So pardon me, but I watched Star Wars Episode 3 more times than I played WarCraft 3, and I just got WarCraft 3 a few weeks ago off of the Blizzard website. Even so, I read Arthas Rise of the Lich King, and believe me reading it in a book was much worse than seeing it in a game. In a videogame you see one scene and then acknowledge it as what happeend, but in a book all these different scenes pop up in your mind. -_-

A perfect cinematic. Bells ring as Arthas returns in triumph, the bridge crashing down before him, and as the rose petals fall he catchs one and look at it as if thinking "I would have found this beautiful once..." and then he looks up at the heavens as if daring any of the Gods to stop him. A minute later he throws back his hood to make sure there is no confusion over who is doing this as he kills his father. And finally the bells continue to ring as no one realizes what has happened.

@masterofjelly This is for two reasons, the first: Medivh, posed no harm, he had no weapon and it could be likely the politicians signalled to hold back.

In the case of Arthas? The two men who shadowed him are actually necromancers. And they cursed the guards as Arthas approached the throne, you can see them walking up to the guards simultanously.

you n00b obviously arthas killing the king is just a symbol for the fall of lordaeron. After their king being murdered so unexpectedly the guards and the people have no hope... Most likely Arthas killed the guards and raised the undead and his undead minions rushed in to kill the rest of the humans.

This was Warcraft, not WORLD of Warcraft. Arthas was a Death Knight then and those two with him were necromancers, so every soldier killed meant another undead fighting for Arthas. Plus, have you seen what Tirisfal Glades looks like nowadays? Arthas did that. Really, a bunch of royal guards didn't stand a chance against a Death Knight and two necromancers.

He did not quite incapacitate Ilidan, more like stunned him. Like a warning blow to show him he can do more. And even if the footmen are somehow inferior, that does not stop them from trying, after all they will die if they don't, they COULD live on if they do.
