  • the 87-91 theme is the best version in my opinion

  • From 2:00 to 2:10, the best segment.

  • scott pelley should run for president .

  • I love the American news! So dramatic and unashamedly American. How does the news work in The US? Where I'm from here in Ireland with a population of six million and only one timezone, the national news simply goes out at 1pm, 6pm and 9pm. But with over 300million people and four timezones, how does it work? I find it interesting :)

  • snott pelley reminds me of Mr. Humphries. Only Mr. Humphries was cool. snott pelley just sucks!

  • "More gullible fucking idiots get their news from CBS than from any other source".

Rather, Couric, Pelley....it doesn't matter who tells the news for this pathetic network. As long as CBS spouts the same liberal leaning propoganda, in the same biased manner, the'll forever be owned night...after night....after night... by FOX News where ratings and viewership are concerned. Honorable big network journalism died with Edward Murrow and Walter Kronkite years ago.

  • He jumped out of plane and who saved who?

  • @TheInternetisMagic and that trust was betrayed when Dan Rather lied about document and had no evidence ruining the credibility of CBS News. They're still paying for that half a decade later. Rather screwed them over. Royally.

  • Love music 2:00 - 2:10! But I must say that I liked Katie more...

  • It took longer for the 1987 theme to Come Back, but Thank God It's Back!

  • Scott Pelley is the best CBS Evening News anchor in quite a long time! He's very, very refreshing. This broadcast's ratings have nowhere to go but up.

  • I love how they managed to sync up the 25-year-old music and 2(?)-year-old graphics, with no apparent changes to either...

  • CBS NEWS IS FUCKING JOKE...THEY ALL SUCK BILDERBERGER DICKS...

911 WAS AN ISIDE JOB, NO PLANE CRASHED IN PA...ITS ALL A FUCKING LIE !

  • i love the CBS Evening News with scott pelley it's like the old fasion style news cast call me old fasion/modern guy but i perfer The CBS Evening News with scott pelley besides my computer has the old fasion windows style on here Lol

  • It is about MORE the just the news. The CBS Evening News is that household name America trusts. It rings in the evening all across the country and allows millions to feel the warmth of classic journalism. It is truly a lasting symbol of journalism in America.

  • The CBS Radio Network carries this newscast every weekday, and it runs to like 7 or 8 minutes at the bottom of the hour on both CBS Radio and CBS Television.

  • awwww I liked the katie couric music :(

  • i love the old classic music theme from dan rather days.

  • fantastic. nice to see the news in order and level of importance. The news has turned into nothing but a sideshow.

  • CBS has learned from their mistakes. I am glad they are back to using their classic theme music. I am also glad to see the return of a hard-core newscast. They had made it too much like a morning talk show during Katie Couric's tenure. NBC has consistantly stuck with a hard-hitting newscast with Nightly News and it has the ratings to show it.

  • While I still would have preferred Harry Smith .. I go give a thumbs up to using the late 80s music -- hope they use the bumper with the light horns ...

  • It's better!!!

  • I have all the variations of this theme, visit my channel

  • Scott Pelley <3

  • Trivers Myers wrote this theme which was actually the first time CBS News used music to introduce their Evening News. There are many variations of the music that can be used from section to section, depending on the type of story they have. Good to see James Horner music and Katie Couric gone. Will start watching CBS again. Pelley an excellent choice

  • If they're going to use an old theme... why this one? 1991 for me, too...

  • Love the new/old music, rerecorded obviously. This might actually be competition for Brian Williams and NBC, at least they could beat out Diane Sawyer. Great job on the mini re-vamp.

  • I would've liked it if they used the 1991 theme. But, the 1987 theme sounds good.

  • @wiiplayer9revisited I think going back to the 1991-2006 theme would have been a better move than the 1987 theme

  • Actually, it's the pre 1991 version of the CBS News theme.

  • same here, I might actually start watching CBS news again. : )

  • And so begins the Scott Pelley Era. I might actually start watching CBS News again.

  • No mentions of cbsnewsdotcom anywhere except copyright. Not even the bug.

  • I love how they combined what sound to me, like bits of Rather's and Couric's themes in this newscast!

But more importantly, props to Scott for starting the newscast off with what really matters to us rather than the sex scandall of Congressman Weaner. As long as he keeps going the way he is, I'll continue watching!

  • @DorvellTStewart It's actually not a mix of the Rather and Couric theme - it's actually the very first variant of the Rather theme, used all the way back in 1987.

  • @HulkieG Sometimes you have to go back to the basics...but the 1987 theme continues to be my favorite. Makes me feel like a kid again

  • @HulkieG Composed by John Trivers and Liz Myers.

  • The vision of the "CBS Evening News" as "the national newscast of record" is back! I approve of the reversion to the 1987-91 music (the first to be used on the broadcast since Richard Salant's policy that no music should be used). I suggest that they use some of the bumper music from that era. Producers also should consider reviving the late '80s practice of having bumpers begin or end with artistic renderings of some images. (It's not the Katie, Brian or Diane "Show," but a real newscast!)

  • One other thing, they've returned their 1991 cbs evening news theme that was first used in the days of Dan Rather.

  • @MrGamespecialist You mean the 1987 theme, eh?

  • @neworleansTVclips Me too...I was just thinking awhile back how I missed this theme and was really surprised when I heard it last night watching. I liked Scott Pelley and think he will do well on the broadcast. Katie Couric never seemed suited for it.

  • Fascinating. I thought CBS would keep the James Horner-composed 'Evening News' theme music that was introduced a half-decade ago, but CBS reverted its theme music to the one that was last heard about two decades ago, which is so nice to hear once again. I love that old theme and the Horner one as well. Thank you very much indeed for posting!

  • They reverted back to and updated the old theme music that was for Dan Rather and Bob Scheiffer's newscasts. I wonder if they will utilize the celebrity voice over like Brian Williams and Diane Sawyer have?

  • @sdh74 No more Morgan Freeman or celebrity voiceover. The new v/o is the guy who does the promos for 60 Minutes. Which, given that they want to associate the newscast with 60 Minutes....

  • Does that mean Andy Rooney will make appearances to rant? Lord knows he'll try to convince Scott to allow him to do so.

  • No more Morgan Freeman intro voiceover, but is that Bob Schiefer doing the voiceover for Scott Pelley's CBS Evening News?

  • @heine71 It's the same voiceover of 60 Minutes. Great move I think, was never a fan of the Morgan Freeman voice over.

  • It looks good and he is good. But, it lacks personnality. It is just plain. The graphics are pretty good, but there is nothing that make them exceptional. The tracks used for the music are kind of boring, even if the package in general is magnificent.

  • Also, yes, I know the sync goes a little wacky at the end. Need to find a way to fix that.
