i would'nt say they sacked him,the smiths were a four piece band and only used him as a session musician, they just stopped using him.

@Vpmatt By the time the queen is dead come out a lot of the music Marr was making was so complex that a second guitarist was needed on stage,in the studio Marr could play as many parts as he wanted but not on stage.
