I was "afraid" of rock'n'roll when I was a child in the 80's and 90's, because the 80's rock sounded so rough and violent to me. Of course it didn't help that I couldn't understand English back then. It is so funny that rock'n'roll was like this when it was young. So soft and gentle.
In the 50's in the south that song was played all the time and I always loved listening, still love it. What a great group of professionals , their legacy is all around us
Buck Ram who was The Platters manager and composer of their hits (Including this one I believe) first worked with the great big bands including Bobby Hackett's Orchestra and others in the NYC area. He also worked with The Ink Spots. His idea for the Platters was to have them be "The new Ink Spots", which they certainly did become! Thanks for sharing Mr. Charlie!
Charlie
Music for the ages! Immortal song, brilliant group in perfect harmony! I wasn't born when this song charted (and I'm 52!) so it was a very long time ago but I'll take this kind of music over todays crap-rap any day!
@hancar I have the original on a 45 rpm and on a 33 rpm album. Loved the Platters then and still love them. It is so wonderful that technology allowed this all to be recorded for the ages.
In 1967 I was deploying to Vietnam. The night before, my girlfriend and I listened to this song. When I arrived in country it was still playing in my ear. 2 months later I was captured and spend several months in inhumane conditions. To keep my mind right, I choose to replay their songs in my head. That girlfriend is not with me today but the music these folks produced is and always will be. Thank you, you saved my life.
@militaryacademyguy That is an excellent story and whilst I certainly can't relate to your ordeal I know that there are so many of these songs that have a real magic about them don't they ??

So classy, this is what was popular when music actually took talent to make it to the masses (recording up until recent times has been extremely expensive), im 32 and sorry to see the general direction of our modern music. Bring back the goodies!
People if you are so sick of "today" then help change it! Help bring this amazing culture back to this once great country! Help bring back the 50's 60's 70's hell 80's too! Help bring this back!
@franckyjo01 Merci pour votre commentaire. Ils ne sont voicesd merveilleuse et je suis heureux de voir qu'ils sont appréciés partout. Joyeux Noël et Bonne Année. Charlie
