When I was growing up in the Midwest my father was always talking about being tired of the cold ,well we moved to the Carolinas when I was 16 ,Boy O Boy what a change for the better at the time ,that was 25 years ago ,and I have lived and worked all over from Alaska to Maine to Texas, but I still go back on occasion and visit Dad,He is buried in the Carolinas, and I can still see the smile on his face on the day when we moved there , very nice memory ,Thanks Dad !
i'm not a NC native, but reside here now and have visited every part of the state and can say there's a part of the state for all. the mountains are exceptional all times of year, but compared to the rockies they're hills. the beaches are nice, but don't expect to find a strip with much of a night life. Charlotte, is nice if you want a major city feel. NC is gorgeous in spring and fall, a good place to raise a family or retire, an excellent place for collegiate options, and good for sports.
@duhdonutman I have lived in NC for all of my life. Sure they're are shortcomings but in the balance it's GREAT! I have never seen NC a winter like the one we have now. No snow, enough rain to keep the soil wet. We've got nearly every wild animal that's native to NC & from other places like coyotes. The county people told me they were here in abundance & plenty of deer for the hunt. Beaver, turkey, ground hogs, red tailed hawks, enoumous vultures & ravens as big as chickens. Wild life paradise
I shouldn't try to write while so verclumped, but my partner and I are packing now and putting our house on the market. I was born in NC and have always missed it. 50 years, Fla, Calif. and Oregon have been on my path back to North Carolina. I'm 72 now and I believe you can always go back home.
@mortardoc You need to get out more , take a road trip with a friend , to the coast ,to the mountains ,stop at a doadside stand in the mountains and buy some fruit , youll see :)
I grew up with James Taylor, but always "background music in preschool" kind of James Taylor. After seeing "Funny People", I started listening to him seriously. And now, he's one of my favorite musicians.
So thanks to those who got the joke and played along...and to those who didn't- hey, no disrespect.
North Carolina is the most beautiful state I've ever had the pleasure to spend 25 years in. I know no equal to her. I shall return one day to rest. Thank you for such a beautiful video.
the south is so much better than the the north. sorry fellas southern folk just got deeper soul dat's all. maybe ya'll come down here and melt away your blues
any one got some advice for a young struggleing artist cuz iv written a couple of songs myself and iv hit kind of a wall in my writting and need some advice and i want my music to be like it was back then cuz james taylor and cat stevens are like to of my favrite song writers and want my music to go in the direction they went in but not sure how to do that
This is one of those rare songs that nobody will dislike. You can play it for anybody, regardless of their taste, and chances are they will at the very least tolerate it...
@dgainey24 Well, James Taylor spent a good portion of his life living in the Triangle (Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill), so I'd say there's a good chance it's about North Carolina.
@dgainey24 He's singing about North Carolina where he grew up in Chapel Hill. He wrote the song in the late '60s while overseas recording for Apple Record and suffering from homesickness. This is why it seems like such a sweet song.
@tampathor = I'll keep good thoughts for you, I'm going home soon for Christmas, and when it comes time to leave it will be so hard, Carolina is always on my mind and in my heart
I must say I love the weather the most. Hot summers but not to hot like Florida Texas and California. 60s and 70s all the way into December. 60s and 70s as early as late February. and only a few snow falls in winter. Very few hurricanes come into the mainland. But when an ice storm hits, watch the fuck out!
Haha nice, two of my cousins live in that area, around the Ft. Mill/Rock Hill area. I live in PA currently, but I'll be back in SC ten days from now for a visit. I can't wait to go back!
Not sure if he ever gets tired of singing this song (or all of his other songs) or not, but I never get tired of listening to him sing. This is my all-time favorite song - you wouldn't understand unless you're from Carolina (North!) and have been away for a while. Great song, great singer, best memories.
I heard this song after a long time today. It brought tears to my eyes.It reminds me of the times i have away from my beloved N.C.I was born and raised in N.C. and moved away at the age of 24 to the d.c. area,i was sick almost everyday.
I really missed home. Then one day,i decided i had enough,i packed up and moved back after 10 years.Best desicion i ever made.
I will live here, and die here a true blue Tareheel.I will always be going to Carolina in my mind.

I thought he was actually one of the most prolific artists, though they are all somewhat repetitive, even the best ones. Look at all the his uploaded songs just on YouTube. . . Those were all major, major hits.
yea thats right i try to show my friends the better days of music and they want to have no part in it... but they are just blind to this era of awesomness, although, they all know stairway to heaven by zeppelin..... wow
The 11 people who dislike this song and video must never have been to North Carolina. Its one of the most beautiful states and so peaceful. After moving here from Florida 3 years ago I could never imagine leaving, I would miss it too much.
This reminds me of summer past when I was just a little kid. My dad would put this James Taylor album on, we'd have some friends over to swim, cook ribs on the grill, fireworks on the driveway. I can to know and love JT. The past couple years have been difficult for my family and we haven't had those summer night parties for a long time. For Christmas this past year, we gave my dad and mom tickets to one of the concerts. They literally had tears in their eyes. Thank you James.
@SapphireLabyrinth - We just moved to NC after three years in Phoenix following most of our lives in NJ. I hear you. I hope you find your way back someday.
I live in North Carolina, right at the bottom of the mountains. I'm only 16, but I know, I've always known that I'm never going to leave here. I'm going to raise my kids on the land I was raised on, and let them enjoy North Carolina like I did... like I am. Thank you, James, for letting everyone know that North Carolina is an amazing place.
I am a NC country gal temporarily stuck in Chicago. When I feel really homesick, and lonely, I play this song, and it makes me feel closer to my people and my mountains.
My friend drove the bus on the James Taylor Carol King tour. He said James Taylor is the same off stage as he is on stage. He said James Taylor is a kind, gentleman to everyone. He was so proud to have met James Taylor.
going to school in Albuquerque, and I love it here. But nothing can change the pride I have in my North Carolina home. In my mind, I'm always in Carolina
iHeard This On The Movie Funny People, And iHad To Find It To Hear It Again, He Has A Voice That Is So Unique. Who couldn't Like This? All iListen To Is Metal/Screamo.. But This Song Is Amazing. So What That Person Up There Said About This Song Bringing Generations together Is 100% True.
@led1071.,, may they always have Carolina in their minds,,,it's always in mine..live in Tn,, but my heart is in NC, especially now that Irene is making its way over the Carolina beaches , the good folks of NC are in my thoughts and prayers.
This song always makes me think of my uncle who passed away this summer ay 39. every summer our family would go down north carolina and he would be obsessed with surfing and every day we werent there, he would fantacise about going back and how good the next time would be, especially this year. Why did he have to go:( hopefully hes surfin those waves in carolina right now. R.I.P keith, until our next meeting...
The pictures for this video make the song even better. Some of them are really nice. Especially the one at 4:20 :) with the Sun shining in the forest and 1:30 with all the multi-colored trees. That looks like it could be in someones aquarium or on another planet.
If I saw someone litter in any place like these pics it would take a lot of restraint to not to put my hand through their head.
Im from Liverpool in the UK and just listening to this song makes me want to visit Carolina :) Went to see James in concert last month and he was amazing
omg i jus saw james taylor tues 12 jul in 02 in dublin full house wot a show jesus such a relaxed and unintimidating environment so calm and enjoyable i cud have stayed there forever wot an influence this man,s voice and stories have on people, u have to be there to appreciate but,, x x xjames wot a show
james taylor is one of my favorite artists, but when i talk about him to anybody outside of my family they're just like........who? and im thinking, how the hell can they NOT KNOW who james taylor is????? it pisses me off
@AnneEliz97 I agree with you. Teenagers these days have no taste in the old classic music such as this. I shake my head in disbelief. I am a teenager in Highschool and I am appreciative that my parents have introduced me to such classic music such as this. It opened my eyes and I can say that music such as this is more creative than computer generated beats that they use in rap crap. I WANT THE OLD MUSIC TO DOMINATE THE RADIOS AND TAKE OFF THE ANNOYING POP AND RAP
@REDSCOUT3 it pisses me off that there is only one station that plays the old classics, i can bearly pick it up on a good day and if my truck didn't have the old dial radio in it i wouldn't have found it
This song is the theme song for so many of myself and my friends. Born and raised in North Carolina and having spent many college summers in NC at camp this song is so perfect!

Beautiful video and singing. I am making plans to move to Asheville and can really understand how someone from North Carolina would miss it.

@AnneEliz97 You have been touched by the great James Taylor. Don't let it bring you down, your just more worldly than most. Another JT Fan.

I'm Dutch but when I was 5 months old we moved to NC, I lived there for 4 years and it may seem strange, but it was the happiest time of my life.
I miss it.
