could you please be so kind to change the video name? it is totally deceiveful, one would think to be going to look an Aikido kata, whilst it's a completely different one.
i'm not saying it is good or bad, but it is not Aikido, it's a copycat of Katori Shinto bokken kata
I'm sorry , I hate to criticize but I need to get this out of my chest. I feel this video is totally disrespectful to the works of O Sensei. Normally true followers of "the way" would demonstrate the superiority of the kata of their beloved "way" . This video did the reverse. Why study a kata that loses?
Sword is regarded as a superior weapon than the stick. Its easy to win with blade. The kentaijo exercise should show how skill win over superior weapon. Not the other way around . In so many ways, I don't feel this is right but I do respect their inovative spirit. I follow the the traditional path, but I respect that everyone choose their own way. Aikido is a personal journey anyway. Just my humble opinion . No offense intended.
Shouldn't the Uketachi (Defender with the jo) perform the finishing blow? Also I would suggest Uketachi use the jo staff's length as an advantage to control the ma-ai.
You mean "the ukejo"? I phink also. But anyway, this ken tai jo is absurd because if the uchitachi used a real katana, the ukejo would finish it with a toothpick. A jo never fights a katana like that!
It's not about power, it's about the technique behind the kata itself. You forget, Aikido isn't about being "competitive," or showing power and strength, it's all about becoming better IN the technique itself. Once the skill is mastered, power comes on its own.
what technique are you talking about??? again... this guys are awfull!!! please go and review the videos of Saito Sensei, then youl learn about power (remember the "KI" in aiKIdo), technique and discipline!!!
Not really that good. The guy with the jo isn't moving his hands on the jo to create power. He's just swinging it around. The right hand has to move up and down as you ring the jo. Weak. I bet the guy with the ken isn't ringing either.
Looks curiously similar to one of the Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto Ryu kata with the bo. Did Aikido's founder (I forget his name) learn it and incorporate it in or something (and decided to use a jo)?
Yes, we most certainly train in TSKSR! :)The founder (Morihei Ueshiba, Osensei) did not practice TSKSR to my knowledge. The style of weaponry in the video is not passed down through the Aikido lineage, but has evolved since, primarily through Tetsutaka Sugawara-sensei.
