Yeah, I liked it better when you couldn't walk two blocks without tripping over a corpse, or being held at gunpoint and asked which way the "clinic" was. East Village used to have an identity, now it's just another overpriced hotbed for flaccid hipsters and almost ZERO risk of being slaughtered by machete. I remember a time when you'd be labeled "lucky" if all you got walking home from Ave A. was your hand chewed off by some feral zombie out trolling the "dinner" beat. Halcyon days of yore...
