I was fucking surprised as hell when I found that VH was kicking off their tour here in Charlotte, NC. Most most tours don't even come to NC, much less kick off a tour here.
Yeah, no shit! I flew from Houston to Atlanta, hopped in a rental car and drove from Atlanta to Charlotte for this! I wouldn't have missed it for the world! Concert of a lifetime!
Yea, non-exciting, bland, cheesy Van Hagar music is more EXCITING than exciting, fast, hard rocking Classic Van Halen musical genious?!? Makes all the sense in the world to me.
I saw them in Greensboro and they were phenomenal. Does anybody know if they have done the a cappella break since this show? They skipped it in Greensboro (understandably so, with the emotion and tears) but I haven't seen any clips where they've done it since.
Not the jumping and the physical energy but hey, they are almost eligable for the senior discounts at Dennys. On the other hand, wow, they are tight...Dave is singing the songs right, wWolf hits those high vocals, and the rest is like old time except for MA! Well we can'thave everything. Wolf is darn good though.
I seen Van Halen on the Diver Down tour in Toronto and then seen Sammy with his first tour , now Sammy was good but you know what it is not Van Halen Roth is a pure rock and rock roll singer , i do not know how long this will last but as fans we should just enjoy the moment rock and roll is back baby and it 's called Van Halen
I was there for this show and the band was stellar. From the angle this was shot, this guy had to be sitting a few rows in front of me. I missed VH in 1984, I waited for this show all this time and it was a great payoff. The only complaint I had being a sound engineer myself was all the feedback and Dave's vocal was too quiet the first half of the show. Otherwise, a great show!
Not only does Roth & the rest seem at their best here, but I am outright amazed at what an awesome bass player Wolfgang in fact is. Eddie has said his son is better than him on guitar if I'm not mistaken so hope someday they let us see that too. As Dave said at the tour announcement this is not a reunion tour. This is the band indefinitely.
I was there. It was one of the best shows I've ever been to. Trust me, they haven't missed a step. You will smile the entire show. Get as close to the stage as possible. The real Van Halen is back.

Long before any public annoucement was made, they had discovered the fact that Wolfgang Van Halen was capable of reproducing the tenor background vocals. He's an unproven quantity for many of us, but it stands to reason that they would've never gone public with the reunion if the kid didn't have his vocal chops.
You're absolutely right. That's why it drove me batty reading all the comments from people about how much it would suck without M.A. before they even heard the kid. From what I've heard so far, the only thing missing from the show is an embarrassing bass solo. I can't wait to see them!

Im kind of an lonely fan over here,.. hehe..;)

they hit the stage like they had something to prove and didn't let up for 2 hours, it was the about the only thing in this shitty post 9/11 world that made me hysterically happy

they sound unbelievable. I saw VH in Germany on the Monsters of Rock tour 84. I left after their performance and skipped AC/DC. No way was AC/DC going to top VH. I want to line the assclowns up that are doggin a 16yr old kid not only for his stage presents but his weight. And slap the *#^& out of them. You couldn't hold this kids jock for what he is pulling off. Outstanding Job Wolf, you have a long career ahead of you.
hows about that last note Dave hits at the end of the song...jesus, 25 years ago he wasnt hitting those notes, and singing like that live....usually drunk and talkin through, hittin it flat, this is the absolute sh&t!!!!!!
My 15 year old nephew was with my brother and I. He's been to all the contemporary shows for rock acts of today....he was completely in awe. I'm sure he expected to see a washed up buncha old humps. He was blown away. Said it was an awakening to what a rock show is. He couldn't believe it.

He actually played the Frankenstrat or other striped classic-looking guitars for the majority of the concert. And I was at the show, and there were pockets of really wild fans and pockets of really lame fans. Strangely enough, up front, there were mostly lame fans, and in the back the fans were awesome. I was up front, seemingly one of the few around that was really really into it. However I'm 20 or more years younger than most of the fans, so I might have more energy, who knows?
think about dude, those people around you? 20 years of tap water, bad republican politics, alchohol, cheese nips and mediocrity. Even cows get excited, just can't see it in their fat faces...take it as a lesson...
I was there on the floor... Eddie played the New EVH Wolfgang for most of the songs. He did break out a white with black stripes and R/W/B striped Charvels for a few songs and a Frankenstrat (not sure if it was thee original... I didn't see 5150 on it) and played only 1 or 2 songs with it.
LMAO....dude I dont know how you can get that. I was at the show... The audience was nuts. Completely stunned..I expected em to fall flat...but dude....they delivered. This is a crappy little video w/ poor sound. The roof almost came off that place.

Perfectly said! This was nostalgic... For me it was like going back in a timeship to the mid 80s. And it also does show real musical talent and shows exactly what a bunch of shit is being marketed as music today; All attitude-NO Talent! These guys just lay it down. I'd like to see them again somewhere along the tour if I can make the time. Among the few good songs, there was a lot of sappy music with Van Hagar but the Roth Era was the real Van Halen; Go see them if you can!

Wow! The electricity from the crowd just gives you goose bumps. Ive seen VH 3times twice with Sam and VH3 and this you can tell is gonnabeat them all. Dave was the missing factor in this band more so than Mikey, I don't really care about Mikey not being in VH his Bass playing wasn't that great and definetly replaceable. Vocally sure his background is important but not enough to derail a kick ass tour like this, he can stay with fat ass Sammy in my opinion.
Wolfie wasn't too animated but he did make rounds slapping hands and throwing picks. The backup vocal highs were there which was of concern... Michael Anthony's energy wasn't. I think MA was a great bass player for VH and would have been the best choice for the tour but Wolfie is 17; He just needs a little time to learn to work the stage. I bet he's better in later shows this tour.
They sound fantastic! Wolf's nailing the back ups and playing a mean bass, Ed and Alex are on top of their game and Dave looks and sounds better than he has in years!! They better get to Houston soon.

He actually played the Frankenstrat or other striped classic-looking guitars for the majority of the concert. And I was at the show, and there were pockets of really wild fans and pockets of really lame fans. Strangely enough, up front, there were mostly lame fans, and in the back the fans were awesome. I was up front, seemingly one of the few around that was really really into it. However I'm 20 or more years younger than most of the fans, so I might have more energy, who knows?

I was there on the floor... Eddie played the New EVH Wolfgang for most of the songs. He did break out a white with black stripes and R/W/B striped Charvels for a few songs and a Frankenstrat (not sure if it was thee original... I didn't see 5150 on it) and played only 1 or 2 songs with it.

LMAO....dude I dont know how you can get that. I was at the show... The audience was nuts. Completely stunned..I expected em to fall flat...but dude....they delivered. This is a crappy little video w/ poor sound. The roof almost came off that place.

i HATE the people in the stands that think it is okay to sit, then when you stand infront of them they yell at you. its a Van Halen concert, you should be ashamed to be sitting.

I was there, right up front, less than a foot from Dave many times... Thanks so much for posting this; I'll watch it over and over, but it still CANNOT do justice to what I was privileged enough to see myself last night! BEST SHOW EVER!!! GO SEE THEM!!! Luckily, I'll get to see Round 2 in Greensboro tomorrow night... It's a good thing, too... I need to get it cemented into my memory banks.

Just like I remember it! Thanks so much for posting this! I was in section 116. Go SEE THIS! I stood the whole show as most everyone did. Still can't get any sleep...so psyched! Saw them every year with Sammy but never with Dave. I was on cloud 9 all night...still am!! Wow, wow , wow!

Except for a few acts, music these days is dismal and the top 40 stuff thats being marketed to us is SHIT! So on one hand this is a nostalgic love fest but it's also a glimpse of real icons and real Rock Music. The Citcle is complete, truly. Well minus Michael Anthony but this is close enough :))))

Perfectly said! This was nostalgic... For me it was like going back in a timeship to the mid 80s. And it also does show real musical talent and shows exactly what a bunch of shit is being marketed as music today; All attitude-NO Talent! These guys just lay it down. I'd like to see them again somewhere along the tour if I can make the time. Among the few good songs, there was a lot of sappy music with Van Hagar but the Roth Era was the real Van Halen; Go see them if you can!

I still cant believe it. What a great song, nice break to get an idea of the audience affection. 20 years and worth the wait. The band really seems to be having a blast playing together and they sound great. Can't wait till December in Vancouver

Yup....I was there. Great video....if you could only feel the bass drum thumpin your chest like we felt there.....Saw em twice w/ roth before.....THIS IS THE REAL DEAL....BEST SHOW IVE SEEN in 22 years. I came prepared to watch the death of a great band.....BUT...this is for real.

Wow! The electricity from the crowd just gives you goose bumps. Ive seen VH 3times twice with Sam and VH3 and this you can tell is gonnabeat them all. Dave was the missing factor in this band more so than Mikey, I don't really care about Mikey not being in VH his Bass playing wasn't that great and definetly replaceable. Vocally sure his background is important but not enough to derail a kick ass tour like this, he can stay with fat ass Sammy in my opinion.

Wolfie wasn't too animated but he did make rounds slapping hands and throwing picks. The backup vocal highs were there which was of concern... Michael Anthony's energy wasn't. I think MA was a great bass player for VH and would have been the best choice for the tour but Wolfie is 17; He just needs a little time to learn to work the stage. I bet he's better in later shows this tour.

They sound fantastic! Wolf's nailing the back ups and playing a mean bass, Ed and Alex are on top of their game and Dave looks and sounds better than he has in years!! They better get to Houston soon.
