I think 1M won't be remember 5 yrs from now, and the e90 M3 will grow to be something to be desired since it has the last of the NA V8. While e46 m3 is my favorite car in the series in terms of look and feel, e90's did not fall short from the M's heritage tree.

Listen the m3 is the benchmark for every new sports car. Look at the nurb times between the mustang and the m3. When the m5 came out every car maker wanted to out preform it. Cadillac's cts-v came out on the nurb and beat the old m5's time. But yet the new m5 beat the cts-v and the panamera turbo s on the nurb. It just shows that BMW sets the benchmark for almost everything.

@laptoph4x 100% agreed about Apple products. The M3 however is THE yardstick for sports cars. There's a reason for it. It's a track car, it goes around a track. The M3 costs more than a Mustang because it is superior in many ways. Mustangs have their place, straight line grunt. It costs much less to put a bunch of horse power on a car and call it good than to make a car handle superbly with 50/50 weight ratio and tons of luxury. Leather + Carbon Fiber vs Pleather + Plastic...

@craigmak there is a reason the mustang is the best and highest selling muscle car ever and thats because it has many trim levels, each one for a different duty. the GT is way cheaper and as i said before suspension modification would be all thats needed to take down a M3 and it would still be better dollar for dollar. but if you want to compare a different trim level mustang thats more capable out of the box look no further than the boss mustang, end of conversation M3=loose.

@craigmak point blank the new mustang is faster than the m3. the boss mustang has the same engine as the GT with a different intake and slightly different cam shafts, upgraded suspension over the GT. otherwise its basically the same car. for 2013 ford has some nice updates including launch control, G meter, 0-30 0-60, 1/8 mile time and 1/4 time, accelerometer, braking statistics, and access to all temp sensors in the instrument cluster 4'' lcd screen between the tach and speedo.

Trying to make it good at going around a turn is commendable.It will never do it as well as the M3. Adding token gizmos does not make the car luxurious or classy. The problem is that the Mustang and M3 are not similar vehicles nor are they meant to be. You are absurd for talking about Mustangs to BMW enthusiasts. We obviously have more refined taste than that.

@laptoph4x I did some research and found that the Mustang has made great improvements in the past few years. Going fast however is not the only thing a car does. It also provides comfort, luxury, quality and class(when applicable). A Lotus can beat an M3 but that doesn't make it a superior car. It's stripped down and looks insane. An M3 is the complete package of performance, handling AND luxury/class. The pony has performance and is improving handling but lacks luxury/class greatly.

he is wrong :-) The E46 M3 also had a straight 6 - that developed 343 HP :-) - the M3 CSL E46 even was360 HP - with no turbos. So a 1 series M-Coupe with 335 HP is not the Strongest. The "Automatic" in the E92 m3 is an Excellent Double Clutch Gearbox - the best variant of transmission ever.

BTW . I wonder about the clumsy name of the smaller Car - Why didn't they call it M135CSi - in remind of the legendary M635 CSi :-)
