@zonkozonko - Right. That is what the video demonstrates.
Doing this kind of test on a huge machine like this is sort of silly to begin with. It would be more significant to stand coins on a smaller or lighter weight machine.
@MrMeanderthal What ever the weight of the machine its all about balance if one planer knife is lighter or heavier than the rest of the set ot will set the machine vibrating. cutters and cutter blocks must always be balanced.. If you fail to tighten one cutter and it comes out the machine will be dancing round the floor!
My motor is single phase, five horse, which spins at 3450rpm. The pulleys are equal size. I find the cutterhead speed to be just right. I use my jointer every day.
is this jointer 3phz? and do you know what hp, rpm...at the cutter? I just changed out (actually doing today) my 3phz 5hp motor for a 1phz 5hp 3450rpm 23amp......hoping its going to work right. I like the belt your using.. what kind is it? Regards, Ron from Mission.
It would take something along the lines of an earthquake to knock those coins over on that aircraft carrier! It probably weighs 4,000lbs!
Sweet machine though. Man would I love to have one in my shop!
Although getting it through my bulkhead would pose a bit of a challenge!!!

Love that jointer! Did you find that adding the segmented belt helped to reduce vibration?

Great looking piece of equipment, and I thought my old 3 phase Powermatic 12" was nice!

The jointer is a 20" Fay & Egan 316 Lightning. Is a Berlin similar? I have never seen one.

That's one nice "Berlin 199" you got there. :-)

What you do not explain is that this demonstrates the cutters are balanced change them for an unbalanced set and watch those coins fall over.

@zonkozonko not a chance.. that jointer weighs 1000 lbs..
