They may not be the best fighting forces in the world due to deficiencies or obsolete equipment and inventory, but they are the world's best military in terms of discipline, whether during training, at the combat grounds, or even when off-duty. You can easily distinguish them from the Chinese police or other security forces. They are the most disciplined fighting forces in the world.

I think its unlikely that US will be attacked. The Chinese military policy is just to defend their homesoil. Their actions at the South China Sea (Spratly Islands) are just because they are one of the claimant to the Spratly Islands, and that can be traced by history. I think in objective view, it is Vietnam People Army never lost the war, the defeated the French in Dien Bien Phu, they defeated the American supported South Vietnam, and the Chinese tried to "punish" them because they invaded Cambodia and toppled the Chinese backed Khmer Rouge, however until the next ten years the VPA was still in Cambodia. So the VPA got their objective, the PLA did not. Period. No nationalistic bias. I am not Vietnamese BTW.

They repelled the UN invasion only because the US refused MacArthur the option to nuke China. The war ended in a cease fire, and virtually no political gains for either China or the North, and considering that war is merely an extension of politics, I wouldn't class the events of the Korean War a victory for the PLA unless the UN forces had been kicked off the Peninsula.

Part of what you say is true, the other part is omitted. The losses China suffered were indeed very tiny to the price we could have made you pay. It was a political decision not to introduce nuclear weapons to that conflict, which would have completely changed the course of history. And probably closed the book on Korea.

I think in objective view, it is Vietnam People Army never lost the war, the defeated the French in Dien Bien Phu, they defeated the American supported South Vietnam, and the Chinese tried to "punish" them because they invaded Cambodia and toppled the Chinese backed Khmer Rouge, however until the next ten years the VPA was still in Cambodia. So the VPA got their objective, the PLA did not. Period. No nationalistic bias. I am not Vietnamese BTW.

@1JesseW Not necessarily, America has two things going for it that no other nation in the world could match it with. That is it's Air Force and it's Navy. Both of which protect it from any foreign invasion, or even air bombings. The U.S. Navy is as larger (in tonnage) as Russia, England, China, and Germany's navies put together. If they fire nukes, well we fire back and nobody wins. So, in the long run. It would be extremely hard, if not impossible for China to attack our home soil.

@fastkillmmm My frist point still stands, China entered the Korean war and failed to assist the North in re-uniting the South. They repelled the UN invasion only because the US refused MacArthur the option to nuke China. The war ended in a cease fire, and virtually no political gains for either China or the North, and considering that war is merely an extension of politics, I wouldn't class the events of the Korean War a victory for the PLA unless the UN forces had been kicked off the Peninsula.

The Chinese used WW2 bolt action rifles and rush tactics, all to achieve nothing.

UN troops went deep inside N Korea but after Chinese PVA troops came, we forced you out of N Korea. US was a superpower just defeated 2 powerful enemies Germany and Japan, its power was at its peak but couldn't win, China had very small airforce and no navy and used old rifles but we defeated US and its followers.

It was a political decision not to introduce nuclear weapons to that conflict, which would have completely changed the course of history. And probably closed the book on Korea.

PVA did the same in WW2 against KMT and the Nips. @AmgCJoop That was Mujahadin defeated Soviet Union not Taliban, you have to understand this way, Mujahadin had the US's support behind but today Taliban has no supports from any great power but still can kick US's ass, imagine if they get the supports....... like what happened in Vietnam, US got totally defeated by Vietcongs which got the supports from China, the truth was US got defeated by China in Vietnam.
