How fast is it? That depends mainly on the skill of the rider.
There are 2 starting points: Top and Junction.
The current record from Top is 50.09 secs, which means an average speed of over 53 mph and reaching close to 80 mph towards the end.
Junction is about one-third way down the Run. The current record is 41.02 secs.
Beginners start from Junction. Complete beginners normally take 65-75 secs, gradually reducing with practice. Most beginners reach 40-50 mph towards the finish.
"From what I've seen, the trickiest turn to me was obviously Shuttlecock."
Spot on!
It's designed to be unforgiving so that, unless you are in sufficient control to steer around, you will be thrown out of the track. A sort of 'safety valve' before you get to the faster stages.
I've seen lots of videos posted for the Cresta Run. It's the first one seen where you actually see a smooth fast run. From what I've seen, the trickiest turn to me was obviously "Shuttlecock". It looks much lower and flatter than the other turns. I haven't seen tobogganing footage since I was a kid. T.F.P.
