  • a system file got deleted or CPU overheating

  • @h98889 - so you mean i'm making this up or what?

  • lol!

  • ...funny... maybe this already was Window's hidden ad seen on that screen ... Just nobody knew... Never been on an airport... What is supposed to be there on that screen?

  • @biggestkrisfan - something similar to the other screens around it: arrival / departure time schedules and related info ...

i've said it elsewhere already: this i blame more on the person in charge of the computers and displays though, rather than on Windows itself, especially because Windows (like all other OSes) never gives anyone any guarantees to work fully flawlessly all the time, does it? :)

  • I use Linux Ubuntu, Linux Mint, PC-BSD , and Windows 7...

They all work better than XP... Windows XP is old as crap...

  • @maw88ify - crappier than XP is the concerned LAX management who's so careless about the situation! :) i used AmigaOS a lot (and occasionally now too) and i agree Linux is great but haven't got much time to try it more yet. don't know PC-BSD. haven't tried Win7 except for a few minutes. to me though, Vista and 7 sound more like having only cosmetic changes over XP . nothing really useful there and if i get a new 64bit system i'd rather have XP installed (too) as i'm quite used to it now.

  • @dadautube I'm using Windows 7 64bit... Waited with buying the new PC until Viesta had gone...

  • @biggestkrisfan - but most changes made to the Windows 7 (as in Vista also) are cosmetic ones rather than truly evolutionary. of course, they can always come up with certain codes there that newer versions of programs or games and other apps will require to be present in the system to run properly, and then people have no other way but to upgrade to a whole new hardware / software combo, OS-wise that is. and surely when old computers die of use, then one has to buy new stuff no matter what ...

  • @dadautube Ya, I fully agree, I also had to buy another video grabber, have to download drivers all the time and some of my familar and beloved software don't run with 64bit Windows7, that's annoying...

  • @biggestkrisfan - well that's the price one has to pay for major upgrades anyway. if you really need 64-bit structure (i do, for more memory at least) then you have to cope with that. best way is, keep your old computers / OSes intact if you can, use them for regular jobs and then go ahead with the upgrade on the side, gradually until the day you can truly switch, by which time, Microsoft will be selling you yet another OS though, and forcing you to upgrade as ever! ;-) tired of this routine! :(

  • @dadautube ya, that actually is what I'm doing, the old pc still stands next to the new one and if I can't use the new pc for something I just change the pc by replacing the plug for the screen... I just bought the new pc because of the main storage...

  • @biggestkrisfan - why don't you use something like a KVM monitor / keyboard / mouse switcher unit, which lets you change computers (up to at least 4) by using only a single mouse / keyboard / monitor at the same time. there are various types available.

just type KVM in your search engine and follow the links or go to a local computer hardware store and ask for help. i've used various models of different sizes at home and at work and they're good.

  • @dadautube Ya, one day I'll buy it... a new fridge first, then a new tv, and then new equipment... it's all a matter of money...

  • @biggestkrisfan - yes, my problem here 2: money! ("It could be funny, in the rich man's hands!" ;-])

KVMs aren't that expensive though ...

  • @dadautube You are sooo right, man. Yah, I'll check this KVM out, thanks for telling me.

  • @biggestkrisfan - u'r welcome. something like that is worth every penny spent indeed as it saves you not only precious time in the trouble of switching between computers by having to turn them off first and replug, but also from damaging your valuable equipment, not to mention desk and room space too ... good luck with your KVM experience and just let me know if you needed any help! :)

  • should have used Linux or something?

  • may be ...

there is no "perfect" OS out there and most, even those that far surpass Windows in reliability and overall performance (leanness in particular!) do happen to have their own issues after all anyway; but when Windows 'pushes' itself to be on 'top' in the market and then it doesn't deliver, that's when people start thinking ...

some government organizations have upgraded from Windows 98 to Windows XP only recently! good job they did not jump on the Vista bandwagon after all ...

  • well, that's Windows XP man: no blue screen of death - yet, but wait and that may happen too! ;)))
