@Hayao Vega can counter your moves, but Bison pretty much counters your thoughts. Son of a bitch knew everything you were about to do and made you pay for it. As long as you corner Vega, his cage climbing strategy can be controlled. He's still a cheap bastard, though.

@93bendzsi Meh, it really varies on which character you use. When I'm Ken I can easily own him, but melee characters like Vega.....meh.

Why The USA screwed the originals names???

@OreDaiyoWarioDaiyo They never screwed it up. It was changed in the US purposfully because Balrog japanese name M.Bison is a play on Mike tyson, the boxer. So to avoid being sued they changed the names.

@OreDaiyoWarioDaiyo they were afraid of getting sued over the Mike Tyson reference, and they also thought the name Vega for the final boss wasn't badass enough. but actually Vega is a hispanic name, so it seems like it would fit better with the spanish character. also, a Balrog is a shadowy demon from Lord of the Rings...it really does fit with a black boxer.

if I could have anybody power off of SFII it would be Balrog's his powers are strong but yet still human like. And he still can beat the shit out of fighters that throws fireballs or got some magic or gadget to help them. But his brains...NO! they made him so stupid when SFA3 came out so Tyson like SFII CE and Hyper and SSFII and SSFII Turbo and Movie show a better minded Balrog. My next pick would be Guile but without the hunger for revenge and the yelling BISON with my fist in the air thing.

@Plusquevie Ugh, this again? In Japan Balrog's name was Mike Bison. Capcom feared Don King would come after their asses so they gave the name M. Bison to the dictator who was known as General Vega, and the Spanish bullfighter was named Balrog (ironically because he's meant to be beautiful, when in mythology the Balrog is ugly) Anyway, this should make it easier the boxer in Japan is named Bison, the Dictator is named Vega and the bullfighter is named Balrog.

It's so nice to see Balrog finally getting some respect in Street Fighter 4 and such. I remember at the height of the Street Fighter 2 series, I waas the only person I knew that played with him and people seemed shocked that he was actually good. Years later, his dominance is evident. This song rules, also. One of the best in video games and Balrog's best theme.

People knew Balrog was a beast always, just local towns and kids didn't know. In fact most charge characters didn't get their dues. Like Vega and Bison~and everyone knows they are some of the best characters in SF2.

By the time Super Turbo came out, Balrog had already established quite a bit of dominance. Feel free to see any of the Evo final videos of the last ten years, you'll see boxer in there more than a few times!

@strikerk Yes, that's why I said "I was the only one 'I' knew", because local towns and arcades. Charge characters did get their due. So many people played with the likes of Vega, Bison, Guile, Chun Li, for example. Especially Bison, with his awful champion edition psycho crusher. CHEAP!

I've seen my fair share of "Evo Finals" in the last ten years. I know my stuff, sir. As far as the popularity of Balrog, I'm speaking of the years before that. It's documented Balrog wasn't appreciated, man.
