No seriously I would even prefer to see a good american team with a strong fanbase like Boston going far in the playoffs rather than the Phoenix Coyotes!... So if either the Bruins or the Canucks win, I'll be happy for our sport.

This is from old radio broadcasts, the voice was Foster William Hewitt back in the 1930s and 40s, obviously before Newfoundland was a recognized province of Canada. It was a coined term that was used routinely on the program. Hewitt was also the first broadcast announcer to coin the term "He shoots! He scores!"... apparently he was pretty cutting edge for his time haha

This version sounds too much like a 1970s prime-time drama theme...
Sounds like a mish-mash between the themes to TJ Hooker and Dallas, covered by bag-pipes.
It's so horrible that CBC ALWAYS drowns it out with voiceovers and other material.
CBC, Claborne, and CTV all dropped the ball on the original theme. It should have lived or died on CBC.

This isn't as good as the old one, and I didn't like it when I first heard it. But it's grown on me, it isn't TOO bad. Next season needs to start already or I'm going to start getting the shakes :P

@Jguthro Hockey is Canada's game. Hockey was invented in Canada, and even 49.8% of all players in the NHL were born in Canada. Teams were only placed in the US, because the NHL was looking to get an American market, to make more money and get Hockey more popularity.

I acctually like the new HNIC theme song better..it kinda grows on ya after a while give it a few years and it will be just as or more popular then the old one..hearing the old HNIC theme on TSN seems like a joke cause they dont use it properly.

The old one was from my childhood, but I associate the old song with losses and dissapointment. I'm sorry but I heard the leafs, canucks, habs, sens, flames and oilers lose too many big games with the onld song. It depresses me to hear it. This new one gives me hope for a new cup era in Canada. I miss the old one, like I miss being a kid, that's all.

It's not the same as the old one, but this one is growing on me. Forget the songs, intros, commentary, etc. The one common denominator is the game itself and that is all that matters.

Horrible piece of crap with no tradition. And why? Because CBC was screwing the lady that wrote it out of her royalties. She had to take them to court to get paid and they dropped her and the song. TSN could not believe their luck, they jumped at the chance to get the song that means Hockey to every Canadian from coast to coast. CBC executives are unpatriotic Idiots with no sense of Canadian tradition.

I used to get chills up my arms and stuff from the old theme song.....this one is ok but doesn't do it for me.
If I listen to the old theme i still get that same feeling....I can't wait till HNIC has the old theme back. Fk ctv, tsn and whoever else has that song....in my mind it don't belong to them no matter how much $ they pay for it
