  • This is very sad for me to watch, one of my favourite guitarists after all that bad stuff that happened, yet he still managed to say some words almost brought a tear to my eye. R.I.P Allen, Skynyrd won't be the same with out you, just like it wasn't without Ronnie.

  • Just remember that you too will be judged!!!! Be responsible for your own actions meaning this, girl was found in jail and then later decided to get drunk and go for a ride with a drunk. Bad idea don't ya think? Allen did pay for his actions!! I have grown up listening to his music and will until they lay me to rest. GOD bless you Allen and all of Lynyrd Skynyrd and as for lubaker please just don't listen to him anymore. You do not deserve too!!!!!

  • god gave him a second chance after the plane crash and he squandered it

and the only reason he did not go to jail was because of his injury - nobody ever talks about the girl that was killed(remember?).He was a great guitar player but brother you have to be judged by who you are not because you could play guitar

I love skynrd and grew up in south ga but this dude never had it together

  • I was fortunate enough to meet Allen in Mpls. in 1980. He was so nice. I also saw him in 1987 in Chicago after his accident. I felt for him not being able to play w/his fellow bandmates. He IS one of the greatest and these guys have gone thru so much ... long live Skynyrd and their families. Thanks.

  • After the car crash his life was ruined. His last years were pure hell, and the pneumonia was the only thing that could end his sickness and pain. So that's why we should be glad he's finally in peace instead of sheddin' tears for him. We all miss him and his jumps and his curly hair, but we just have to accept it. There will never be a guitar player like Allen, even though many people have tried that. No-one will ever replace him, and it's the best that way. There will never be another Allen :)

  • I think this was filmed in Nashville at the Municipal Auditorium when the band first united for the Tribute Tour.It brings tears to my eyes everytime I watch it and it seemed like not long afterward Allen gave up all hope of living since he was unable to join the rest of his brothers onstage and trade licks with Gary. You can see how close Gary and Allen were at the end of the video when Gary puts his arm around Allen. They were brothers by different mothers.RIP Allen, you are surely missed.

  • This guy was an addict. Nothing or no one could of saved him but himself-No plane crash, no car crashes, no deaths of his wife and of his girlfriend- But its very obvious to me as I watch this video & part 2 that I think he finally realizes that he fucked up&he wishes he had 1 more chance-without the booze & drugs-I think by him being in a wheelchair on stage in front of thousands & incapable of playing guitar is visibly painful-he now understands. His loss of playing guitar was that last nail.

  • Allen Collins-hands down one of the BEST guitarists EVER-I think it's very sad for how drugs & booze ran side by side with his God given talent- ultimately destroying himself. We all can sit here and say what a waste, he had it all, how sad, blah blah blah-But are any of us rock stars? We don't know what that life is like when u are around the money, the "friends", the dope day in & out, the temptations-it must be so easy to fall into that whole scene when u are famous & ppl are feeding it to u.

  • Drug & alcohol train wreck. Believe he died not long after this. Sad to see such talent waste away. Gone at 37.

  • you were great Allen rest in Pease

  • @Tomsouthrock pease?

  • Sounds like he's saying: "Ten years ago Ronnie van Zant wrote these lyrics and he meant it from the heart, I just want to know that I'd just need you to a listen". The end is hard to figure out though.

  • one of the top 5 guitarists of all time. dont pitty him. admire him and realize he'll live on forever in the music and inspriation he continues to give others.

  • Such a great spirit. The music lives on Brother.

  • Shit man... Life sucks...

  • What does he say? My English is not good, and I can't understand, could someone write what he say?

  • Something like: "??? Ten years ago Ronnie van Zant wrote these lyrics and he ??? my ? I want you to know that"... I don't know the rest.

  • I saw Allen on stage during the '88 Tribute Tour. It was sad seeing a shell of his former self. He went through hell after the crash. His wife Kathy's passing because of a complicated pregnancy is what broke the straw. It's a shame such a great talent/person went through such a hell.

  • I broke my neck in '83 and became a C-5 incomplete quadriplegic and now I have to use a hot sauce bottle to play slide guitar because I can't move my fingers anymore. I wish Allen had lived long enough to learn to play that way. He would've still been great...waaay better than I am, that's for sure because he was such a phenomenal guitar player to begin with. I was good but not even in the same universe as he was. He could've still been rockin' with Skynyrd. RIP

  • God Bless You man.

  • Thank you, Zboots!! God ''already has'' blessed me, because I'm still alive to tell the story and play my guitar! :-)

    Peace

  • sorry to hear that man.

  • Thank you, loombaron!! I truly appreciate your comment!!

  • Allen Collins founded Roll For Rock Wheelchair Events and Benefit Concerts before he passed away. His dream was to use music to raise awareness about physical challenges. Please visit online for more information or to volunteer.

  • Well whatever the cause of allen collins demise......I fucking love Skynryd and Skynyrd isnt a band without the greatest guitarist of all time Mr. Allen Collins. Rest in Peace Allen

  • depressing

  • Fucking heart breaking, Allen ,you ARE a legend.

  • Beautiful isn't it? Rossington and Collins ... look at that sign of brotherly love!

  • L S is a family ,a great family.Allen is now a legend... RIP

  • Truckinjon, I agree. It is real sad that such a great guitarist ended up not being able to play. He wrote and played probably the most recognized guitar solo (and the longest) of all time for Freebird. Hendrix did some good ones, but they didn't make you jump up and down and yell. The plane didn't kill, he did, that's what pisses me off for some reason.

  • a legend

  • Poor allen collins, such a great guitarist...
