  • I guess my comment didn't get on here. @jspartacus you need to get your story straight. Schon never tried to kick out Carlos from his own band. I'd like to know where you got that?!

  • Hey jspartacus, really dude, first you need to get your story straight. Schon never tried to kick out Carlos out of his own bad.. I'd like to know where you got that. and even Neal would say that Robin is an excellent guitarist.

  • A great job of recording there!

  • i love bad companey. they are greait.

  • "Whatever."

Apparently this is what passes for a rebuttal with you. That and simply repeating yourself like a fucking parrot.

"Trevor Rabin would never sink to such musical depths."

It doesn't matter if Schon plays in a gay albino midget polka band. That you distinguish a player from context shows how terribly low your IQ is.

"he's just a footnote in guitar history"

Compared to Trevor? Completely fucking generic player. Who cites him as an influence? Honestly? *rofl* So fucking pathetic.

  • "Explain it to me!"

It's completely fucking irrelevant. It's like Ozzy's work with Black Sabbath sucks because of some gay Lita Ford duet he did later in his career.

Clearly you're one of those tin-eared faggots for whom music is fashion.

  • "Whatever. Schon is also on plenty of 'worst of' lists too."

*rofl* Where? Way to pull "facts" out of your ass.

    "Answer THAT, fucktard!"

You forgot to call Journey a "faggot band", and impugn Schon's playing by association. That's the inevitable next step for a low-IQ troglodyte who's unable to distinguish a player from his context, and who is so desperate to rationalize his position that he summarizes a great player as the sum of his faults. You're a tone-deaf moron.

  • Bring it on! Guitar World Mag: "JOURNEY

    Faithfully

    Frontiers (1983)

    GUITARIST: Neal Schon

Its too easy to diss anything Neal Schon has done. After all, hes the idiot who allegedly tried to kick Carlos Santana out of Santana. But the solo on Faithfully sums up everything that was wrong with Eighties rock guitar, and then some. The wimpy wankfest that ends this song is so overplayed, overblown and overextended that you wish it was over now." There's plenty more where that came from...

  • "Guitar World"

*facepalm* The same magazine that called Kurt Cobain one of the greatest guitarist of all time. You go, girl.

    "There's plenty more"

    Bullshit.

  • @jspartacus Wow! I used to think that everyone is different and that we all have different, and equally valid, opinions on subjective subjects like art, but now that I see this opinion is from a writer who works at a magazine that gets worldwide circulation I must admit that I am wrong. We should all shun our own opinions and adopt the opinions of those who are better than us because they work in media. Opinions of art are NOT subjective! My mistake!!! Sorry, world.

  • SRV PUTS THEM ALL TO SHAME..

  • There are so many Neal Schon with Paul ripping it up way beyond what we see here.

His muddy water blues album is just amazing.

It's like he invited every kick ass guitarist except for Clapton.

  • If any one thinks Neal can't scream take a listen to his Pirhana Blues CD. And one other thing about Neal he has been a relevent player since he was 15 In Santana all the way to this day.Not many Flash guitarest can say that.

  • Neal is awesome he is truly a real blues guitar player.

  • Uh, no. Schon is completely sloppy when he tries to play fast. You don't fake speed when you're up on stage with a hardcore prog musician and composer like Trevor Rabin. You either have it or you don't. Sorry Neal, not this time. Rabin easily wiped the floor with you.

  • Are you watching the same video as we are??? Nothing against Trevor Rabin personally but if he wants to take on Neal Schon he'd better sell that purple blouse and buy some guitar lessons.

  • Trevor Rabin can play circles around Schon. On top of being a vastly superior guitarist and musician, he's also composed a gazillion orchestral movie soundtracks, from Con Air and Armageddon to Gone in Sixty Seconds. Definitely not a guy who is content to sit on past glories from a quarter century ago. So get your facts straight.

  • Comment removed

  • With a 500 character limit I can't even start to list Neal Schon's accomplishments which you obviously know nothing about. Why don't you ask Trevor Rabin what he thinks of Schon's playing. Neal was asked by Eric Clapton to play with Derek and the Dominos at the age of 15. But hey, you would kow better than Eric Clapton... wouldnt you.

Just for the record I actually think Rabin is an excellent player. It's your uninformed opinion that is lacking.

  • Whatever. Schon has 2 accomplishments: Santana and Journey. That's IT. Any "accomplishments" he made were usurped violently by Van Halen, who literally rewrote the book on how to play guitar, and made Schon an insignificant footnote in the history of rock guitar. These are Schon's words, not mine: playing with Van Halen is like "getting your ass kicked every night by the best sword-swinging sushi chef in the land." So unless you know what the fuck you are talking about, shut your hole, okay?

  • "Schon is completely sloppy when he tries to play fast."

You're fucking clueless. The sound is muddy, not Schon's playing. Search "rodgers schon 1993" to see hear a much better recording of Schon playing this same guitar with Rodgers, fucking tearing it up. Schon's speed, bend, vibrato, phrasing, flow, intensity, and virtually everything else I give a shit about in a soloist, shits all over Trevors. Amazing that you would defend the from-the-fingers wankery Trevor displays here.

  • Whatever, fucktard. You have no clue who Trevor Rabin is. Rabin is a vastly superior musician who doesn't slum out his talents playing pathetically crappy covers of tired Mariah Carey, Bryan Adams, and Celine Dion songs. But I guess you love that worthless shit, obviously.

  • "Rabin is a vastly superior musician"

No, he's not. He's a fucking wanker. See: 2:30. Neal is one of the most highly regarded and influential players of the 70s and 80s, on numerous greatest lists, cited by tons of great players as an influence, with a singular voice and intensity. Trevor isn't fit to lick his jockstrap.

  • Where are you Kossof to give them all a lesson?

  • i think he's in heaven or hell playing guitar jajajajaj

  • umm they're all really good..go listen to a yes album, a G&R album, any fuckin album....i personally i think they're all just different..not better

  • I agree about Slash and Setzer, they played yhe best solos by far, Ravin and Schon looked idiots. Maybe Setzer played the way he did to highlight how ludicrous the guy before him was.

  • yh i think slashs solo is is the best definatly

  • slash and setzer are playing real blues. the two others are just pritteyfucked..all just effects. blues and rock n roll must be real and not that fucking shit that schon does

  • Now u my friend know wat ur talkin about ;^)!!! Slash's my homeboy!!

  • listen to buckwheat man almost like them man drummers

  • i love how paul rodgers sings the blues! phew!!!!!!!

    the man's got soul!

  • All of these guitarists are good in their own type of music but there is safety in numbers........Only one guitarist could play the blues with Paul Rodgers and that was PAUL KOSSOFF now he could play with feeling. You may not agree with me but listen to FREE and I rest my case

  • Can't really argue with your comment except if you listen to the Muddy Waters album you'll hear loads of great guitarists playing the blues with Paul Rodgers. All done well. But...few if any had the feel of Koss. Sadly missed. Free were so brilliant, it's pretty hard to exaggerate how good they were. Now seem to be getting a bit more recognition. Move away from All Right Now, and listen to some of the beautiful ballads, then come back in with Woman, or Ride on Pony. Simply superb.

  • Free were put together and started doing a set with the legendary Alexis Korner on his live gig, This is where the underlying blues theme was probably brought out. If you listen to Tons of sobs, which was recorded almost live, you can feel Koss and Rodgers bonding If thats the right word. Listen and you will know what I mean

  • witness a show similar 1990 georgetown, md in a blues venue which was on fire..thanks for the post

  • Plus you put slash in a room with neil and said lets have a little contest where they both used the same amps, same effects, slash would rip the freaking hell outta neil. Don't get me wrong neil's freaken great, but slash would kill him. the only real competition for salsh would be SRV, Eric Clapton, and the best guitarist in history, Jimmy Page

  • Rip SRV, page, clapton and few few others are the best guitarist...then comes paul the damn best rock/blues singer/songwriter allvie

  • Listen up idiots. Playing guitar isn't always about being the flashiest guy on stage. It's about soul. Yeah Neil may be shredding his butt off, and yeah Neil is good but Slash has alot more soul. And like the other guy said, Neil is effect laiden, and slash is just showin soul. and it takes two hands for neil to do what slash does with one

  • TROWER.....DUHHHH!!!!

  • Shame the best guitarist in the world wasn't on this, he would have shown them how to do it......Ritchie Blackmore !!

  • I agree, but who do you think is the best guitarist in this clip? Slash? Neal?

  • i would say Neil schon, Slash is just flash lol

  • The guitarists were great!! Hey...don't insult other guitaris...it's only about taste. You have no right to talk like that. You talk like you're great musician!! Even real great musicians respect each other. It shows that you're only amateur who has big mouth!! I bet you can't play guitar like them. Just sit, watch and enjoy the video. Oh yeah...i forgot...Shut your f****g mouth!!

  • is good to know that you guys know about guitar and good music and that kind stuff not like others that say that slash is better than shon or has more felling.

  • i'm sorry but neal schon has more feeling that slash and neal can play real blues no like slash

  • And he shows none of his blues playing here...

  • Just when I had almost forgotten how shit Slash is...

  • Sorry but if you want to compare the guitarists here you first of all have to bring them to the same standard ! Slash & Setzer play only with a bit of distortion. Neal and the other guys play with a hell of effects in their sound. Take these effects away and see then what is left. The most important thing to this song is feeling and not effects and technique. Respect to them all and justice for Slash and Setzer. :)

  • hey this video was great paul great singer, neal schon amazing guitarist, and slash buuuuuuuu he's nothing. neal schon totally kick his ass schon is 100 times better

  • Slash couldn't hold Neal Schon or Trevor Rabin's jock straps! Yeah, I know, Neal plays in (melodic rock) Journey, but he is 3x the guitar player that Slash will ever be.

  • anyone know what year this was and is there a cd or dvd that i can find. this awesome!

  • Slash and Setzer is far better than the other guys.

  • Schon sporting a Tom Anderson I believe.

  • Seems like Slash and Brian Setzer were the only ones not interested in complete shred masturbation.

  • "Seems like Slash and Brian Setzer were the only ones not interested in complete shred masturbation."

Sadly, Schon has a tendency to do that, but he also has a long recorded legacy of some of the most understated, tasteful, soulful solos ever recorded.

  • who are the soloists in order, i got slash, neal schon but the others...

  • after neal..trevor rabin(YES) brian setzer(STRAY CATS)...

  • I love the sex thing he does when he first says "til my back ain't got a bone"..he is some major sex

  • Slash or 'piss' (what i like to call him) makes me laugh. So overated and he looks like a rock n roll clone.

  • love it!!! can't wait till i see paul on oct 12th now!! thanx for sharing :)

  • that made my day

  • you can rock me any time!

  • Awsome! Got a kiss of Paul when he played at Ronnie Scotts. Gorgegous lips. Yeahhhh!

  • Very few things are more phallic than a man and his guitar!

  • Rodgers has always been the man!

  • Yaaaaaaaaaaaaa maaaaaaaannnnn !!!
