If you want homes to be affordable why not let the over inflated property market fall further rather than punish prudent taxpayers, the young, and the yet to be born, by using our money to prop up those who have already made a killing - the banks and property speculators.
PS. If you don't print this I will do my own video explaining why you are so terrified of common sense solutions.
If we keep importing poverty from abroad and paying for the chavs to sit on their bums then we will just have to keep building cheap rubbish for these people to live in. Planning will be taken into New Labours hands so they can build their vote into England and stay in power. ID the lazy and reduce the number of people coming to the UK, more than enough to go around then in the private sector without meddling for Yvetter and friends!
I don't understand your argument, Yevette. If there was a physical shortage of residential property then surely that would be reflected in rents? Rents have not kept pace with house price inflation. Also, there has been massive house price inflation in countries with no land shortage and relaxed planning laws, the USA, NZ, EU, AUS etc etc. Property has been the latest investment vehicle globally. The reasons are monetary nothing to do with physical constraints.
I understand that not everyone can have a house in britain, but i think that the government could regulate the construction industry to encourage them to build alot more affordable homes.
I think there is a massive hidden mass of people who need a house but they wont ever be seen in the mainstream media because the corporatists in the construction industry dont like affordable housing.
Please be truthful & honest. When you are talking about 3 million houses being built 'across the country', please be clear you are only talking about building them in England (housing is a devolved issue). And when they have been built, what happens then? Great, let's build more! But what happens when we have no more countryside left - where should we build them then?
England is already the most densely populated country in Europe, just how big a population does New Labour think we need?
3 million homes across 'the country'? That'll be England only then. But obviously, Ms Cooper & co will try to give the impression that it is across the UK - it ain't. And what happens when we've built those - will we have to build another 3 - 4 mill? And when we've built on every piece of English countryside, what then?
Advice for commenting on this video. Do not describe the monetary explanation for house price inflation, it won't be published. They are only interested in Orwellian style propaganda for the dumbed-down state indoctrinated masses. They are aware 98% of us are too uneducated to know better, and they constantly take advantage of this fact.
I think giving £28,000 gifts to Public Sector workers by Lancashire County Council was a great idea it helped keep house prices well above any level I could ever afford - why should I have a house!
Of course they are going to censor the comments, they more than often don't want you to voice your opion of them, and of the mess they have made of this once great country.
You bunch of uneducated Daily Express reading muppets. The actual % of total land mass currently occupied by housing is tiny. Creating 3 million more home will not devastate the green belt, or "concrete over the countryside" as you NIMBY muppets believe.
2020 is a level of the Common Purpose program aimed at key leaders in society. Google it. What is affordable housing? Surely all property prices are governed by the current market aren't they.
So as our population is set to double in size this century we have to lose our green belts and countryside,we also should expect more cars and more pollution.
trying to reduce our carbon levels is pointless because the population is rapidly increasing.
the government is encouraging population increase with child benefits and obvious immigration, they think it is necessary in order to pay for the growing number of elderley. but you can`t carry on that way. short term gain, long term trouble

Good idea, lets knock down a few more derelict hospitals and Asylums (a part of british history) and make a few more "affordable" homes.

90% of the people used to live on 10% of the land - when are you going to open up the other 90% of living space or cap immigration?

3 million new homes...brilliant! only problem,it won't be the British that gets to live in them, will it?

If you want an ounce of credibility , don't censor comments. The people are waking up, getting educated. Your days in power are numbered.

We need cheaper homes. Shared ownership promotes house price inflation.
And NIMBY crowd need to be ignored. I like a nice forest, but a roof over my head takes priority.

Shared ownership to prop up the broken housing ladder.
Why not deflate the housing bubble 40-50% instead, and correct the imbalances.

Why are you building over our land with loads of houses, isn't it families which need reforms rather than housing?

Shared Ownership is a con, it just a way the government together with speculators can over inflate the property market.
Higher cost properties means more stamp duty, inheritance tax and CGT.

Interesting stuff, I heard the friends of the earth in the UK were going to buy the green belt to prevent this home building from happening!
