  • And the interviewer seems to be well educated and very smart. . . By the way he talks and he expresses his questions and forming his opinions, it's just so interesting to watch!

  • I wish all interviews were like that. Essential and to the point. Not "how are you, are you excited blah blah blah..." . You actually get to learn from discussions like that and also, that's the point of this business. Not publicity and all that, just work and what you've managed to produce from all your hard work. I've actually understood the film a lot better by watching these interviews with Darren and Natalie and I can only appreciate it even more!

  • Well well...In the past I used to pictured Darren as a hot-headed, over-obsessed filmmaker (judging from Rourke's prescriptive). But as it turns out, he's actually pretty down to earth. Makes me wonder how his attitude changes when directing one of his own features. O.O

  • There were a lot of special effects for the movie...especially "towards the end." Which one are they talking about?

  • I love this interviewer

  • This interviewer is phenomenal. Keep up the good work :)

  • Great interviewer. He actually likes film, you can tell. Most interviewers know the bullshit that Hollywood coughs out. You have to be intelligent to be able to talk to Darren though, otherwise you're not worthy.

  • Wow. This interviewer asks pretty good questions. Very unique.

  • everybody is gonna hate me for that but it's true so : Darren A. has no respect and no knowledge for ballet ... his movie is an insult to the ballet world and he shouldnt be talking about stuff he doesnt know ... BS was well made and all but no

  • @FyreBalletDancer if he didn't respect ballet why would he do a movie about it? Do you think Steven Spielberg knew everything about the Holocaust when he made Schindler's List or about WW2 when he made Saving Private Ryan? My sister does ballet and she was so pleased that finally a film about ballet was made, its brought the art form into the forefront and after watching it i've asked my sister to teach me ballet because i think its incredible. Just be content that a dance film has done well!

  • @rumneet and how can you think ballet is incredible ? BS doesnt show anything about it since it is just a bunch of lies ... good luck by the way, i hope you wont be disapointed by the lack of sexyness in your "ballet training"

  • @FyreBalletDancer Benjamin Millepied is professional ballet dancer, so your saying what he did in the film wasn't professional ballet dancing? You can moan about Natalie all you want but Benjamin all the extras dancing in that film were professional dancers.

  • @rumneet yeah i know who he is ... so ? i never said he didnt dance professionally in the movie, i said Natalie didnt, because a year of "intensive training" isnt enough ... Sarah Lane did her dancing scenes but i never talked about BM ... i know Benjamin can dance but what's your point ?

  • @FyreBalletDancer "how can you think ballet is incredible? BS doesnt show anything about it " i'm guessing the "it" is ballet - u made it sound like they didn't do any ballet dancing. Natalie may not have done 85% of the dancing, but she definetly didn't do 0% you seem to have accepted Lane's words as gospel, has it occured to u that maybe she is the one that is lying? Do u think if the film had failed she would have said anything? I doubt it!!

  • @rumneet NP did the above-waist scenes. & still for those, her arms were stiff & her shoulder placement was akward. nothing agaisnt her but like i said, noone can be a good or even average dancer after a year of work ... i dont take Lane's work for gospel but i've been dancing for a while now and i trust my own eyes. the diffrence is so huge i found it easy to tell that Lane did the dancing parts. and yes, there was ballet dancing in the movie (from Lane) but BS doesnt show what ballet is

  • @FyreBalletDancer well i thought her dancing was lovely, im not ballet dance expert but i didn't find any of it awkward or stiff, even my sister who has been dancing for a decade said she thought she danced well, of course she isn't going to dance like Darcey Bussell, but for the amount of training she did she managed to pull it off and for novices like me who don't sit and scrutinize her every movement she looked like a ballerina, even if it was just how she physically looked.

  • @rumneet i'm sure her dancing was believable to the general public and like i said, the cgi and eveything was well done ! they all did a great job. but i still dislike Darren and the movie for it's image of the ballet world...

  • @FyreBalletDancer that's funny because my sister said Black Swan actually portrayed ballet in a positive light, the friendships and relationships the girls have in that movie isn't what you'd have in the real ballet world. Also when Nina falls down during her performance in the end and the girls come running to ask her if she is ok - my sister said that would NEVER happen, because the ballet world is so competitive and so few are at the top, they'd probably be glad if their competitor fell!

  • @rumneet since she's ur sister i totaly get that u take her word for gospel but seriously what school did she go to?? 1st, i didnt see any friendship in BS, second of all, if she has ever been to, or even watched the Prix de Lausanne (biggest ballet competition in the world) she would never say that! evryone is so suportive and friendly even if they dnt speak the same language! how can she say that? wat school taught her ballet like that? watch backstage vids of (real) ballet if u dnt believe me

  • @FyreBalletDancer

First off, I want to say that I know nothing about ballet. However, I've seen the Black Swan. I don't believe that the way Darren portrayed was in direct connection to the profession of ballet dancing but much greater to a personal experience. The movie was speaking about the personal misery in trying to achieve perfection in any profession and becoming apart of it by being known and famous. He put characters like Lily (Mila) who were relaxed about ballet to contrast Nina.

  • @cblazek23 relaxed about ballet ? thats a funny one. the ballet training is harder than anything you've ever done in your life and NOONE would go through all of that blood-sweat-tears to be uncaring about the luck and amazingness of being a part of a known company like NYCB. Lily is as implausible as Nina and btw, there's no way in hell that any company or school or anything would allow the tatoo that she has ... it's random but it shows how DA'S portrayal isnt one.

  • @cblazek23 and i gladly agree/believe that he was talking about perfection in general but for the characters that he created he couldnt have chosen a worse world than the ballet one to put them into ...

  • @FyreBalletDancer I have know way of knowing what Darren's opinion on ballet is - however, when one of the most talented film makers of all time does a film involving ballet, it is not an insult. It is a huge gift to the ballet world to have Darren feature the art in his work. Darren Aronofsky is not just another film director. He is on par with Stanley Kubrick and John Cassavetes. His films will live forever.

  • @CenyddRos i disagree. to me, portraying a ballet dancer as an anorexic slutt with no self-esteam and a weak personnalty is not a "huge gift to the ballet world" ... if it isnt an insult the the real ballerinas i dont know how to call it. and i'm not even talking about all the lies he made about NP's dancing. He lied by implying that she could dance after only a year of "intensive training", that is a huge disrespect to those who live 20 years of blood sweat and tears to be great dancers no ?

  • WHO is this reviewer?! He is so engaging!

  • darren aronofsky is sexy, for some reason, i just think he is.

  • man, this interviewer makes a lot of other ones look like shit. if you are lucky enough to interview someone like darren aronofsky, I would expect to see that kind of dedication. awesome interview all around!

  • 13:25 there's a lot of shit stuff come along... LOL

  • it's nice that his name is written the slavic way up here :d

/God bless you, intelligent guy xd

  • does anyone else think he looks like christian bale?

  • @PennyLane298 Yep. He looks and sounds a lot like him here.

  • he asks alot of questions about the person themselves which is good instead of just about the movie

  • you misspelled aronofsky.

    great interview though ;)

  • I like how Aronofsky was about to say s*** at 13:27.

  • The interviewer is so passionate and has paid such attention to detail. Fantastic. Very special.

  • Great interview, the questions were very refreshing from other cliche ones

  • Christopher Nolan and Darren Aronofsky are the best film makers of the contemporary age within the Hollywood system

  • I love watching these interviews. This guy is definitely one of the best interviewers out there. Thank you for posting these!

  • doesnt Mr. Aranofski look kinda like Christian Bale?

  • @corean3polar yes yes thats exactly what was i thinking, the way he talks and moves his mouth is the same as bales lol

  • I've seen Drew McWeeny doing multiple interviews, to which he is very good at, but this is the first time I've seen him without the beard and looks remarkably different. Black Swan is a masterpiece, anyway.

  • The interviewer is amazing, subscribing for sure.

  • this is all brilliant.

  • Kudos to the interviewer. He actually knows what he is talking about and he has done his research. That is rare. In terms of Darren Aaronofsky, the man is a brilliant visionary.

  • i was cowering in my theater seat for like... half of the movie.

  • I could eeeeeasily watch this again...no matter how stressful it was to sit through

  • About to say shit lol 13:25

  • I loved the film but thought it was WAY, WAY too grainy, but that might have been because I was in one of the front rows.

  • @mackjr72 It was shot on 16mm which is grainy, particularly when it's projected onto a large screen in a theater. It helps add to the documentary feel he was discussing in this interview.

  • I'm guessing Darren never saw the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. That was 16mm and handheld and very documentary styled.

  • @Pwells1 Yeah, I guess he was just thinking of more contemporary horror movies or something. The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Last House On The Left were so effective because of their grainy, documentary style.

  • I really liked the way that the movie was shot and the actors were amazing but i don't really get the point of the movie... i mean yes it's about the change that nina is going through... starting with being a sort of little nice controlled girl and than experimenting her "dark side" the one about pleasure and freedom... But i don't understand why the director decided to go for a horror movie style... Anyway I enjoyed it and I really loved Natalie Portman acting in this one!

  • @mscheio Maybe this will help. what i got out of the movie was that all these stars and famous people we take for granted to impress us, the movie was showing how much they have to put themselves through physically and mentally to go through their lives to be an entertainer. it really hit me hard in the end of the film when she jumped on the mattress and everyone was cheering her name, it was terrifying because we only see the moment's they train for and never see behind the curtain so to speak.

  • @dillon1993100 Thank you very much!!!

  • Ya really great interview. You can tell the interviewer knows what he's talking about, and in turn he gets Aranofski to really get into the depths of why he made this film. I also like when Aronofsky goes "there's a lot of shi-, stuff going on" at 13:30. lol.

  • Dude, awesome interview. This is exactly what I was looking for. Im subbing.

  • this director is a genius. i mean AMAZING. this movie is the best thing i have ever seen. this guy inspires to be GREAT and do OUTSTANDING work like he does. if this doesn't win awards, and i mean ALL the awards that it is nominated for, the world is undoubted an UNJUST place.

this film moved me to unmentionable levels.

FANTASTIC JOB to EVERYONE involved in this brilliant film.

  • Wow, an intelligent interview. These are rare, good job!

  • This is a great interview! Great questions were asked and not the typical "press" questions.

The film is amazing and IMO Aronofsky is a genius filmmaker.
