Musicians are typically insecure as it is, they criticize themselves way more than anyone else ever will.. so imagine having to stand up in front of a group of your peers.. it's tough. But it gets better and easier with experience. Give her a break. This could be a conducting class final or something.. we don't know. She could do more with expressing and making more eye contact, but it was far from bad. We typically perform at 85% of our capability..which is a given. Keep up the good work.
Not bad, but you didn't make the pauses stand out, especially in the beginning. Become familiar enough with the score that you can look up from it more and cue when needed. Make the dramatic and expressive parts stand out.
congratulations on your conducting! My understanding is: If what is coming (flowing in this case) out of a band is really great, the conductor must be doing it correctly. When someone flaws your conducting, they are really attacking what they hear rather than what they (he ) sees.
wow. this sounds SO much better than we are, and the sound system at my school sucks, so the crescendos sound like explosions. its the little stuff that make, like the balance, you can hear the french horns, the trombones arent blasting, THIS version gives me the chills like this piece should
Honestly, on the level they're playing at, anything that the conductor dose other than keep time is formal. Some people are offended if they do anything other, like que you in. lol
This is the only recording on YouTube that does this song justice.. all the others are terrible... I only wish the conductor had more emotion.. i bet this group would be amazing with more emotion...
I'm sorry for negativity, but these are constructive criticisms... This is one of the pieces in American literature that just shouldn't be conducted by the beat; it should be conducted "HOW to play" rather than "WHEN to play". Marching bands are conducted by the beat...
@NejiSupreme I have seen women who scored an A in conducting class, who conduct so stiffly, the performers have no chance to be musical, u know, like a masculine jerk.
Based on the comments I am reading, well, maybe I should conduct the piece myself on Youtube before I can criticize her conducting as you are.
I love this song! And finally a GOOD recording that actually dose it justice! 4:34 was amazing! So intense. And it wasn't so top heavy. Buetiful! Perfiect in fact!

my director actually understands that, he's a great director, now if only the band would shut up when he stops...

The Wind Ensemble performs with just as much intensity and emotion as the conductor conducts it with.

It appears to be a TCU rehearsal hall.
