That's kinda know-how of the Elbrus anti-avalanche squad, and makes them proud since they have experience to slide down avalanche from the single shot. And that's definitely not easy, at least according to the Montgomery Atwater's book "The Avalanche Hunters". Also, there's no other stationery systems installed, like Gazex etc - these ~10 cannons are the only and efficient way against avalanches there.

@aussersein Actually, you'd be surprised how common this is in heavy snow areas. They'll fire some sort of artillery to pre-avalanche the mountains, more often than not because there's a highway/railway track that passes close to the mountain.

Hell, I've seen them do it on that stupid show 'Ice Road Truckers'. They used a recoiless artillery piece captured in Vietnam (army surplus) to do it.
