  • the best song ever

  • His songs make me dream...

  • Beautiful Americana music (not country)! I love this version... he does more with his voice

  • i think one tree hill made this song reallllyyy popular

  • Okay, I know Ryan doesn't like to be chained to the "alt-country" genre and/or label, but it's stuff like this shows that even though he doesn't really consider himself an alt-country musician anymore, the feel is still there. You can take a boy out of the Carolinas, but you can't take the Carolinas out of the boy!

Enjoy your sabbatical, Mr. Adams. You deserve it.

  • He is a strange mix between british and american indie music and country music.

An alt-country musician would never do Love is Hell

  • @CEIVE4EVER Good point. I should say, however, that I realize from the get-go that Ryan will never be chained to the "alt-country" genre because he wants to follow his own muse. Consequently, you have wonderful albums such as Love Is Hell. My point was that even though he may dabble in other genres, a song such as this shows that his musical roots/foundation will always be based somewhat in the country/alt-country world.

  • Wow this version is way better than his album version!

  • This version is juuuuuuuuust incredible! x

  • I am in love with this song! xxxx

  • this is my favorite..

    humm

  • Genious. Pure. :)

  • great video thanks for sharing.God bless.

  • this is one of the top 10 songs EVER

  • who cares ryan adams wrote the frikin song...

  • Comment removed

  • hes a god

  • I Got A Pool Made Of Unicorn Bones Because That F*ckin' Song

    See Emotional Damage Does Pay!

    I Just Love That Guy!

    He's Just A Genious

  • maybe because it's more commercial and that's why you guys prefer Bono and that woman that was in a band long ago but has done nothing for years version better??? I prefer real performers with grit myself. But each to their own

  • You're probably right but I do/did like the coors from their beginning and admit a long time crush on andrea. Both versions are good

  • i agree! but i love this version too

  • I agree with you guys. Why compare? But I still prefer Bono and Andrea! rsrsrsrsrsrsr! What can I do?

  • Why compare? Enjoy!

  • It pisses me off when some ignorant dumbass starts saying that one singer/band is better than another. No one is performing or wrote the song for you. They are just doing what they love and were meant to do and neither they nor I give a crap who you think is better. I didn't search for their version. I searched for this one, by the originator.

  • Bono and Andrea ( The Corrs) are much better!

  • @laurinha76 Fuck your life, dumb shit

  • Corrs and Bono! Watch and learn!

This guy just KICKS ASS!! awesome.

  • The Corrs cannot reach Ryan's talent.

  • Ryan Adams was the writer.

  • yeah man! the corrs' version is realy good one!

    love this family

  • i love this song im guessing he wrote and he want stoned whilst recording this .

  • Ryan wrote this song!! Tims a douche

  • The theme of my junior prom was "When the Stars Go Blue." They played dbag Tim McGraw's version. I was pissed. If ever there was an "epic fail," that would most certainly be it.

  • People that must not be named *Cough* The Corrs *Cough* Tim McGraw *Cough cough* shouldn't be even be compared Ryan's version...... This very well may be one of my all time favourite songs

  • stoned or not, he played the son amazingly x

  • I think this is the best version of this...honestly, i think the album version from Gold is horribly mixed. i love the alternate ending and a performance of this quality is very rare.

  • I like the version from One Tree Hill better... But not bad!

  • one tree hill is friggen awesoem and so is that version !!!! this is really good too !!

  • tylers from oth was quite good considering the original is so beautiful

  • He is really really high here.

  • Is he meant to be the personification of depression or something? He could be alot worse on drugs than making a couple jokes in between songs. Watch Nick Cave back in the days with the birthday party now THATS bad drugs chat

  • why is it a shame?

  • So if someone was in a good mood because the advil they took made their headache feel better, would you have a problem with them because they are on drugs? alot of times people use drugs becuase they have some kind of pain they are dealing with. Not to promote drug use, but he has faced his deamons we do all have deamons you know

  • Comment removed

  • No, thats just his normal silliness and stage fright. He's admitted to playing shows high before and he said it was stupid and he was young. I know what you mean, he does seem like hes always high, but I don't think he is for this.

  • You have a fair argument but shut the hell up on this video page because Ryan is really fantastic! Great voice accompanied by tight electric guitar playing. He also makes the audience feel apart of the performance by introducing humour...sounds like the perfect front man to me by the looks of THIS performance :) No offence

  • Okay sorry about that...I didnt see the end of the video at that point...the talk at the end was truly bad. My apologies Mr and Mrs

  • Hit it, Jimmy!

  • great !!

  • that's right!

  • whaat? This performance is excellent, the effort he puts into his songs shouldn't take away from his eccentric personality

  • and so do you, honey.

    less depth.

  • Ryan Adams is actually really, really funny in person...I don't understand why that makes his music have less depth. Does he have to be serious ALL the time for you to consider him a worthy singer/songwriter?

  • I personally find it hilarious that people have argued here about Ryan Adams and Bryan Adams simply because they're names are similar xD

  • lets all chill out!

  • Let's face it...how could anyone do this better than the artist who composed this song?

  • Ryan Adams wrote the damned song. How you people say Tim McGraw's version is better? That's like saying Lief Garrett sang the Beach Boys songs better than the Beach Boys.

  • Lief Garrett does everything better than everybody.

  • Hilliarious Preston!

  • wash your mouth out! NO WAY! byan adams is a little crappy songwriter, ryan adams is a rock n roll genius and legend.

  • this version good, but thats what it is another version. enjoy

  • awesome song. i like it alot better than tim mcgraws version. ryan puts more feeling into it.

  • this is the best version of the best song no disrespect tim

  • @lilfriedrich I guess you're the type with two teeth and an "I Love Beer And Nascar" bumper sticker on your rusted out '86 piece-of-shit Ranger, huh? Yeah, I know your type. My shitty hometown is full of people like you. Your sister probably had your kid too.

Jesus Christ, go learn what real music is.

  • obviously you don't know shit and you must be talking about your self and since when do i have a rusty 86 ranger i've got a 2007 BMW M6 and im pretty sure it looks nothing like a ford ranger so go fuck yourself

  • You have yet to deny that your sister had your baby =)

  • Damn, its confusing. This this Ryan Adams?

I didn't know he was from Pasadena? Plus, the coconuts? Well, its because he sounds and looks like Ryan Adams. Thx.

  • Yeah It's Ryan. He likes to joke around on stage. He always puts on a good show.

  • best performed by ryan. he says off the wall crazy things and then turns it off instantly to sing this beautiful song, and then turns it right back on.

  • i really like this song. i lovee the cover that tyler hilton and bethany joy galeotti did for OTH season 2.

  • tim mcgraw is a gay wanna-be-cowboy with absolutely NO talent!

  • i like to start a new day wiht this song,,,,

  • This is a beautiful song. I think those that are bashing Tim McGraw (btw, I like the original better) should ease up a bit. Often when a talented, but not well-known artist has their song covered by someone famous, the benefits trickle down. This is the case with my liking of Tim McGraw's version leading me to discover Ryan Adams. I'm not about to go buy any of McGraw's albums, but just purchased a few of Adam's and Whiskeytown's records.

  • '... I got a pool made of unicorn bones because that f*ckin' song.'

LMAO! That's an interesting way of putting it XD

  • 4:56

  • God I love this song. Ryan Adams amazes me on every level.

  • : ) I love this video. I watch it all the time and it never gets less amazing.

  • This is the only version I can stand to listen to.

  • Hahaha what? Tim McGraw butchered this song. Ryan Adams' version is complete genius.

  • I like this version the most 'cause bij general the original is always better than a cover.

Ryan can realy put the feel in to this.

    Tim's version isn't bad either

  • Actually, you are a deluded fool.

  • I like both versions! Ryan is a talented songwriter which is obvious by the fact that Tim McGraw covered it. There is nothing wrong with either version.

  • are you fuckin serious.....tim McGraw murders that song....and everysong for that matter.....ryan adams is 10 times the musician tim McGraw will ever be....and he writes his own songs!

  • There is no hope for you. Some people have soul, some people live life with the their heart and mind closed. You choose some plastic, corporate f**ks over Ryan Adams. A man who will go down in history as one the greatest song writers ever, up there with Dylan, Young et al.... what!

  • he's a way better singer than Dylan, and just as good if not better than Young, but with lyrics... you can't compair lol

  • To each their own. But Dylan and Young are better to me.

  • then you are the farthest thing from an intelligent being seeing as i think he deserves that credit and more.

  • Brilliant! Attack me because my opinion is different than yours. It's like I said, to each their own, I like what I like and you like what you like.

  • ur kidding right? the song is his

  • I know he wrote the song and sang the original version. I just like the covers more.

  • listen to P.L.V. HAVOC guys!

  • an awesome version! :D

  • This is the best version by FAR!!

  • Where did you get the drum tabs from, I have been looking everywhere and no websites have them.

    Awesome btw :) xx

  • there aren't any drum tabs bc this is the easiest song to play on the drums ever!!!!

  • ya even in guitar very easy!

  • AMAZING....

  • i only knew about the covers when i heard my sis playing the corrs cover

i was lik, ''thats a fuckin R.A song!'' it made me so fuckin angry it nearly made me sick........ every other cover seems like a bad audition off the x-factor compared to the original

  • i didn't like corrs and bono cover at all and the kurt nilsen cover changed the feel of the song and took away the emotion...the mcgraw cover was pretty good but this one is the best

  • Wrong. Tim McGraw doesn't have the talent or ability that Ryan Adams has in a pinky. And, as is the case most of the time, McGraw didn't do the original any sort of justice, no matter what the mainstream radio/media etc. tell you.

  • tim mcgraw sucks...explains why he couldnt write his own hit..ha go RYAN get that pool full of unicorn bones

  • tim mcgraw's verision isn't horrible, BUT Ryans is much better because he wrote the lyrics and has an emotion tie to the song because it is HIS song. Thats why his is better.

  • The original is usually the best, absolutely love the Bono/corrs version but this is better

  • Comment removed

  • This an original Ryan Adams song.. weird how others do a great cover and suddenly are being credited..

  • this is so much better than bono and the corrs' soulless attempt at live 8.

  • he invented the song its his song

  • Live IN Dublin is the best cover the Corrs & Bono did

i agree about ur say on live8

  • Lost in time, Ryan beats them all, love it

  • I checked out the Corrs/Bono live version from Live 8 and it just doesn't compare. It's like they were focused on the novelty of being on stage together they forgot to perform the song. Ryan Adams owns this song.

  • listen to Live In Dublin by them, they did terrible for Live8 i agree but live in dublin is the sex

  • I don't see how people can say Tim McGraw or any other version is better..! :o

  • Tim McGraw butchered this song...

  • I just listened to three versions of this song. Loved them all, but hands down, this one is the best! The original of course.

  • love love love this song!!!!!

  • yeah the lyrics are so beautiful

    love it

  • The first time I heard Tim's verson, I really liked it. But hearing the writer of these beautiful lyrics sing it, oh my gosh, I absolutely LOVE it!!!!!! <3

  • Comment removed

  • Bono and Corrs version is great...Tim M's version is also pretty good...Have to give Ryan's original version the edge...the kid writes like very few can...

  • Try and search Kurt Nilsen... He has a great voice - but agree on that ryan is the god in this number :-)

  • amazong words

  • no god damn way its better wat makes it better is because he wrote those amazing lyrics

  • Wonderful song...but I prefer the female bass player...

  • i love this song...all versions of it: bono, tmg, & ba. it just rocks!

  • How is it possible people can think Tim McGraw's version is better? Everything DRA does is better than McGraw: writing music, player music, and the women they marry.

  • I thought that was pretty obvious. It's kind of shocking anybody would think differently.

  • nope.

  • Anybody now's how the little organ on the right called??

    Amazing song btw!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Being played by the bloke in the Buddy Holly glasses? That's a pedal steel guitar. It's played with a slide and fingerpicks.

  • Thank's mate!!!!! That guy was creepy to me lol:)

  • Good song. Ryan Adams is a great song writer.

  • The og version of this song is much better than anyone, including Bono, those jokers who sang it on One Tree Hill, and Tim McGraw (no matter how much I like him) could possibly try to sing.

  • Ryan Adams version, especially the 2009 version, is fucking great. Tim McGraw is a gaylord.

  • Who made this song?

'Cause there's a lot of artists singing it?

  • Ryan Adams wrote this song ;)

  • Nice! That IS the best version!

  • Ryan Adams, he wrote this song, he paid for a pool of unicorn bones with the money.

  • Ryan Adams wrote it and a lot of artists have covered it....

  • The bassist is my uncle!!!! (:

  • There is nothing like the original!!! SUPERB!

  • why is he in a band called jimmy and d coconuts?

    its strange!

  • I fucking love Ryan Adams! Saw him a few months ago and it was one of the greatest things on Earth!

  • "That's right, i wrote that fucking song. That's right, ME! I wrote it. And i got a pool made out of unicorn bones cos of that fucking song."

    LOL I love that part

  • I prefer OTH VERSION " When the stars go blue "

  • I also prefer oth's version. I just love the duet
