Fantastic video! I did this trip with my grandfather and father many moons ago (third generation rail enthusiast ), I would love to do it again, pity those bastard have stolen most of her copper and brass fittings. Maybe one day spoornet will come to their senses and hand her over to a private organisation that will look after it, then all the world can enjoy this in person.
Love the video. Really admire this loco and the work that went into it. "The Red Devil, and other tales of steam" By Wardale is worth a read. Makes you understand what when into making the Red Devil the power house that it is. Here in Victoria Australia I volunteer at a tourist railway. The steam loco's we are currently restoring are being modified based on the Red Devil's principles. Should be great to drive/fire them....... And ride behind them
@alwhite666 I have red Wardale's book a few times - fascinating stuff. I now live in Victoria Australia - is it PB you are referring to, and the Lempor mods?
Not puff, though 6A is a great loco to ride behind. I'm up at the YVR at Healesville. Drop past on a thurs night (workshops night) and I'd be happy to show you (and any others) around. We're looking at updating J516 and possibly J541 when she arrives, however with J541 being an oil burner we're not sure how she'll react......Design work for the lempor for J516 has been started and should be fairly easy to do, Cheers, Al.

@Spalterbockl the Red Devil is out of action and in storage in Cape Town. One day we may see her in action again.
