  • The pressure built up in the finished water can be sent back to the supply water to keep pressure on the supply water and maby a cheak valve.

  • Not for backpacking

  • Have you tried putting a check valve in on the water feed side of the coil?

  • water came to a boil, in the coil.

  • and we boil the lobster on low heat

  • Tinny, Probably won't help with steam, but, the water backing up can be solved with an aquarium air flow valve. Made to protect the air-pump from water over-pressuring the air coming out. They cost a buck or two. Similarly, any 'one-way' valve should get you in the right direction.

  • i don't have the patience to read all the comments but i'm sure you know this, the steam backfire can be resolved by keeping the water container lower than the coil , an using a pump, and by placing the water collector kettle a bit higher; my question is : have you tried this setup yet?

  • Bummer! I can't play this video. A little testing suggests that I can't play any of Tinny's videos, although (so far) all other videos by all other people seem to play fine. Has Tinny somehow gotten crosswise with YouTube? Or is it just something weird with my system such that I can't play Tinny's videos?

  • You are the first to I know of to have this problem

  • Tinny, I can't find the video that showed the boil times of your heat-sink pots. You said the Jet-boil works but not yours. Were you pouring in the heat like the Jet-boil does? I think you should use a bongo turbo.

  • Your the only youtuber that I will clack an ad for, Love the videos.

  • Wow Tinny!!!! You amaze me. Respect to you....

    Shug

  • love it. how cool would it be to place a small steam engine on your first coil?

  • Use an open double coil...standing on the burner...and use just about normal flow speeds, that is how the on demand units work..its not one coil...it is about 50 feet of thin walled tubing, coiled inside itself until it fits in a 2foot tall unit.

  • Tinny, that looks all too complicated but thanks for sharing.

  • i wiould like to see a coffee make with the coil design that would be really cool

  • Tinny, heat rises and if you put your water res on the table and stand your coil on its side preferably in a cone shape (cold input on bottom output on top) also raise your pot higher than your cold water hose and make sure you don't develop a vacume in the cold water res. In my forsight it should work and self feed.

  • cool Idea but what is the point? if you boil water you are making steam if you only want to warm water will you then boil it latter a second step. Just wondering whats the motivation just asking BTW thanks for the info I learn a lot watching your videos.

  • 5/5m8

  • seems to me you need thinner walled tube with a smaller diameter and more of it

  • put check valve between water bottle and coil, and dont restrict flow from coil out, to prevent steam pressure building up.

  • put a small check valve on the input side to prevent the water and steam from going back up it.

  • Great video as usual. How about a one way value between the water bottle and the heating coil and then a second coil for cooling before the pot to condense the steam back into water. Now you have a fast water purifier.

  • if it was me i'd try having the outlet on top, hopefully that way when (if) the water boils the steam should rise out the top, if you wanted to get fancy you could also use a double walled pipe on the outlet for a condenser. even condensing of the inside it should still be hot enough for drinking / cooking (plus its already boiled anyway for sterilising purposes)

  • Tinny,

My carpet cleaning truck has a coil hot water heater in it, similar to what you are designing. It is basically three coils going up with the flame at the bottom. (one coil is inside of the other) The cold water comes in at the bottom and the hot water leaves at the top.

Hope that gives you a little something to mull over in your next design.

  • All that playin' is fun...just as long as you fill my order today...hehe! :o)

  • use a can and have two openings, one on the top, one on the bottom. connect the bottom end to one end than the top to the other. as the water goes down into it, how water will come out the top oh and try making the coil diagnal or verticle to stop the water backing up, try this . High chance of working. post a nother vid on this when u come up with something else please. TRY THIS!!!

Oh and i love ur vids . am a subscriber

    TRY THIS, Try this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • You need to get a larger diameter coil. Copper refrigeration tubing at hardware stores might work well

  • 10 commets good vid timy

  • Can't you use a copper coil within a can with some kind of high flame jet stove?

  • Tinny, get yourself an electric tea maker and look how it is made. perhaps you could simple use the same method or something similar.

  • no because in an electric water heater it as has a heating element inside to heat the water

  • There's the pointer for small scale boiling. Good luck.

  • and maybe a little copper tube inside plugged at one end might increase the tempertureinside the coil like a heatsink

  • yes you should stand it up and put a valve at the end and wait till the back flow to tell you the water inside hot then open the valve up alittle for a small flow that should stop the back flow while gravity does its thing and the water passing true should stay the same temp

  • make sure that the tube from the bottle is on top

  • try a small pump like for a water fountain, or a bilge pump for a boat 12v dc. that way you could also recirculate water.

  • basically you are trying to use the method of heating up fuel before you burn it for water instead..

go with a vertical coil. with the outlet on the bottom. and the entering on top

  • This is fascinating! i was thinking about something like this for my wood gas stove.

  • nice ideas
