It's so pretty and expressive... Wish I could do that. But there's probably no way- my parents made me quit dance when I was really small even though I was good at it and it's probably too late to start it up now... =/
Love It! This is what I call an album is.. And know what you can download the entire album for free at DownloadMusic/./im, just remove the slashes guys..
you're an amazing dancer, and this is an amazing song! I think this is one of those songs where you can just close your eyes, feel the music, and the moves just come naturally. You can really get lost in this song if you truly listen to it, and thats because of its simplicity. That's what makes it such a beautiful song to dance to. By the way, what style is this? Because I know the description says modern, but I thought it was contemporary? :S
wow is all I can say I love Alicia Keys... your a great dancer I love this video its so interesting to watch like your at a theater of artistic things... wow you should make more videos like this really I wanna see more
Everything you said below about the emotionally "young" dancers performing contemporary lyrical...I was thinking myself and totally agree with. It's an abomination and it makes me really concerned sometimes- because these young dancers are dancing choreography they probably could have never written themselves to music they don't understand yet.
I'm hearing so much more about dancers performing into their older ages and I think the depth and grace that this kind of maturity can bring is very exciting. This seems a little contrived and it can be a little disturbing to watch especially if their emotional subtext is totally off. What you have done with this piece is an example of truth and was a pleasure to watch.
Thank you so much for your very insightful and intelligent comments. I'm glad you see where I am going at with my comments about the state of modern dance and contemporary jazz today, as far as execution by youth.
Unless the young dancer is genius, there is always a "believe" factor missing from the dance and all we end up applauding is soley the mastery of the steps and sometimes the artistry of the choreographer), but not the artistic styling of the performer. Good luck with you and keep dancing! -Candicegetsdown2

Thanks for the great observation! Contemporary lyrical these days is so contrived. I see so many talented, real "young" dancers performing about mature subjects contemporary lyrical, clearly with hours of coaching, with choreography that is commonly styled
with choreography that is commonly styled in a fashion where it is move, move, fake contraction, preparation, -trick, walk walk walk, roll on floor, fake emotion, preparation, trick, -run, shiver, prep tilt with stacked hip & hold, leg down prep 10 fuerte turns, run in circle, end. Little do they know that in the professional dance world, they will never dance that way again on any professional job.
. . . cause it is too much of a liablility . . . Once we have "proven ourselves" we learn to dance in a way in which the music impregnates our soul, "moving through the step as one entire movement" as if no one is watching (and keeping a score card). Movement is an addiction, it is why we do it. Keep dance in your life. -Candicegetsdown2
Yes, I'm also a dancer....but I'm young yet, so I'm just learning....Last year I worked as a choreographer and dance teacher in my home dance group in Slovakia....I came to America 2 months ago, and started to study at Ballet school of Chapel Hill.....I really want to study and dance in my future...I love dance...Did you study a choreography?
So, cool to know that you are a dancer. In what Nation is Slovakia located? Maybe I can visit you and teach a workshop at your school! I studied choreography in College; however, I got most of my "style" and concepts of staging dance from actually working as a professional dancer. My personal style is jazz based with modern influences. However, I teach 8 forms of Jazz dance.
If you like this one, I am sooooo sure that you will love my Cain & Abel piece, Dangerously in Love, and Save Me . . . all on Youtube! LOts of love and keep dancing. Candicegetsdown2
Oh god, pretty beautiful, so emotive. This is one of my favorite songs, and is wonderful for me see how you can transmit the emotions. Congratulations =), you are an artist, with all his letters =).
Hello, MissLillium, I see that you love Alicia Keys! I'm glad that you like my intepretation of her beautiful work. I believe this song is a new rendetion of a song sung by Michael Jackson and Floetry aka "Butterflies." I choreographed a group piece of the MJ version years ago in 2001 - my first piece ever presented as a choreographer in NYC. One day, I might have the gutts to put it on YouTube. Thanks for the comments! -candicegetsdown2
Hello, this was performed at DanceSpace in New York City now known as Dance New Amsterdam. They recently changed their name. Are you talking about a performance space in California?
omg i loved this dance and i have always loved this song...ive been choreographing a dance and i have been searching for a song....and i think ive found the one please dont be mad at me for using it please give me your blessing....your dance was beautiful
O'kay. You can use this song for your choreo, but for a price . . . you must favorite this video, rate it 5 stars, and add my channel to your subscriptions list . . . Ha, ha . . . Have a good one. -candicegetsdown2
I love how you blend the conventional with the unconventional. It's definitely inspiring to see choreography like this and it makes me want to work harder on my own choreography as well. Thanks so much for sharing!
Hey, Shinto3, How cool of you to say that. At the time, this was such a little last minute diddy too. You know . . . after you leave the competition studios and conservatories, sometimes you just want to dance - its your love, your life, right!
Also, cool observation about the unconventional and the conventional. I'm all into emotion mixed with technique with minimal use of "dance tricks." I like to challenge myself in creating combinations with seemless flow and execution . . . where one step fits right with the next -movement to movement- without breaking into a trick for no apparent reason. Any leg extension are turn comes out of the movement and not for "show."
And, as far as "show steps" are concerned, most audiences don't understand the degree of difficulty of "show steps" anyway. So, I challenge myself to create seemless movement, a much harder thing to make impressive. And, with that said, I create for the audience, to make them feel what I feel, and never leave scratching their head.
Oh, thanks, aaliyaciafn! I always appreciate comments from people who are not into this type of movement quality. These comments really mean the most to me! Thank you so much!
Ms. Candice Franklin has mastered fluid movement in her choreography. She knows how to craft a piece that brings out the best in a dancer and plays close attention to the essence of the song when constructing her movements.
I enjoyed the dancer's execution and control throughout the piece.
Thank you, itookadodo, I'm glad it made you think about your sweetheart. This piece is about a feeling at its purest state and the beautiful bliss that someone special in your life can make you feel. That's what I wanted my dance to express. I'm glad that you liked it. Now enjoy your sweetheart!
You did this girl.. I love this song and I love the way you worked it. Continue to strive..
