Amazing.. was to her concert in Horsens and when she started singing this song it was like everybody was holding their breath... it was so amazing..had goose bumps all over...
Very Few singers have or ever will be in the same league as this wonderful lady, and if people cannot see her talent and loyality then they are ignorant to the rest of the worlds feelings
This is absolutely amazing. She is one of the great performers of our time, I agree. The purity and emotion of her singing on this song is astonishingly powerful.
there is not a more pure voice in this world. her ability to do this acapella (there is a little music here though) is breath-taking. she is one of the most important singers in American history.
Actually I liked Dolly's, very heart felt. Cook tried to copy Frankie Laine's version of Little Sparrow and of that Frankie Laine's was best. Little Sparrow is a reworking of the old spiritual/folk song Wayfaring Stranger (composer unknown) which was a mega-hit for Frankie Laine and even earlier for Burl Ives. If you can download Frankie Laine's version of Wayfaring Stranger or Sparrow and listen side by side to Cook's Sparrow your jaw would drop. Cook is a good researcher but not original.
Yeah, you're right. Good, not great. Was just messing with someone earlier on who had no knowledge or respect for the roots of pop music. It forced him to do a little research which is all I really wanted him to do. There is so much great music to listen to that has been created for decades. Some people get so crazy over these contestants you would think they have never heard a truly great singer that has years of stage experience behind them.
"The Wayfaring Stranger," AKA "Poor Wayfaring Stranger,", a well-known spiritual/folk song about a plaintive soul on life's journey. The journey the singer speaks of is the trials and tribulations of life. The final reward is reuniting with loved ones in Heaven in the afterlife. It was 1 of BURL IVES'S signature songs, included on his 1944 album The Wayfaring Stranger. Ives used it as the title of his early 1940s CBS radio show & his '48 autobio. He became known as "The Wayfaring Stranger."
The song is often classified as a "white spiritual.", 1st known printing of it is in Ananias Davisson's Kentucky Harmony, or, A Choice Collection of Psalm Tunes, Hymns, & Anthems, in Three Parts.
It's been covered by NO LESS than 31 OTHER artist from different genres. Little Sparrow, Dolly's interpretation of a female view of Life's joureny, is NOT a cover; therfore, Cook's arrangment can not be deemed a copy/cover of Frankie Laines' COVER, a man who was a hit-maker of late 40s/early 50s.
watching her sing this in man lat year was one of the most amazing experinces of my life, she is pure power in a fragile little shell, luminous and beautiful! an absolute legend
you wish there had been no applause for this. just her -- and that perfect instrument. An instrument that takes everything we go through in the human experience and wraps it in the kindest embrace anyone could ever imagine. She is one of our GREATEST national treasures!
Its so amazing when she does this and the audience is dead silent. When I saw her in Birmingham in 2005 you could have heard a pin drop in the arena with thousands of people in it.
I was at this concert as well, for free haha! Had to guide people to their places and stuff, and we were allowed to stay and watch this concert, it was amazing!
She does sound louder when she stands in front of the mic on the stage. I'm not sure why they would combine them for but I believe they were both on. She was definatly not faking it though, thats obvious
hey i was at her glasgow show and she was fucking amazing whoever bad mouthed her obviously doesnt know good music she sung this without music and she was fucking great
They say she's not using her neck muscles while singing, and when she talks the microphone suddenly has this big buzz which is gone when she starts singing.
Can't imagine that to be true, the buzzing sound was there only during the first half off the concert, 'cause a one of the microfones was positioned too close to a monitor. If it was lip-sync, she's damn good at it. Loved the show, hope she'll come to Holland again soon.
I was there in row 2 left corner of the stage. I didn't notice any sign of her playbacking.
She was wearing a mini mic on her cheek and sometimes grabbed a regular mic from a standard as you can see in this clip. It made no difference in the sound of her singing. In my opinion the regular mic was off. Why combine these two microphones?
I can't imagine that she was playbacking. On the other hand if someone could do it and get away with it it might be Dolly.
