The Letterman show was great sure, but if you compare it to anything he did vocally with Soundgarden it's a lost game.

He's lost power, range, and clarity which are three things are essential (depending on who you are and what you sing, that is).

It's obvious. All you need to do is listen. You can hear and even see him struggle.

i think the fact that he's such a phenominal studio singer causes people to get the wrong idea when they hear him live.  God blessed him with an amazing voice. I think this might have been when he was still smoking and drinking so that probably affected him. Once he became sober his voice went to a whole new level.
