  • I love your videos! I am a groomer myself and I think your videos are outstanding! I have a cocker myself. It's nice to see someone who knows how to do a proper haircut! hehe

  • that looks horrible! i mean my mother can cut dogs better than that! but thanks for helping other people out anyway.

  • God, I wish my spaniel was this at ease when I cut his hair

  • I sure do appreciate your help. I am about to do my Cocker for the first time (my experience) and I hope I can get it right but if I don't It won't break my heart. I will have to just try until I get it right. You have such a cooperative little guy. He is a very pretty Cocker.

  • BAD BAD GROOMING.DO YOU KNOW WHAT IS STRIPPING? IF YOU WANT THE DOG LOOK LIKE A BEER,YOU HAVE MADE THE RIGHT THINGS.Exuse for my english

  • @TheCapitanokirk Good point. I have also found that I rarely want my pets to resemble an alcoholic beverage.

  • i have been grooming 4 years and i stil have a problem bleding the skirts on all my breeds i have alsway been told to skim but after i think i have skimed and blened the skirt someone comes and show me how it should really be done and it looks 10 times better than my attempt can you do a vid on skimming or give some tips

  • excellent .. love watching this .. I had no idea how much work it takes to groom a cocker spaniel :-)

  • How come sometimes the clipper leaves those liney marks? I saw that it happened to you in this video to on the dog front shoulder. I oil and clean my blades before every grooming, and lately my #5's have been leaving those liney marks.

  • @mogimoo Well, it can be the blades, you could be going too fast or it could be the dogs coat. Danny's coat is really curly so it tends to do that in places... sometimes if you slow down it will help... sometimes you just have to go back over those places with scissors or thinning shears. ;)

  • how long have you been grooming?

    Not so hot!

  • am from england and every groomer here would always use clippers and cut just the same as you do, i think your vids are great!

  • @Garfymom As far as the table and restraints go, if you are planning on doing this for the life of your dogs then I believe you should go ahead and invest in a good table and set of loops. My table is great and only cost around $350. You would spend that in a year on grooming for the two Cockers you have if you took them to a groomer so just think of it as an investment. ;)

  • @Garfymom As far as being scared of the clippers, you just want to make it a good experience. Use lots of treats and praise and you can even try just getting them used to the noise and vibration while snuggling on the couch without actually using the blade part of the clipper.

  • how do you groom their tummy and female bottoms?

  • this was so helpful. I just bought my first set of clippers because I was tired of my cocker coming home from Petsmart with razor burn on his bum! :( We'll both be much happier now thanks to your video

  • @InweOronra This dogs coat is just fine actually. ;) I haven't met a groomer here in my town that doesn't clip them :) Thanks for your rude comment!! :)

  • @InweOronra Hand stripping a cocker spaniel might be the correct approach, but it's also an option. When it comes to this kind of activity one should be unprejudiced, creative and work on emphasizing the dog's structure. InweOronra, you should work a bit on this ideas instead of attacking people. For example, you could check on the book "Notes From The Grooming Table" from Melissa Verplank, where you can find and build a bit more your knowledge on this subject.

  • @anaaguilar ;) Thanks! :) Notes from the Grooming table is an excellent book and should be looked at by all who are serious about grooming at home. Thanks for bringing that up. :)

  • Thank you for the informative videos. I am getting ready to do my first grooming ever.

  • Do you do anytthing to the legs and feet?

  • @pashtag Yes, on part 4 I do the feet, and on my dog I didn't do anything to his legs and skirt just because I wanted him to grow out but if you like them shorter you can trim them either with sissors or clippers. ;)

  • great videos cheers from australia . i love watching your videos . keep up the great work.

  • @planes100 I'm from aussie too!! but in brissy! where u at?!

  • To help you out a little on the poofiness, try going against the growth of the fur for a smoother look. I also use air at my shop and that helps with the "clean" look, other times its a huge pain. You also may need to change out your blade, if you have a clipper that can do that, because the metal gets SUPER hot and it can burn the dog. He looked really good though! :)

  • Thanks, I was taught never to go against the grain of the coat... do you have a video of what you are talking about exactly? And what are you talking about by air? a dryer or a clipper vac? And yes, I have several of each blade to prevent clipper burn. ;) Thanks so much for your comment. :)

  • Yes, a clipper vac. They're nice sometimes. I can probably sum up a video at the shop some time, if it'll be informative :P

  • wow, what a cute little guy :) I love cockers and I am going to buy one soon. I just have a question, are there different kind of hairstructers within the cocker spaniel? I think I have seen cockers with a "flat" furr and cockers with furr like yours, a little whavy. and how often do you cut and groom you dog? I have a poodle right now and I am going to a "pro-groomer" about 5 times a year, is that alright with a cocker to? Hope to get an awnser! (im from sweden so sorry for the missspelling)

  • Hi there, There are different hair types but that is only due to the breeding of the dog. They should have a nice thick full coat with a bit of wave to it. I have seen several different types though but most are incorrect. I have to bath Danny often becuase he has allergies but as far as the actual clipping goes I recomment about every 4-6 weeks. Same goes for just about any breed that gets a hair cut. Thanks for your comment/questions. :)

  • where did you learn all this? you seem to be very good!:D

  • Actually the Atlanta Pet Fair had a wonderful class that I attended and have just been practicing for about 8 years now. Thanks for the comment. :)

  • @spanielmom93

okey! It looks very fun to!:)

  • nice thank 4 the video... i have 2 females .. that a nice male. :)

  • Your welcome and thank you! :)

  • Oh! I never would of thought of that! (my mom had a cocker growing up and had a fullshave down at the vet every few months!) but I always thought terriers were the only ones hand stripped! it's interesting that they are hand stripped too! who would of known! thanks for the info!

  • what a good dog! once again you did a great job! whats the difference between a pet cut and a show cut?

  • Good question. The pet cut is actually done with clippers and is kept shorter usually then a show cut. A show groom on a Cocker is actually hand stripped like your Terrier. :) That is one reason I wanted you to show me how to do it. ;)

  • This gives me a new appreciation for the job my dog groomer does. She charges me 80 bucks and it takes her about two hours.

  • Wow! Wish I could charge $80 for one dog!!! :) I charge about $30 for this type and size of dog!!! :D

  • Thank you so much for this video. It is very helpful to see how to do this. However, my cocker would have to be drugged to be so still for me! My ex used to do all the grooming and the dog would let him. Now it is just me and I am getting better at it, but he does not see me as the alpha dog at all! I tried having him done at petsmart...big mistake...they called me to come pick him up shortly after he got there. So I have been doing him myself. Back and sides I can do, ears and feet no. Help!

  • Hi, thank you for the reply back, I also have a few more questions... I tried getting my 10 wk to sit still while I tured on the clippers and he was not having it. What can I do to get my puppy to be calm and get clipped? Also can you recommend any clippers that are less then $100.00 for at home grooming?

    thank you

  • As far as cheaper clippers, no not really, if you want to do it at home for the life of your pet you will benifit from investing in a good pair of clippers. Mine run around 130.00. When you and your puppy are snugglin on the couch and he is tired take a mens shaver or something that vibrates like a clipper and just slowly introduce it to him/her. It takes time but at 10 weeks it should be easy to get your dog used to it. Just make it fun even use treats and stuff. Good luck! :)

  • I have a 10 week old, I am not sure if he is an English or Amercian Cocker, but his hair is really curly. He also has really long eye lashes, and whiskers, when shaving the face do you cute the eyelashes and the whiskers off?

    thank you for the videos

  • Ah very good question. Yes you do shave the face and trim the eyelashes. You don't want hair in the eyes as it causes eye problems in the long run. Even though the long eyelashes are cute they are bad for the eyes. Whiskers are usually cut off all breeds.

  • Thanks for posting these videos! I Have a 6 mnth old one and we can't afford taking him to a groomer every time he's gonna need one.... He's not very hairy yet, so when do you start giving them haircuts?

  • Even if you aren't trimming him yet I would get him used to the noise and vibration of the clippers. So when you are snugglin on the couch and stuff just take the butt end of the clippers and give him a massage all over just to desensitize him to it. For cockers I would focus on the feet and face areas. As far as when to trim you just have to use your judgement and trim when you feel he needs it. Definatly work with those clippers now though!!! ;) Good luck!

  • Two words.Fantastic job! Thanks

  • Two more! Thank you! ;)

  • Thank you so much for your video on trimming a cocker spaniel. I have a 3 year old dog I trim myself and this video has really really helped give me with some much needed pointers!!!! I found it nicely done and very imformative. Thank you for taking the time to help us novice cocker spaniel home groomers. You have saved Chase from being the funniest looking dog in the neighborhood. lol

  • You're very welcome! Glad I could help with Chases fashion issues... LOL :)

  • Hi

You should not use clipper on the back of the dog,use Thinning Scissors or stripper....

  • That is only true if you are grooming a show dog... this clearly says PET TRIM :)

  • Thank you so much for your video. I was able to groom my cocker with professional results. I bought an andis pro pet clipper, and other high quality tools. I already have saved money, and all my tools have paid off for themselves. The people in my area charge $65- 70 for a cocker. Again thank you very much.

Can you make a video on how to de-mat cockers?

  • I am glad you got your dog done and it looks good!!! I personally don't do dematting and I don't recommend anyone else do it either. It is painful and not necessary. I shave my own dogs when they get matted. ;)

  • I've taken my Cocker to the groomers and asked for a traditional Cocker cut and they left the front part of the chest with hair. Is it because she's a girl or just a wrong cut?

  • All Cockers should have some on the chest but just not too poofy for lack of better words. I blend off the neck/chest area but leave the bottom above where the leg meets the chest... does that make any sense? ;)

  • Yes, I understand what you're saying. It seems as if this particular groomer just does her line a little high as it starts right below where he collar sits. Thank you for your response!

  • yep sounds like it. I call that a hula skirt. LOL :D Thanks for your comments!

  • You are such a great groomer and he is such a good boy! I purchased a pretty nice set of clippers so that my husband and I can try to groom Abbers. We really don't want to take her to have very much done since she is highly nervous and scared with strangers since she was abused before we adopted her. I know that you're very busy but if you have any tips please let me know. She is ready to have her winter coat shaved off out here in California! Thank you again for all of your wonderful videos!
