, ie the southern part on the map which was rightly mentioned in the video. So, in short, province is not Provence, but apart from this minor mistake, the video, as always, was great!

  • Yes you probably mistook "province" for "provence" but it sounds like a good joke anyway, and you are so damn right about Parisians (as one myself)... thank you for your unique insight on our culture, it is so refreshing and far from old clichés !

  • @Elemy69 " Visit Lyon, it's a beautiful town" and she's not going to come... It is actually an amazing city ! And there you have actual food in actual restaurants ;)

  • Sorry, so not funny.......Maybe work on your editing, Madame.

  • @tizzylishe

Sorry, nobody cares...... Maybe fuck off, Mademoiselle.

  • Province : not Paris

provence : south east of France

  • Go and search "Cliché ! English version" on youtube and enjoy !

  • You wouldn't have had this problem living in Provence (or anywhere else in "not Paris"). As said below,

    1) only Parisian people use the word "province". It's such a way to forget all differences between very special &nothing alike towns & places.

    2) Not only they don't show respect, they pronounce it wrong.

But you're not the only American to make this mistake. It's very usual.

  • "Herbes de not-Paris" HAHAHA

  • @MiChmski Please note that only Parisians use the word province to refer to everything that is not Paris. We, "provinciaux" really hate this word as it shows how pedant can parisiens be.

There's some kind of war between parisians and provinciaux. Parisians tend to believe that all the people outside paris are farmers. We, on the contrary, say that Parisians think they are the center of the world, which is a true fact.

I loved your video BTW ! Visit Lyon, it's a beautiful town

  • i love you, enfin je t'aime quoi !

  • @magikkris +1 I've only seen 3 of your videos yet, and I think i have to stop... If not, i'll have to create a fan website dedicated to you!

Et en plus tu parles de mon pays de manière méliorative! Merci et surtout CONTINUES!

  • Took ProvEnce and ProvInce for the same word. This is quite funny. But they sound kind of similar to non natives, I assume. Forgivable mistake.

  • You need your own show... I would so totally watch you :)

  • herbes de not paris... genius

  • I bet she would cool with no clothes on

  • But you right. Putain elle a raison! con! Paris or not paris. If i attempt to buy metro ticket with my accent i cant. I live in south west of france is not provence. C'est la province d'accord. But is more scary than provence. C'est le PAYS BASQUE !!! putain... oh con le pays basque... C'est vrai ce que je crois qu'elle dit.

  • "Herbes de not Paris" :p . I'm french, I'm from Paris and it's right : the "not paris" concept !

  • The confusion is so cute in between Provence and la province. I love it keep going!!

  • just to say there is a difference between Provence (south of France) and province (not Paris).. Wikipédia was right ! =)

  • sooooo true for the born or and raised in Paris the rest of France is the "campagne"

  • Excellent!

  • Thank you for bringing enlightenment on French culture.

     "it's such a paradoxical culture" : Putain!

"Paris is almost a country itself, which is leading the country of France, but without leading it" : Putain!

"Paris is in France and France has many province and overseas territory but province without paris is not France" : Putain!

"parisians are so french and not french at the same time" : Putain!

"French are weird, Parisian weirder" : Putain!

    "I'm french but not Parisian ! :D" : Oh Putain !

  • I am a hardcore Parisian, and you're in province as soon as you've crossed the periph'. Yep.

  • I think I'm falling in love with this girl...

  • How did you prononce Herb de not paris ?

  • Don't be ashamed, Lot of french make this mistake too... some for all their lives ! :)

  • hahaha

  • Herbs de not Paris....!!! Love it!!!

  • Herbe de not Paris!!

    Hahahaha

  • Province-not France

    Provence-pretty southern region

Your parisian friends are just pronouncing "province" in a way that might be construed as "provence" but they know the difference, trust me.

  • @mizplacedcitygirl No on this one I have to admit it was my fault - I heard it wrong for 4 years and had to make this video to find it out :D

  • @MiChmski As a french, it took me something like 15 years to find it out, so 4 years as an american, it's a pretty good score I would say ! :p

  • OK with glossymind. "Province" is everything outside "Ile-de-France" (and not Paris). We call it like that because they were "provinces" before the Revolution, now call "Régions".

"Provence" is the name of one region (south-east). The name Provence come from the Romans when they start to colonize Gaul. The south was colonized a century before the north, so the "romana provincia" was at that time only the south-east.

  • Actually, everything outside Paris is called "province" (with a "i" and a lower-case "p") Provence (with a "e" and a capital "P") is a southern region as you said. They're quite different (The Provence is a province but not every provinces are Provence :p) Everybody in France makes the disctinction (thanks to their accents) but Parisians tend to pronounce both words the same (wich causes confusion) Thanks for your videos, you're always so enthusiastic and funny :p)

  • @glossymind it took me 4 years and making a video to figure that out ! :D

  • @MiChmski Don't worry it's funny anyway :)

  • @glossymind Parisians don't pronounce both words the same. but the two sounds are really difficult to learn for foreigners because theses sounds are very close and only in french. I have a german friend who find it very difficult to make the difference between "un" (like the number 1) and "en" (like in the sentence "in Provence")

In every language you have those tricky sounds (like the R in spanish, or the s in German, and so on)

  • @glossymind

Pardon mais je n'ai jamais entendu dire et/ou confondre province et Provence. Si vous pensez à l'accent d'Arletty, dit, accent parisien, et bien j'ai croisé très peu de personne ayant véritablement cette manière de parler le français. Province is province and Provence is Provence !

    ;o))
