  • The top speed on the bike is about 100

  • what year is the bike?

  • Can bluefox get some more thumbs up guys?

  • Damn alls everyone on youtube does anymore is argue..........STFU and just watch already, move on to the next video.

  • @bluefox9393 i agree

  • whats with using a clutch, no need for it here.

  • @HAUSS81 Well he might be a bit too aggressive with it but you still have to pull it in just a touch when speed shifting.

  • good race to watch, thanks for posting this.

  • The worst comparison anyone could have done...

It's like comparing a plane to a boat...

If u wanna make a good comparison, compare that mustang with a CBR 600cc or any other ROAD BIKE...

  • @guily6669 a xr 650 supermoto would do the job...

  • cr83 ahahahahha mt sinai, thats right near my house, nd thats a nice freakin bike

  • Rider shifts to late...

  • that a 4cyl? how is that bike keepin up after 3rd gear?

  • @mrdirtyharry1000 It is a four stroke, but it's a dual-sport/trail bike sort of thing. That means it's geared up for speed. That along with the 650cc's makes it very capable.

  • @magicman989

but its also an ancient engine design with less power than modern 250 four stroke motocross bikes.

  • @Jakalwarrior Less power than a modern four stroke 250? Uh, motocross 250's make on average 35hp from the factory. These bikes make 55-60hp depending on year, and that's with the anti-smog and fairly restrictive exhaust. The 650L still makes a very respectable amount of power for being a road legal dirt bike.

That "ancient" engine design also means Honda has taken the years to iron out all the kinks, so the engine is nearly indestructible and will last far longer than a lot of other engines.

  • @RTDragonCommando Had an 85' XL600 that hadn't been started for 20 years and started up first kick. Goes to show how reliable Hondas are.

  • it should be vs cbr 600

  • Not bad for a 35hp, 350lb dirtbike. The rider could have done a lot better in the second run if they knew how to shift without a clutch, though.

  • im 5ft 7 would i be able to touch the ground on a 650l?

  • @texasG04 it depends how much you weigh and how long your legs are. I'm 5'11 and I can comfortably touch the ground. I wouldn't go on a tight trail on it though.

  • Most cars will kill most dirtbikes on top speed , but dirtbikes aint built for top speed .. damn im pretty sure a 450 4t or 500 2t would eat most cars in the first 1/4 mile !!

most cars will go 120mph , bikes top out around 60-100 , aint surprising a car will eat a dirtbike in top speed ..

  • From zero to 60 the XR wins, there's no way around that, but in the long run displacement and gearing take over. This guy is not a good shifter though, he keeps the bike in each gear too long , over the peak, then SHIFTS. Thats not going to get you the best performance.

  • If the guy on the bike wouldve leaned forward just a lil bit more that wouldve helped...lol,,,i agree with JMSuperman,,,put the Stang in the dirt lmaoooo

  • put that mustang and that bike in a 1/4 mile...100 bucks says the bike whoops that stangs ass!!!

  • this has to be the south i mean who races a fucking dirtbike?

  • @straitdestroyed cool people

  • sooooo stoked to get one!!!!!!!!

  • What type of mpg does the xr get?

  • @TheWyomingMarine i heard it gets 50-60

  • My dream bike is an R1 but realistically I will end up getting either a 650L or a zx6r. I'll get one of those bikes not only because I have virtually no experience but also because of the fucked up gas prices.

  • @mark28105 My R1 got almost 50 when I was just cruzing on the freeway... Wont get much better with a 650

  • @cschilli68 What year is your R1? The new ones get around 33 mpg from what I understand. I don't know what the older ones get however even if you do own an 05 or whatever, to be getting close to 50 mph I bet your really dogging it in and out of 4th and 5th gear.

  • Try a 1981 KTM 495

  • dude shoulda no clutched the bike

  • A Green Car Machine VS a tricycle.

  • lets race a 'stang against an air cooled trail bike? whats the point? at least pick a bike made to race and for the road.

  • my XR 650L gets up to 0-80 real fast, then past that, the gearing has ran out and RPM's are to high. but the acceleration is incredible for a off road bike.

  • mustang would get raped by mine

  • @inteligentvtec what do they top out at im thinking of getting one instead of being killed on a street bike

  • @ecosby100 mine is a ktm 625. it does 116 flat out.

  • @inteligentvtec you are an idiot. Those kind of bikes aren't designed to go flat out. have fun re-building you're engine dickhead.

  • Comment removed

  • @GSG1298 i rebuild it all the time, and it is fun. so blow me cock sucker

  • @inteligentvtec waste of fucking money unless you have it geared for speed rather than acceleration.

  • @GSG1298 it's not a waiste of money its a hobby. 11.90's in quarter, 60 horse at the wheel

  • @inteligentvtec I hate to quote fast and furious but. "Wow, you can read the brochure!"

  • apples to oranges but fun to watch anyway. 5.0's are indeed fun but i agree that xl or xr 650 is king. that dude is right, the 650's proved to be a tough motor in the baja. good lookin bike too

  • why are you all up on the clutch

  • Put the Mustang in the dirt and let's see how good it does.

  • @jmssuperman Think you could get knobbies to go on the Mustang? (; hahaha!

  • @jmssuperman

Exactly, the thing shits itself if you even show it a bloody corner XD

Besides you'll have way more fun on the XR.

  • @jmssuperman why would you take a cruising car into the dirt ? that doesn´t make any sense. vehicles are forced to use roads to come from point a to point b so your point is invalid - and I seriously wonder how there can be 46 tards to give your comment a good rating. what do you use to come from point a to point b ? the road or a filthy off road course ? what do you use to drive to work ? a road or a dirty off road course ? enough said.

  • @3O2MuStAnG Why would you race a car against a bike like this? That doesn't make any sense. These bikes are forced to use roads where douches like you are driving from point A to point B in a poor attempt to race when you know you're going to win to boost your self esteem-so your comment is invalid-and I seriously wonder how there can be one tard like you, who thinks I give a shit about "good ratings." It was a comment to note that they are 2 different vehicles and the people agree. Enough said.

  • @jmssuperman I like how you act as if you were forced to insult me just to make your point. just goes to show how uneducated and desperate you are since you don´t have any proper arguments. at the end of the day you´re still gonna use the road - case closed. feel free to keep acting butt hurt.

  • @3O2MuStAnG Hell yeah I was. You come up out of the blue attacking me and getting all pissed off because I said something about a Mustang. This entire argument is pointless. My first comment simply stated that the two vehicles in question were not on their proper terrain for a legitimate race and I went about it by using a funny, but true declarative statement...

  • @jmssuperman ...And by the way, I have a bachelor's degree from a University and I am currently working on two more in the aviation field. I hold several pilot ratings including a CFII and rotorcraft. So...what have you done with your life?

  • @jmssuperman i agree with you, and i have a 71 vw baja bug, i drive it to school every day and all i do is take dirt roads i only hit pavment to cross to another dirt road

  • @jmssuperman add 4,000 lbs to the bike and lets see how well it does...dumbkoppf

  • take this thing into the Baja and the only thing that can come close to beating it is a 800hp trophy truck. This bike is King for what its made to do. it wins the baja 1000 almost if not every yr. 1000 mile race across the desert.

  • @3p0Drew fuel economy being the chief reason.a dirt bike with a 7 gallon tank doesn't have to stop as often.the bike isn't gonna top 140mph

  • anyone know the top speed on one of these?

  • @username2153 Probably somewhere around 100 mph (~160km/h).

  • @LunchAnderson really that it? bec i got a honda 1988 350cc and it goes 85mph or 90 on a good day

  • @username2153 Yeah, offroad bikes generally aren't very fast. They often have rather steep effect curves, so that you don't have to rev the engine as much in order to accelerate fast. However, that also makes -- and don't ask me why, because I'm not an expert on engines -- the maximum effect low compared to other bikes with the same cylinder volume. Also, this bike has a four stroke engine. Perhaps your Honda has a two stroke one? A two stroke engine can produce higher effect at the same #cc.

  • @LunchAnderson yeah i know how dirtbikes are lol but yeahhh its 4 stroke 350 (enduro) thats why im comparing it to the 650 enduro ahaha.

  • clutching so fast isnt always good unless you have your timing perfect that clutch is roasted from slipping id say

  • @Nigelk388 you sir are strupid

  • I just want to let you know that I made you some money because I clicked on the ads!.Enjoy.

  • i would love to see that mustang try that against my old YZ 490! hahahaha!

  • why's the bloke on the XR clutching when upshifting?

  • @not4resale Well, I think his bike is4resale... lol... I am not familiar with the XR650L gearbox but they are not quite the same as those found in an R6 or other supersport that tolerate clutch-less up-shift. I have never liked the feeling of missing the clutch during an up-shift on the bigger thumpers. Occasionally you miss the clutch or it fails and the bike will usually up-shift anyway (At least it will on the XR650R and KTM 690) but I wouldn't do it otherwise.

  • @not4resale so that his bike still has a gearbox at the end of the race :D

no seriously though the shift on these bikes is very clunky ;)

  • Comment removed

  • @DecaPierce a xr650l will max out a little over 95. its all geared up for offroad so once you get above 65 theres not much grunt left. ive got about all the mods minus the piston. and ive gotten mine up to around 97

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • @DecaPierce well enduros arent really made for speed. really wish they would start making more enduros with 6 gears tho i always try and shift my bike sometimes and just hope there would be a sixth gear on the highway. you must of been pushing that drz pretty hard to get it up to 106. but thats nuts you got going that fast. and klrs are real heavy. im sure more people have gotten there xrs up to higher speeds but i dont like to push my bike so hard that i feel like something might go wrong.

  • @DRugfree1987 atleast they are 0-60 fast

  • @DecaPierce yea they are. i love riding through chicago. i can keep with other bikes when you can only get up to 50

  • @DRugfree1987

That's all relative to weight and wind. I am fat and a billboard in the wind, so mine will hit about 90-95 with me on it. With a friend on it who is 100 pounds lighter and alot less wind drag, my bike has hit 112. Air temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, and even your oil are all factors in top speed too. It just depends.

  • thought the bike did well considering...

  • @letterpool yeah, I couldn't believe it even kept up, its not a bike built for racing on tarmac

  • i dont understand. who won?

  • @bandguy360 the car, it would not have been the same if it was over a muddy field lol XD

  • 650cc VS 5000cc there's a contest....

  • XR 650 is a pig motor, I'm just blown away that it kept up with the mustang. I'm sure its very comparable acceleration-wise to a 250F lol

  • I bet the 650 would've won if it was an R not an L.

  • lol, id pas that hatchback on one wheel with my 690 duke.

  • i had mine up to 109mph. i have road tires and a stage1 fmf with jet kit.

  • Had me a XR650L once-did some tuning on it/removed emissions/and did the carb job-it was a fast bike, wonderful ride till it got about 80 and then the wind would just blow the bars around on it-had it to about 105MPH--that was about it--really-it runs too hot, weighs too much and will kill you off road. I loved it, but it didnt love me..HA HA HA

  • Not bad.. I have a Yamaha XT600 and i can out accelerate most typical cars til about 100 km/h. You should have started the drag from a complete stop and pulled away in 2nd gear.

  • cant even out run a dirtbike

  • wow imagine a xr650R!!!!

  • Just purchased an XR650L, (1994 model) and it is a beast!! Cobra pipes and re-jetted with a down grade in teeth; coupled with all emission elements gone! She had just 2000 miles on her and let me tell you something... THE SHIT ROCKS LIKE NO OTHER BIKE...!!

I love her... People just stop and stare at her because of her graceful lines coupled with a mind blowing look of sheer power. Like a Pit Bull!!

  • @Aonexia , anyone who "loves" and xr650L (notice the accentuated "L") is n enemy of mine. that engine's only use is to anchor boats.

  • Zippy needs to learn hos to ride a motorcycle. That was pathetic..

  • nice vid i juss got my 09 xr650l today!!!!

  • @lalexisverysexy just rode my 08 650l lastnight fuckin awsome haha

  • Comment removed

  • nice bike

  • nice granny shiftin..

  • I'd race that car with my Husky 610... it'd be interesting

  • @BigAgitator the 610 husky would BLOW the mustang away in the 1/4

  • @motokev :) I think you're right. Someone referred to the 610 as similar to an uncorked xl600. far from it. I have ridden both and the xl is a great bike but not nearly as powerful.

  • any one wanna race us come to long island

  • la la la

  • haha, I love how you blame the america instead of the actual rider. Typical.

  • @wolfy317 hey fuckwit its got nothing to do with the rider. the 650 is not made to race a fucking v8 stang

  • @88rodeo Get a life and a clue fucktard. My comment was 9 months ago and was in reference to comment that has nothing to do with what you are trying to say. I have a 650L, I know it's not made to race asshat.

  • Ha, never ridden a dirtbike, let alone a Honda.

  • no tienes pelotas, pero tu madre tiene

  • @20fulton07

Anyone that has rode a 650L would know that you don't rev it to the moon. Peak HP and torque happens well before even when this guy shifted it. The engine is designed to have great, usable torque throughout the entire RPM range, which it does quite well- but it falls on it's face early in the RPMs. I have an '08 650L which gets insulted by just about any modern car after 50 MPH- it is too heavy, too slow, and too primitive. Still fun enough, but not good at much.

  • @20fulton07 yeah, the UK has always been known for it's superior ability to lift their left toes up an inch

  • me gusta mucho. los motos de honda son BONITOS

  • tas bin wey metele todo el fierro dejate caer y veras como lo chingas

  • easy spank it on my runner 180 smoker LOL

  • thos xr 650s have so much grunt, p.s i would spank that mustang on my 690 smc

  • Nice video!! Pick your poison boys! You wanna get spanked by the swine or the equine? I own and love both, nicely done. GET SOME!!

  • i would SMOKE this fuckin mustang with my yz450f....!!

    .

  • Let's see you race a Mustang, or anything on your 450.

  • you was ever on a 450 motocrossbike before?

  • I have, and was not overly impressed. Of course, I ride a KX-500 and drive a supercharged Mustang, so it takes a lot to impress me.

  • What people don't realize is the xr is not designed as a performance street bike so this is completely out of it's element. This race is just for shits and giggles. Now they should of had 2 types of races to make it fair. One street race in the mustangs element and one off road race thru the boonies in the XR's element. Then one race with a combination of both street and off road. Then see who wins 2 outta 3...

  • @nimlil Honda XR650L is not an off-road bike. It was designed for road. Honda HR650R is an off-road motorcycle.

  • @AnotherUserr Of Course, that is why they are on the road in the first place and why I said they should race a combination of street and off road. The XR650L was designed from a true off road bike (for it's time) from the Baja winning XR600R driven by Scott Summer and actually wasn't a bad off roader dual purpose till the new breed of Ktm's and Husky's. As we know driving a true off roader on the road would be illegal and we wouldn't want to break the law now, would we? LOL.

  • @nimlil couldnt agree with you more, owned several very quick machines in my life mustang cobra being one of them, something to be said for the rush when you're on the gas.but theres more to a vehical than just speeding around though and reliability was always an issue and worrying about your drivers licence sucked. when i compare all my rides to the 98 xr 600 i had a year ago the xr wins out because it scored high in more than just one category. regret selling it,gonna get anouther one.

  • @nimlil Like honda CR500 Vs mitsubishi pajero. That wood b a good race!!!

  • @JACKAU93 That would be fun. Could do towing capacity, manoverabilty, comfort, wheelie ability, luggage room, extreme jumps, Average time from Seattle to the Florida Keys for a beer run, Supercross and rush hour traffic could be some of the comparisons. Loser buys beer!!!

  • what people don't realize is that cars are much faster than they appear, it's harder to notice their acceleration because you're enclosed and on a seat but make no mistake, cars are pretty fast and they definitely corner better, harder and faster than motorcycles.

  • i think your very wrong on the acceleration part. it takes alot more HP in a car to out accelerate even a 600cc street bike

  • haha an average car, vs an average bikke, who wins??? bike everytime, especially round corners

  • It's called power to weight ratio.

Bike out accelerates cars unless the car is heavily modded.

  • not to mention that guy looks like he's 135 lbs, if he were 235, be a much different race

  • dont forget traction and arowdynamics which cars dominate at

  • Traction a bike gets plenty of, it just sucks to keep down the front wheel with a lot of traction. Aerodynamics suck on a bike compared to a small car though.

  • @gsotodotcom

Tell that to any state patrolman that would not have a snowball's chance in hell of catching a bike without his radio and a band of cronies. Even a road anchor cruiser can outrun a car with a good rider- a slouch cafe bike with 100HP (most are far more than that these days) still only has 400-500 pounds to push, verses 300-400 HP in a 4000+ pound squad car. It doesn't take a math whiz to see which has the advantage.

  • @roadtoad777 Yup...its easy to outrun the squad car...but its hard to out run the radio, and swarms of doughnut hogs :P

  • hey the xr held its own pretty well against the mustang

  • There's no replacement for displacement....Gotta love the XR though...

  • I luv that bike, but the top speed is only 164 km/h. Damned !

  • XR's rule, best dual sport bike out, yeah its old tech but it still kicks Boo-Tay!! (trails, street, dunes wherever)

  • the drz400s would keep up with the xr650

  • yh they do, i got one i never looked back, pat from checkin to se if the cops are behind haha

  • The XR650L is old school technology. My XR650R would destroy the mustang...for a while lol.

  • Eh, decent video.

  • mustangs are gay . that xr is bad ass

  • hey nice bike, just wonderin is it air cooled and how many gears does it have

  • Comment removed

  • 650Ls are air cooled and hav 5 gears

  • i had a 2002 xr650L. The only mods were a rejetted carb, and a K&N air filter.. it would stomp any Mustang from a dead stop, to about 45 mph. after that, almost any car has more power.

  • Neither can be stock. The xr650l does not have any of its emissions crap left on the motor and its to loud to have a stock exhaust. As on XR650L owner I know with a little work they stomp most cars all day long so the mustang must not be stock either.

  • lol good comparison

  • That mustang can't be stock because I haven't met a car yet that can keep up with my XR up to 90mph

  • @thejamescat

You haven't ran against a Subaru WRX, then. Damn thing insulted my L out of the hole, and even worse after 30.

  • the race should be from 0 to 100 km/h or 120 , try again!

  • does anybody know if honda will make a new dual sport for 2010 or will they keep it the same XR650L ?

  • The CRF230L

  • @Davec775

I suspect they will keep the L as long as it is still selling. Why change a profitable vehicle?

  • Try the same race again but ( OFF ROAD ) this time & see just how good the mustang is then, without doing anything to both machines...

  • that sucks that its the XR650L the liquid cooled R runs Higher compression. an R would have spanked that mustang in tell 3rd or 4th from a stop

  • @KTMchris300

The R is a whole different ball game. Nasty pricks, they are!

  • the mustang have racing mods

  • well, the xr will kill the mustang in the fuel economy department anyway

  • @Markmeblablabla

My Saturn gets better mileage than my L on the highway.. LOL.. Still, alot more fun than the stupid Saturn!

  • @roadtoad777

Yeah I found when I'm in the city my xr gets pretty thirsty compared to your modern compact car, but then again I'm usually running it faster. Maybe that wouldn't be the case if the bike was fuel injected?

  • meh notch... but good runs
