Compliments on your choices of music to accompany your videos! Very cool indeed! You have a knife collection any man would envy. Great taste in blades, my good man.
hey nitwitbeer love wat you do:) i was wondering if the cold steel scimitar was big like in diamiter cause i cant have a to big knife my biggest is a navajo of 7 inches:)
ive watched this video at least 5 times but just now noticed that u hav a SPYDERCO YOJIMBO in their. if u stil hav it, can u ppplllllzzz!!! make a review 4 it or atleast a more indepth look.
I really don't have many tanto blades and actually prefer a drop/clip point or reverse tanto plain blade. Tanto are great for pierce or thrust cuts and with thicker blades can sometimes be used for prying. With more experience I have learned what I prefer so I suggest purchasing and trying different designs, steel, manufacturers. Variety keeps things interesting =)
I'll research a knife and read reviews or videos get interested in one or several and look for it locally or just price hunt for a reputable dealer online.
I purchased a lot from them early on. I like to try other manufacturers like spyderco and benchmade specifically who have recently earned a lot of my business. I'm still interested in other knife makers and thankfully there are a lot of great choices for us consumers. I'm loyal to none!
WongKonPow - thanks. not sure how much I have invested in them so far. I use my less expensive knives all the time. And for $100 or less you have a lot of great knives available.
What do you think about your cold steel knives? I was thinking of getting the voyager large but can't decide on the clip point or the tanto. The extra large looks way too big to be a pocket carry
iamarockgod666 - I haven't touched the voyager in months. It's obviously large for pocket carry and have only carried less than a dozen times. Inexpensive knives with ok quality with a lot of variety. They would not be my first choice to suggest to others. Around the same price point you can check out SOG Spyderco Benchmade etc.
I had to add padding otherwise the smaller ones will move around in the case. I like my smaller size case's better but the large case holds more of the less frequently used knives and basically never moves around.
Go with the SOG Trident and stay away from the SOG Flash. I usually use my SOG arc and Benchmade axis lock folders more then my assisted openers. Easier one handed operation and less drama when opening and using in front of "sheeple" who think switchblade when seeing them. However I use/carry the Trident a lot. I'd first look @ Benchmade Axis lock knives then take a look at SOG's arc locks.
Nope. Often thought and planned on though. I purchased a few books years ago and have a HP grinder but never proceeded but someday. Having a few knives has allowed me to narrow down my likes/dis-likes so when I create my own I can incorporate those features.
Hi there what do you think of Kershaw knives, I was thinking of getting a small knife, i saw a kershaw blur knife and that seems to be the one I want, can you reccomend it at all ? it is made of 420hc steel, so what kind of sharpener should i be looking to buy. thanks
I don't own any Kershaw blades but the Blur and some of their knives are similiar to SOG assisted openers. The 420hc steel wouldn't be my first choice but should sharpen easily on a regular stone. Plenty of choices of sharpening options with stones, rods, diamond sharpening systems etc. My usual touch-ups are done with a Spyderco Sharpmaker.
hey nitwitbeer ive been really into SOG and Benchmade knives lately i just got the Benchmade nitrous sryker and i absolutely love it and i saw the Benchmade rukus on ur vid and it looks like a really nice and sturdy knife would you recomend it?
I would definitely recommend the knife. It is very well made and is very smooth. I like the handle design as it is one the best fitting knives that I have. Easy opening/closing with AXIS-Lock. I prefer larger size folders but have to admit sometimes I wish I purchased the smaller 615 Rukus...but only for a minute ;)
The clip with the 610 kind of annoys me when handling the knife and for a time I removed it completely. It's one of those knives that won't get lost in a pocket but I still use the clip.
I have several different types. Most are either pistol or rifle/shotgun cases. I also use knife rolls for small folders. Cabela's Online sells several as well as my local sporting good stores. The pic in the video is a cheap Doskocil double rifle plastic case, does the job but quality is close to non-existant.
I have heard good things with the DMT products. A lot of products are available as well as opinions on what works best. There is some good information on knifeforumsDOTcom and bladeforumsDOTcom and also search Youtube for sharpening vids to see how others fine tune their knifes. Mine usually need minor touch-ups which I use the sharpmaker for incl kitchen knives and tools. I also use various stones and a leather strop with different compounds for the final polish
It certainly can be expensive but there are plenty of good quality/value knives out there. The majority of knives in the videos are just a few years old. I've always had knives but started to appreciate better made knives after owning countless disappointments throughout the years.
I've used a sharpening stone, rods, sandpaper and other tools. I have been mainly using a Sharpmaker using the UF,Fine,Medium triangle rods. Then use a leather strop to finish the polished edge. Some like their blade to have a little bite and not polish their edge. I sharpen different knives with different edges but I'm always left impressed with a polished razor edge that is 'scary sharp'.
I should also add that I've picked of some great tips from forums such as BladeforumsDOTcom and KnifeforumsDOTcom. I agree there seems to be a lack of good sharpening videos during a recent youtube search.
I agree 100% on the lack of sharpening vids. I have been told soo many different stories as to whats best. I just need to learn to get mine to the scary sharp level and I'll be fine :) Right now Im toting an SOG Flash2 black tanto as my learner. So any advice is wellcome.
I've seen different opinions on specific sharpening systems but a good technique with a stone will provide great results without spending a lot on the sharpening systems. I'm hesitant on preaching any system in general. But it's a lengthy topic at times and I'll send you some sites to visit PM.
hmm I like the SOG twitch II , do you know if theres a difference between the regular twitch II and the black tie version, (I think i just found my new knife)
It's a Twitch II Black Tie. It's been discontinued and differs only in color with the regular Twitch II. I also have a Twitch XL which is similar only larger. Probably use the smaller Twitch II more often, it's size is nice and keeps out of the way with a pocket clip.
I recently purchased a SOG Trident tiger strip TiNi and it should be coming in the mail in a few days. How do you like the Trident since you've owned it? Any flaws? Any regrets? What particular features do you like about the knife and would you recommend it? How sturdy and durable is it? Thanks a lot!
Very light, bayonet style clip sits low in pocket, SAT opening, arc-lock. I wish it had strong liners on the knife to prevent side to side play. Overall feels great in hand, firm grip with extended thumb rest on blade. I always prefer better steel but AUS8 is up there. Nice knife especially if price is right.
Wouldn't say wiggles, that to me means a lot of movement. It is ever so slightly, just a fraction. I scrutinize the blades probably more than most. The pivot screw can be torqued more but it affects the action of the opening/closing. I keep mine tight and back off slightly when it affects the action.
As I understand UK limits these knives so your location may present ownership/purchasing/shipping difficulties. Pricing will always vary on where when who so just research online shops and ebay.
î've got three knives and expecting one: i have a SOG flash 2, spyderco endura 4(new version)and a kershaw ET, i'm expecting my SOg x-ray vision, i can't wait
Nope. SOG factory sharpness is sharp. The best factory sharp blades I have received in new knives came from Benchmade. Each company offers complete sharpening service for the life of the knife for a cost. Most owners I know sharpen themselves and even "fine tune" a brand new knife with their own custom edge. Bladeforums and Knifeforums have great info
I currently own the Sog Flash II. It is amazing! I want to buy the sog Topo Meridian. Amazing knifes. But, i heard that the blade is so strong, that people are having a tough time sharpening them. Is there any truth to that? if so, whats another worthy choice?
Premium steel (s30v etc) holds an edge longer and if it becomes dull will take longer to reach razor sharpness. Just fine tune the edge when needed that all it takes. Neglect it and you'll spend more time sharpening. For SOG folders I am using my spec-elite and trident often. Spyderco endura is used a lot as well. I try to switch up weekly with my knives.
I just got my Byrd Cara Cara Black Comboedge today from ebladeknifes and I wanted to see a video of it and I guess this kinda counts cept that mine is black. Well thanks.
its all bout SPYDERCO i've got the same endura as yours as edc and a serrated foliage green one, i have a spyder military and i have the cara cara coming in the mail now it was alot cheaper than the other spyders what do you think of the cara cara?? its not small isit but is it sharp?? for fixed blades i own some big spanish fuckers but my personal fave is my crkt hissatsu one mean M.F
that's a very impressive collection you've got yourself. what do you think of the cold steel triple action? i'm thinking of getting one. its a bit expensive so if its a peice of shit i dont want to waste my money.
iamarockgod666, thanks. I wouldn't go so far as to call it a P.O.S. but definitely not worth their selling price on their site @ $145. I paid substantially less than that about 2 years ago. The triple action knife is more of a novelty knife for fun and doesn't see and 'real' duty. The grip is a little slick to which I added grip tape which helps. Still a fun little knife that I'm glad I purchased, just that I have others I use more often. thanks!
... well, now i have it. It's huge! And it was so freakin' sharp that when i was wiping some lint off the blade it sheared though my shirt and into my thumb!
VicariousReality7, ya the knife is a real bruiser =). I was astonished when I first received it. Like most of my knives I purchased sight unseen, mostly just knew information of the knife(s) through fellow owners. Glad the vid helped and good luck with future purchases!
ps lynn thompson is a douche and his knives suck. Whats up with doin away with the lifetime? Im gonna go sell my kuckri on e before it breaks and chops my foot off.
they are VERY reliable, minus that first gen hunk of shit which is one of spydercos saddest models ever produced. I totally recomend a calypso jr zdp(super steel) for an edc. You can get em on ebay for $70. Its a perfect sized flat grind that glides through anything. The other great thing about 99% of spydercos is that they have awesome finger protection when you hold it properly. And for the hole, its one of the greatest inovations in the history of folding knives.
I am not a fan of the thumbhole either but i think i'll get a delica. Benchmade Rocks though, they're Made in the USA sharp and their axis lock is incredible.
if you don't already, you should get some gerber knives. they are a good quality and don't necessarily cost much, personally, i carry a gerber paraframe 2 for everyday.
You should get a gerber profile, they are cheap but good. Other than that, get a cold steel tanto and a buck nighthawk (two of the most durable knives you'll find).
Thanks a lot for the feedback. I've been doing a bit of research on the knife, and not many customers are satisfied with it, saying it doesn't stand up to much and the handle wears after just a short time. I've since been looking for the Fred Perrin model, but no progress yet (not only that, but from the looks of it, it's a very expensive knife)
Very good collection! Actually, I´m trying to buy a Sog Trident Folding Knife, just like yours, but here in Brasil they ask for 200 dollars for it! I think I´m gonna import it from USA.
And what do you think about the Trident Folder, nitwitbeer? Is it a good folder? Should I buy the TigerStripe blade or the Black TiNi blade?
I already have some SOGs, like the Seal 2000 and the Seal Pup.
Thanks. So far I've posted about 15 different brands with several manufacturers within. I do have other vids besides this. Also many knives haven't made their debut yet =).
Win the lottery or something? Geez.... Do you recommend the Cold Steel Triple Action Knife? I'm thinking of investing in one, and I want an owners' opinion on it. Also, can you tell me the name and artist of your background music? Thanks a bunch.
Thanks. The Cold Steel Triple action a neat knife and has accumulated a few nicks from hitting handle when closing. Not a real duty knife for me. When open it lacks good traction for grip. I've since modded it a few times with solutions of grip tape and plasti-dip applications. Don't regret the purchase but would at Cold Steel's retail price. Aphex Twins - Violin Solo
what do you think of the SOG Flash's overall build quality? Is it worth it to go for a Benchmade 710? I have a Flash 1. What do you think about the lack of bushings/liners?
I like the SOG flash a lot, I've had 2. The Benchmade is a much better knife. But I find myself routinely using the SOG S.A.T folders less then my Arc-Lock and Axis-lock knives. The Flash II is a great buy! I use the SOG Trident more often. thanks

Neglect it and you'll spend more time sharpening. For SOG folders I am using my spec-elite and trident often. Spyderco endura is used a lot as well. I try to switch up weekly with my knives.

Very good. Thank you very much.

Definitely a cool knife, so much so I purchased another(plain blade) this time. I need to add another vid with the new additions.

I just got my Byrd Cara Cara Black Comboedge today from ebladeknifes and I wanted to see a video of it and I guess this kinda counts cept that mine is black. Well thanks.
ViolentX 4 years ago
its all bout SPYDERCO i've got the same endura as yours as edc and a serrated foliage green one, i have a spyder military and i have the cara cara coming in the mail now it was alot cheaper than the other spyders what do you think of the cara cara?? its not small isit but is it sharp?? for fixed blades i own some big spanish fuckers but my personal fave is my crkt hissatsu one mean M.F
WestabL1sheD 4 years ago
WestabL1sheD-
I EDC'd the Endura for a long time. C.Cara is is a great value just a little heavier obviously. Took a great edge pretty quick.

Hey, i just bought a Scimitar.(last one in video)
A little odd, but it's alright. Got a titanium lock. I tried scratching the titanium with my Spyderco Raven, and the edge broke. :/

Does anyone have tests/comments about the Cold-steel AK-47 folder?

that's a very impressive collection you've got yourself. what do you think of the cold steel triple action? i'm thinking of getting one. its a bit expensive so if its a peice of shit i dont want to waste my money.
iamarockgod666 4 years ago
iamarockgod666, thanks. Still a fun little knife that I'm glad I purchased, just that I have others I use more often. thanks!
nitwitbeer 4 years ago
its a hunk of shit. More of a toy than a knife. Stay away from cold steel all together.

KICKASS!!! i am going to order a sog trident tf-7 black tanto blade tomorrow. i have been saving up for weeks!
worth it? FUCK YES
Souppoop777 4 years ago
I'll be gettin' an X2 Voyager(''grande'')in the mail anytime now, and this video was a major influence in the purchase. Thanks.
VicariousReality7 4 years ago
... well, now i have it. It's huge! And it was so freakin' sharp that when i was wiping some lint off the blade it sheared though my shirt and into my thumb!
VicariousReality7 4 years ago
VicariousReality7, ya the knife is a real bruiser =). I was astonished when I first received it. Like most of my knives I purchased sight unseen, mostly just knew information of the knife(s) through fellow owners. Glad the vid helped and good luck with future purchases!

i hate the spyderco lockback and thumb-hole look! ive heard they're very reliable though.
CmsWolves69 4 years ago
they are VERY reliable, minus that first gen hunk of shit which is one of spydercos saddest models ever produced.
FUCK BENCHMADE!!!!!
dericdesmond 4 years ago
I am not a fan of the thumbhole either but i think i'll get a delica. Benchmade Rocks though, they're Made in the USA sharp and their axis lock is incredible.
Dtownknifekid 4 years ago
if you don't already, you should get some gerber knives. they are a good quality and don't necessarily cost much, personally, i carry a gerber paraframe 2 for everyday.
mortaldraw 4 years ago
You should get a gerber profile, they are cheap but good. Other than that, get a cold steel tanto and a buck nighthawk (two of the most durable knives you'll find).
nationale 4 years ago
Thanks a lot for the feedback. I've been doing a bit of research on the knife, and not many customers are satisfied with it, saying it doesn't stand up to much and the handle wears after just a short time. I've since been looking for the Fred Perrin model, but no progress yet (not only that, but from the looks of it, it's a very expensive knife)
Zer0Funk 4 years ago
Very good collection! Actually, I´m trying to buy a Sog Trident Folding Knife, just like yours, but here in Brasil they ask for 200 dollars for it! I think I´m gonna import it from USA.
And what do you think about the Trident Folder, nitwitbeer? Is it a good folder? Should I buy the TigerStripe blade or the Black TiNi blade?
I already have some SOGs, like the Seal 2000 and the Seal Pup.
Sorry about my english... hehe
Greetings from Brasil!

Zer0Funk 4 years ago
Zer0Funk -

What do you think about the lack of bushings/liners?
ricegangster 4 years ago
I like the SOG flash a lot, I've had 2. The Benchmade is a much better knife. But I find myself routinely using the SOG S.A.T folders less then my Arc-Lock and Axis-lock knives. The Flash II is a great buy! I use the SOG Trident more often. thanks
nitwitbeer 4 years ago
