sega should,ve clearly docommented their hardware for game developers and make tools to convert hardware languanges,tpye polygons etc,,, etc,, from othe consoles to the saturn system.
they also should,ve docummented how to overcome some limmitations of their hardware and how to use all proccesors smoothly/
this would,ve make it developers much easier of making and porting games to it,without the need of guessing what to do and reverse engineering,the saturn hardware and game engines!!!

SSF is made by 1 guy and has full compatibility with all the top games. the n64 people can't even get pkmn snap to work right see EX:watch?v=eEC02hp90vQ . what really killed it was the price if they had used cheaper parts that were more common it would have sold better and much easyer to develope for.

@DMANDUSTYN I beg to differ. Saturn actually did not bad in Asian, though it was considered as "CRAP" in America or in Europe. It made the final bet to compete with Sony, but see what they have launched: Dreamcast. What is it? A console with GD-ROM, not DVD which was hot at that era...... this bold move was already sucidial. Yes, you may consider that the Saturn made Sega down-fell sharply, but obviously Sega did not value their final chip and made the bet that made them became total loser!
Simpler entertainment for a simpler time. I remember when they said realtime 3D acceleration wasn't possible. I think even a cell phone can do way more than 500,000 polygons per second now. Wow.

the failure of the sega saturn did not help the dreamcast one bit. sega after the saturn found themselves more in debt which in turn made sure that the dreamcast didnt have the resources to compete with its rivals , and also sony was making tons of profit and consumer trust that enabled the ps2 to be more sucsessful .even though the dreamcast had a head start over the ps2
Well atleast The Nintendo 64 and Playstation had better promo videos.But that doesen't mean it's a bad system.However I did remeber the promos for the N64 and PS1.
The N64 promo showed Ken Lobb(former markter of Nintendo) giving a demostation of the system with Mario 64,Pilotwings 64 and StarWars:Shadows of the Empire.
The PS1 promo showed previews of Crash 2,FF7,MGS,Sympony of the Night and some other games.However it's a shame how the Saturn ended up.

I was discussing that same point with a friend the other day, when you try playing one of your old ps1 games which seemed incredible only 8 years ago, then look at the likes of xbox 360 games its just not comparable, the way games are played now couldnt have even been conceptualised (spelling?) only 10 years ago. Look at Doom and Half life, now compare them with Doom 4 and Half Life 2 Episodes, or Gears of War and Battlefield Bad Company 2.

These commercials remind me of the ps3 commercials where they overhype way too much over the hardware but they dont have the software to back it up. Sony is falling into the same position Sega was in the 90s where power is more important than the games, so what comes around goes around bud.

500,000 polys/second? Maybe in games with no textures! I just bought a Saturn but I have to say that SEGA were full of sh*t in this vid. It was not at all cutting edge 3d, they threw in off the shelf parts at the last minute to give it 3d because of sony's pioneering Playstation that came out at roughly the same time. It had the advantage of using CDs but programming for the machine was a bitch. Even in this vid, apart from Virtua Fighter, nothing impresses compared to even Ridge Racer in 1994!
Also the Saturn version of Tomb raider is considered the better looking port compared to PS1. PS1 projects the environments better but laura looks and moves alot smoother on the saturn.
These were likely the coolest damn' commercials to 1995 stoners.

I think one of the biggest downfalls of the SEGA Saturn was that there really was no true Sonic Game.
Sonic R was a racing game, Sonic Jam was a compilation of the SEGA Genesis Sonic Games, and Sonic 3D blast was the Genesis game on the Saturn

The PS1 promo showed previews of Crash 2,FF7,MGS,Sympony of the Night and some other games.However it's a shame how the Saturn ended up.

I was discussing that same point with a friend the other day, when you try playing one of your old ps1 games which seemed incredible only 8 years ago, then look at the likes of xbox 360 games its just not comparable, the way games are played now couldnt have even been conceptualised (spelling?) only 10 years ago. Look at Doom and Half life, now compare them with Doom 4 and Half Life 2 Episodes, or Gears of War and Battlefield Bad Company 2.

first of sega was behind nintendo and even the turbo grafix 16 until the released sonic the hedgehog, and sega had a sonic game planed but it was delayed, and look the Saturn was a horrible failure after the success of the Genesis.

These commercials remind me of the ps3 commercials where they overhype way too much over the hardware but they dont have the software to back it up. Sony is falling into the same position Sega was in the 90s where power is more important than the games, so what comes around goes around bud.

im a sega fan boy when i saw the commercial with this crazy bald dude he scared me back then and i desided to buy a ps one one more reson that i bought ps1 back in 1995 was the price one hundred dollars cheaper than saturn and one game to keep me away from saturn for 14 years was a game of all games well in my mind the 1998 game METAL GEAR SOLID!

500,000 polys/second? Maybe in games with no textures! I just bought a Saturn but I have to say that SEGA were full of sh*t in this vid. It was not at all cutting edge 3d, they threw in off the shelf parts at the last minute to give it 3d because of sony's pioneering Playstation that came out at roughly the same time. It had the advantage of using CDs but programming for the machine was a bitch. Even in this vid, apart from Virtua Fighter, nothing impresses compared to even Ridge Racer in 1994!

Try Panzer Dragoon 1, 2, saga.
Also the Saturn version of Tomb raider is considered the better looking port compared to PS1. PS1 projects the environments better but laura looks and moves alot smoother on the saturn.
