as someone who has dealt with anxiety and depression for most of my life, the best thing you can do is stop watching the news. spend about a half an hour updating yourself with headlines during the day but don't fall in with any of the 24 hour news networks. And if you need something funny go on hulu and watch arrested development, it's probably one of the funniest shows of the past decade.
I watch MadTV, SNL, or The Onion clips on YouTube. Or comedians doing skits on Comedy Central. It really does relieve my stress. I used to listen to news and shows on politics, and it would just increase my anxiety and anger. I also avoid engaging with toxic people on the Internet. I used to let a**holes on the net get under my skin; I've learned to ignore them. All of these things have helped me. I'm proud of you for taking steps to meet your challenges! You're a good example to others.
I watch youtube puppy and kitty cute animal videos or funny videos whether I like them or not. It seems to help. Or I focus on working on pics and art on photoshop on my computer. I have super anxiety and PTSD from years of trauma unchecked.
Yeah , I end up watching a lot of true crime shows such as American Justice , North Mission Road , as well as others. I need to watch more comedy , but these shows have such a strong pull on me even though I am not sure watching them is good for my psychological health.
I've just browsed through some of them, and just want to share my opinion and say...the things I said. I'm in no way trying to offend you or put you down or take away from what you are doing, just too many people out there not thinking for themselves...and it's all glorified and over analyzed.
I appreciate people's opinions, I think it's important to share them. I think there are too many people who use SI as a stereotype (ie: emo), and glorify it by being graphic and supporting self harm. I think it's good for people to spread awareness without being graphic, it's always helped me to read about other's experiences, so I just thought I'd share my own here, that was my only motive when I set out making videos. :)
panic attacks aren't a disability...you didn't say what, exactly, is your mental illness that disables your life? If it's panic attacks then I feel sorry for you cause I've had them all my life and I don't throw pity party's all over the internet. It's something we have as people and can learn to cope with. PSYCHOTHERAPY. It's way better than drugs.
Why are you being negative nancy on all my videos? I have described in detail in other videos what my disabilities and mental illnesses are, and no it's not just social anxiety. I am sorry you have had to go through anxiety, I only started really struggling with that symptom about 3 years ago and it's really hard. I am in therapy, and not taking any drugs. I agree with you. None of my videos, btw, are a pity party.
The once a month thing is really dumb. No one can make progress in once a month. I hope you can find a therapist or counselor that you can see more than that. Luckily for me all of my counselor's I've been able to see once a week or sometimes even twice a week.
Hey. I just found your videos and this is the second one I've watched (the other one was your self-injury support site) so excuse me if I sound ignorant to your situation because I really don't know much about you at all.
With the therapy... once a friggin month? That's basically pointless unless you're in recovery or doing relatively well (which I'm not sure if you are or not as I don't know you.. lol). I wouldn't stand for once a month appointments. Fortnightly at the minimum!
Yeah, the therapy IS only once a month at best. If I am lucky it's once every 3 weeks. I had a month and a half span this time around, and that was RIGHT after they put me on new meds. It's SO unprofessional. :( I am not in recovery, not really no, so it doesn't do a bit of good!
btw dont let that asswipe make you feel bad about not working.. i watched your other vids and commented on my similar problems with keeping a job so i can relate. i wish i could get disability... it would probably pay more than my crappy job does anyway : ) keep your head up honey its all going to be alright.
Aww what a sweet dog. I awwed out loud. That'd be interesting though, "Despite your panic attack during the evaluation, based on color of clothing you wore, you're denied benefits, I hate blue." Wouldn't put it past the government to do something like that. Hope you're having a good time at your parent's house.
'had it in the bag?' Sounds like you like being unemployed huh? Get a grip! Try a lil self esteem honey! what do you have to be so damn down on your self for? Either slit yer wrists and get it over with or get outta that damn house by yourself and do something with some people that think your valueable, and take a few tips from them!!!
There's no way that I can just ignore this comment...where the hell do you get off saying shit like that to someone? If you don't like it don't watch it, cause I can assure you that pretty much anyone else who watches Christie's videos regularly is pissed off after reading your comment.
Thank you for sticking up for me, 87blahh87, i appreciate it. Some people really don't get it - and they analyze things to death, and then don't understand and try to twist my words. I needed to be approved for my disability again, so "having it in the bag" was an offhand comment but it's true, I NEEDED it, so it was a good thing not an underhanded thing. Anyway, thanks again.
No prob, any time :) I just really hate when people judge others without knowing or understanding. It's just ignorant, so I couldn't knowingly let that happen. On a lighter note, I hope you had fun with your doggy this weekend :)
had it in the bag was an expression I used based on how MORTIFIED I was at what happened when I had the actual evaluation, if you watched that video you would know. If you watched ANY of my videos you would know I do not LIKE being unemployed, which is due to a mental illness which I have a hard time controlling. How DARE you talk to me like that, if you don't like me then don't watch my videos, pretty simple concept. Don't put words in my mouth, YOU need to try a little TACT honey!
I am house sitting for my parents. In a big house. I usually live in a small apartment, so I was just saying that it's a weird adjustment at the moment :P
I LOVE Rob and Big! How could you think it's not funny??? Ha ha ha, they're so cute together! Maybe you just saw a bad episode. Anyway, your dog is cute! She looks like an Ewok!
im surprised you're not on antidepressants yet. Im from the UK and treating my depression with SSRI antidepressants. They work wonders, and you dont need to be on them for ever.
your dog is gorgeous! im getting one this summer, but haven't decided on a breed yet. What are shih tzu's like as pets?
yes i do agree with you and the once a mth thing and shit by the time you see her you have so much that has happened its pointless and also maybe its the insurance that only covers it once a mth i know I had that happen when I was in substance abuse treatment I am addicted to vicodins and somas and the man tells me to write in a journal and see ya next mth and try to go to some group meeting well I stopped that crap lol. How did the social security thing pan out hear anything yet? I mean ssi bye
Thanks for the update, i'm glad your disability was renewed. Your dog's a cutie, and I definately laughed about the Walmart photographer thing haha it's so true :P I hope you have a good weekend!
Have you ever had your vitamin b12 levels checked? I have a defiency and my depression gets pretty bad without it I have monthly injections and it has changed my life...there are many symptoms including mood changes and rapid heart rate.
I actually haven't ever had my b12 levels checked. I have had blood work but I am sure they didn't check that. I will ask my doctor when I go in next week about it. Thanks for the suggestion, I appreciate it. :)
It does make a big difference to me and esp my moods...it should be a standard thing they test for, because it is more common than people think...I love your videos btw :)
I've heard about the b12 as well- I know sometimes I have depression issues and I find that when I take a multivitamin (and it does have b vitamins in it) regularly I do feel better.
Also, Exercise is great cause it promots the production of dopamine and endorphins- which makes you happy.
