Nikkafan I dont think I want to see one that close. I think a good place to start to help would be the Lakota and Navajo reserves. Build them up and make them strong again. Get jobs in them to make them self suficient. Then help the others.

I was recently in the USA and visited Pine Ridge - the tourist guide said that 'hardly anybody bothers to make a visit there'. At Big Bats we were directed to the Red Cloud School, which looked so inspirational that I am considering becoming a regular donor. My prayers are with the people on the Reservation, that they may have better lives.
I grew up around the Lakota, I have made some very good friends over the years with some of them. Pine Ridge is the poorest reservation of all and their young people are pretty much lost to gangs, drugs and alcohol. Parents who party and don't care have passed on a legacy that was never meant for a very noble people. They seem to have lost their spirit in many ways. I pray that somehow the Lakota people will stand proud again some day soon.

Sadly their education system on the reservation in question is ridiculous. Many of them drop out before 6th grade. They would not be able to read. Go and work with them. The great Oglala people were once independent and survived and thrived through their own intelligence and knowledge of nature. It is all around you. the houses you live in, the cars you drive, the primary language you speak, the things you eat, the things you think, everything around you now, and in the future is white culture...to include the alcohol that you allow to poison your body. I was recently in the USA and visited Pine Ridge - the tourist guide said that 'hardly anybody bothers to make a visit there'. At Big Bats we were directed to the Red Cloud School, which looked so inspirational that I am considering becoming a regular donor. My prayers are with the people on the Reservation, that they may have better lives.

I grew up around the Lakota, I have made some very good friends over the years with some of them. Pine Ridge is the poorest reservation of all and their young people are pretty much lost to gangs, drugs and alcohol. Parents who party and don't care have passed on a legacy that was never meant for a very noble people. They seem to have lost their spirit in many ways. I pray that somehow the Lakota people will stand proud again some day soon.

Sadly their education system on the reservation in question is ridiculous. Many of them drop out before 6th grade. They would not be able to read. Go and work with them. Tell them why the book is so amazing. I'm being serious here. They are amazingnd wonderful people and I look forward to being with them any and every chance I get. I correspond with them when I can't be with them.

As a white person I can say that "our culture" is broken.The biggest problem with Americans of all colors today is that the Native Americans are invisible to them. I don't know how else to say that, it just is the way it is. We can thank the history books for that. I am not sure there is time to change that perception. I hope people will make an attempt to change it because it is a shameful travesty what has been done to the Native Peoples of this country.

I do have a solution for us natives. It involves us coming together as indigenous peoples of North and South America and breaking off from the governments and taking care of each other in the old way. We have the resources now, we need strong leaders that won't get that money sickness. Greed makes us so weak.
