  • If black people are self haters then everyone is selfhaters when they do somethign to their hair.....

  • I agree with some of what you're saying, but in the video you ignore the fact that black people have experienced hundreds of years of being put down for their physical features. Yes, they changed their features to fit in but the reason why they wanted to "fit in" was because their ancestors had endured generations of being called ugly or subhuman because of the way they looked. So blacks began changing themselves as a result of internalizing these things. Now that being said, is EVERY black pe

  • Elle

  • I love your video. Best ever!

  • ALVIN: HEY EBONY IS THIS YOU

  • There is one comment she made that I don't agree with, and that is that Black is the most different looking of all the races. I think each race has their own traits that set them apart. African hair and skin, Europeans eye color, Oriental Eye shape and body shape, Native Indians height and in between color, India's darker lips and larger noses. etc They're all completely DIFFERENT.

  • I feel where you're coming from but I feel that your theory is a bit misguided. Because on one end your saying that conforming is a good thing but only when it's adapting to nature but on the other end you're saying that conforming is bad when its trying to be like the crowd. Self hatred is what it is but conforming or adapting is something that someone does in order to blend in with it's surroundings. If I change my nose because I hate how black big it is then that's self hatred.

  • @KDTBRB

"you're saying that conforming is bad when its trying to be like the crowd. "

No, I'm not saying that at all. I am saying it's natural to want to conform to the group. I don't see anything wrong with changing anything a person wants to change. It's their body, their business.

  • if conforming is painful i don't want to do it example relaxing hair its a preference i flat ironed my natural hair only 2 times and i'll never do it again i had a little heat damage and had to trim that off also trying to conform to something you are not sometimes creates self hatred how i know you ask well i live around black people who hate themselves so much it drives me crazy I live in the south by the way im still surprised im still natural thank goodness.

  • @afropagangirl11223

Sometimes hair can take a lot of heat, and sometimes it can't. I even have a few white female friends who do "no-heat curls" because their hair can't take the heat damage either. They also go through s*** ton of f*** to make their hair conform too, but nobody talks about that.

  • What a smart smart video, I LOVE this phrase:

"Where does conformity ends and self hate begins?"

This phrase alone is a wake up call to me.

    You are a LIFE Saver.

Very balance and logical, you truly saved my self esteem.

  • Omg!!! I think I luv u... Lol

  • Your video is very informative and the examples you give are profound - its deffo thought provoking. Thanks for this video upload!!!

  • The black race is the original species on the planet. So we shouldnt be conforming if anything the other people should be trying to look like us. If you knew anything you would know that blacks went through slavery reason why the women perm their hair it was passed down due to madam cj walker. The asians who change their hair to look black they should if you knew history you would know that blacks were first in asia check out the coils on the ancient buddha statues.

  • I love how some Asians rocking afro perms and getting haitstyles that are asscoiate mostly with 4 type hair such as braids, kinky twists, locs, cornrows, etc. I wondered what is the chemical that transform their straight hair to coily texture? It refreshing to see a different culture embrace hair that looks like mines naturally.

  • You have fallen victim to Fallacies yourself: 1. non sequitur: "Self Hate" in the context of blacks in America (FORCED assimilation) was and is forced self hate and white worship. Black Americans are unique in this regard. Therefore your examples used to support your assertions are apples and oranges. Concerning your disagreement with the term "natural" being good - I defer to what God said after he created all things in their NATURAL state. "It is good". If you disagree it is with God.

  • Spot on!!!!

  • I noticed you continued to say "Black" people are the most different from any other race. The statement is wrong. Peoples of African Decent are the majority of Humans on earth. However, we are not the dominating culture on earth. To correct that statement, you would have to say Human beings are more likely to conform to the dominating culture, and sense the African culture no longer is the dominate culture, some "Blacks" feel safer conforming to the dominate culture.

  • @commonman80

"Peoples of African Decent are the majority of Humans on earth. "

If you mean that the other races evolved from Africa, I see what you mean, but Asians actually are the majority of humans on earth. You have 2 countries in Asia with over a billion people each.

  • @UHeardMe1stTime, In reply to your statement, Yep, and Yep.

    Ok. :-)

  • @UHeardMe1stTime you know what we think alike a few months ago when i made a video similar to this topic i said the same exact thing same exact thing but i took it down i may put it back up

  • i like your reasoning,i love being black coz everything about me is unique.good one

  • To me it's not self hate if you choose to process/straighten your hair. However sometimes it is the reasons that I think some people have self-hate.

  • @summerchick621

    Sometimes, sure.

  • In a way this extreme desire to conform creates a loss identity and creates a robotic mentality where everybody look the same, you can even hear people talkin the same word for word, u don't believe me just talk to somebody and then go about your business and watch how many people say the same shit in the same manner possessing the same state of mind

  • Very interesting video.... I would agree that it has a lot to do with conformity rather than self-hatred. I loved how the emo guy is used as a perfect example. Most guys i've seen who are apart of the emo scene have indeed died their long hair jetblack. The scene has gained immense popularity and more and more guys strive to conform to the fad and their own standard of beauty in their own emo world. It only brought me to the conlusion that it's all about conformity, not self-loathe. Cya!

  • this was actually incredibly insightful, and made me re-evaluate my beliefs on "self-hating"

    thank you

  • One of the best discussions on this subject I've ever heard, well done. x

  • Thank you for a very well thought out and articulate presentation. not that i REALLY believed all black people who chose to change their hair texture as self-hating, you definitely presented a view of the argument that never occurred to me.

  • @LadyChicSoSweet i couldn't have said it better my self :)

  • Valid points...valid points.

  • I think it turns into self-hate when resentment builds in the individual for making those physical changes. No resentment, no self-hate I'm guessing.

  • every european country has people with curly hair.blacks in africa dont wear dreadlocks.

  • I will say this, Of course its not going to be looked at as self hate or supression when a non black person changes their hair. We as blacks have a painful history with our unique features. For years it influenced us to manipulate our hair to fit in with the rest of society. But its to the point where hardly no bw are interested in their natural hair texture and wont even wear it. It's not just conforming with blacks there's somthing deeply rooted in us that makes us avoid our natural hair.

  • i totaly agree with what your saying

  • now if the victim in the conformity videos had been harmed by the other ppl the outcome would not be the same. yes it is human to conform but it is also human to rebel against a group of ppl who have caused and are still causing harm to you for the sake of dignity/pride.

So why would the test subject even after having his family brutalized by the others in the lift still conform to their standards?

Only a person with no dignity or pride would conform and without either there is no self love

  • The reason why it is different for black women is because they are in a different set of circumstances than all the other races.

The white beauty standard wasn't set by everyone sitting around a table and deciding what is beautiful. It was set by one group stating that this is good and that is bad. This standard has existed for hundreds of years WITHOUT any challenge... continued

  • "act black" WHATEVER THAT MEANS ANYWAY!!! Also, don't forget that people TAN whether naturally or spray nonsense on themselves trying to look DARKER! Look at the dances in a lot of videos, the choreography stems from choreography in Black songs and vidoes. And speaking of black songs, so many folks are trying to RAP which originated with black people. So, we are DEFINITELY the standard in a great many ways! With whom did cornrows originate? And so many "others" are gettind down with them!

  • I think you comment about "us" rarely being the standard is clearly far from the truth! No offense. But, so many people are trying to have a big booty, doing all these exercises and even getting the butt implants. That is most naturally a black thing. Next, many people are getting lip implants, lip injections, and wearing some type of lip gloss plumper to make their lips fuller which is most naturally a black thing. Additionally, we see people all the time trying to "act black"**

  • This video has helped me clear up some things. If I were to say straighting your non straight hair is not natural and I'm better than you becuase I don't do that I just cut the knots out. Then someone could easily come up to me and say you are not natural because you didn't embrass everything about your hair by cutting it off. Who said your hair was something you had to penetrate? It all makes sense now.

  • Natural hair is better because of what you said with the health benifits regarless of race if you are using lye or no lye (which also contains lye) relaxers it is really putting acid in your hair and on your scalp. Do we really need to demonstrate what acid can do to hard surfaces let alone our soft skin? However if you don't suffer scabs, major balding, and fried hair you can be beautiful with those same chemicals. So who wants to go 1st. Natural hair by itself that is afro texture is....

  • @Longhairstile not BEAUTIFUL matter of fact no hair by itself in it's natural form is beautiful because we don't understand it. People comb their hair and it makes their hair get out of it's state of natural tangles then styles are created to further do this like the two strand twist and twist out which elongate our hair to show length that naturally we really don't have unless we do that style. So unless we as whites and blacks don't comb our hair we can't appreciate NATURAL BEAUTY ....

  • @Longhairstile That being said it further confirms that we do conform becuase we feel like we have to in order to have safety, freedom (to a certain extent), careers, beauty, acceptance. I don't conform you say. Walk outside Naked and don't mind the people in suits giving out silver jelerwy to take you downtown to give you "Free Food" (freedom). Next time you go to work and take you kids to school don't comb your hair or theirs and don't mind social service coming to take them then you wonder..

  • @Longhairstile ...about their (safety) and if you will have a (career). Wear shorts and a tank top on your next dinner date without shaving your legs or under your arms for at least 5 months and be sure to raise your hand high for the waiter/waitress (beauty). Don't watch porno with your husband because his past girlfriends did (acceptance). In order to live in society we do conform in many ways and I realise it even more now. It's still self hate for some but the rest is confomity. Thanx :)...

  • RE: Mohawk/ Faux Hawk

First black person I saw that had this was P Diddy.

  • Minute 6:33 - 6:44

Politely disagree. Most kids out there today "dress black".

As a WM I definitely see white youth gravitating towards Black American style of dress. It's everywhere.

  • @CrociatoAzzurro

I'm not sure how old you are but the style right now is skinny jeans, punk rock, retro late 80, early 90's look. Mohawks & faux hawk are in. A lot of black artist have actually ditched the baggy jeans & started wearing tight ones & some are even wearing mohawks. The punk rock look is not a black look.

Now of course there are some youths out there dressing in urban attire but it's not the majority. I think you're alarmed by it so it seems more prevalent than it really is.

  • Comment removed

  • @UHeardMe1stTime

Yeah, I've seen it. But this is a fairly new thing. Between, say 1993 - 2005 is was the baggy look, then the sag thing.

  • @CrociatoAzzurro

Alright, so styles change. Why the alarm when the style leans more toward the black side? Blacks imitated white dress & even hairstyles for many, many years & still do. Now, it's our turn or at least it was during 1993-2005. No biggie.

  • @UHeardMe1stTime

BTW, I enjoy your video's. Though I do think you are exaggerating with this whole "the black race is dying out".

The last census shows a 13% share in America alone.

  • @CrociatoAzzurro

I have never expressed concern over the black race dying out as in being bred out. Race preservation is not a concern of mine.

  • @UHeardMe1stTime i find it great that even though black men are doing the skinny jeans thing, they still make the jeans sag, and sagging jeans imo is a "black" thing and as a result white men do the same

  • Skin whitening cream is a massive industry in India.

In India the caste system is very much alive.

  • good points

  • Wow. I see so many stupid video on YouTube, Thank you SO MUCH for this well done and thought out video. Seeing this video is like reaching fresh air after drowning in the stupidity that is YouTube.

  • this is a perfect example of low intelligence at its finest.

  • @attorneyskillforjew Non-specific criticisms are a sign of low intelligence.

  • ........... There are asians who widen their eyes (as they are the only ones on earth w/ that eye shape) and slimming their noses. It's not always an act of self hate but of conformity and the status quo that we will conform to are those that are in power - and that's White ppl.

  • I LOVE your logic and it's absolutely right. although i still do think that there are some oself hating blacks for other reasons, the whole issue about black women changing their hair and it being considered self hatred is blown out of proportion and actually unfair. There are SO many white women bleaching their hair blonde, plumping their lips, or tanning. .......

  • africans are also bleaching their skin allthough they are living in africa ...are they also conforming?? ..and sadly there exists"racism" in africa based on the skin tone..even if you watch an african movie you will realize that the bad guys are usually some dark skinned brotha's

  • @naamalj

"africans are also bleaching their skin allthough they are living in africa ...are they also conforming?"

Yes. Just like Asians in Asia who get eyelid surgery.

  • Secondly, if we were to debate the argument of nature vs. chemically altered hair, obviously it would be LESS healthy to apply chemicals to our skin and hair. It is a personal choice and not an instance to use necessity as an excuse to chemically treat our hair.

  • @rara4237

It is NOT necessary yo alter the hair. But if you want to wear certain hairstyles it is. There is no NEED to leave it natural.

  • The clitoris is an "un-necessary" body part in terms of giving birth to children, so should we all cut them off (ladies)??? LOL! Of course not! It's not a matter of what's needed. It's a matter of what is a natural part of you that you will either choose to embrace or not. I have no problems with anyone's personal choices but logic through scientific explanation in terms of the way our natural hair texture grows is a bit much...thank you :-)

  • @rara4237

"The clitoris is an "un-necessary" body part in terms of giving birth to children"

And the nose is unnecessary in terms of wearing shirts. The clitoris is not for child birth so YES it's unnecessary in terms of that. It's for sexual enjoyment. Removing the clit is permanent. Even though it's called a perm, it's not permanent. Clit removal is usually done to young girls who don't have a say in the matter.

  • I love this video. It did change my views a bit about the self-hate relaxer debate. Like others have said, your debate is extremely logical and backed up with scientific and logical facts.

In the end there is nothing wrong with those who chose to relax. (Those chemicals are toxic!! But that's beside the point).

(One point I'd like to add is that black people with darker skin living in northern climates actually do suffer one thing. Slight lack of natural vitamin D. Take yer vitamins ppl)

  • I understand the conformity argument, however it has been my experience that when the option of going natural is brought up most women respond negatively using very derogatory terms to describe natural hair (I wouldn't be caught dead with my hair nappy). The only argument most women would have is the "its more manageable" one......

  • Good video. I enjoyed it.

  • very clever video though, btw.

  • Many Australasian, micronesians and pacific islanders have afro hair.

  • @FunBoy15

If you mean hair that can achieve an afro, there are people with really curly or frizzy hair who can achieve an afro, but that doesn't mean they have the same kinky texture as most Africans or those of African descent.

  • umm wtf?? wow first off MY ancestors where the FIRST people in the Americas NOT blacks...get ur facts right dumb ass

  • @EthanCole15

I didn't say blacks were the first in America. Clean your ears out.

  • @EthanCole15 Were your people here before the Olmecs?

  • I had never really considered your argument, which is the most logical I've heard, which is why in the past I made the self-hating argument. So would it be fair to assume that since the majority make that argument that self-hate does have something to do with it when referring to yourself in a derogatory manner?

  • Girl- get your own radio station! Love it!

  • Changing black features is sometimes, not always about self hatred. I would have never dreamed of wearing an afro until I saw more and more of my sistahs rocking it. I didnt like my afro before but when I saw others embracing it, I still dislike my afro but not as much. I didnt like my full lips in highschool until I saw others embracing it. Is this self hatred? I dont know. I guess I just want to fit in. Im a trend setter.

  • Evolved? lol I guess she believes in the evolution THEORY.

  • @itsmecassiej i guess your on the god stuff?

  • @xXflava01Xx thats right!!!

  • I like my hair curly, afro, straight., twists. I get bored fast with hair style. Gotta change it up.

  • What do you mean by regular black men, do you mean the throngz.

  • Self expression is more like it. If I learn a new language does it mean that I hate my country? If I Learn to cook a different cuisine does it mean I hate my culture? At the same time you just have to look at the heart of the matter. Some people do hate themselves and the physical change is as a result, that doesn't mean everyone fits the bill. I agree with you mostly even though we do disagree on some points. Well delivered by the way.

  • I undertand where you get some of you concern. I am an African American female. I wear a natural hair style. I am lighter skinned. I chemically treated my hair for years but found it beneficial to go natural. I didn't hate myself then nor do I hate myself now. I am a Christian woman so I don't believe in evolution. The creator of the evolution theory was related to the creator of the Eugenics movement. Take a look at it. It is startling and sad.

  • well let ur hair evolve dont perm it

  • you speak well ,,, but not necessarily on point..... dont agree with u.... and i think u know u wrong... but u do however have some highly valid points !!

  • ok so its wrong for blacks to lighten their skin and striaten their hair? but no one has a problem with whites getting tans and changing their hair? lol

  • Self-hate only apply to people, regardless of race, when they wish or want to be a race not their own. When u live in a country with multicultures there going to be trends & appearances you like more than you own. Because were individuals with different tastes that change when we see something we like. It has nothing to do with conforming or self-hate more of a preference thing. It's just too bad that it's human nature too dislike what they don't agree with or like...

  • Why fix something in only the terms of "bad" and "good"? You do have natural hair trolls out there. I can't speak for all naturals, but I would say that the state that is more conducive to allowing stronger, well preserved, soft, thicker hair is the natural state. Ppl can have "good" results w/ relaxers and weaves, they don't have to be "bad", but natural hair is ALWAYS "good", most importantly it is "best".

(It is best to workout to lose weight but if you want lipo do it...) get my point?

  • You can defend yourself all day but you can not honestly defend all sistas who have relaxers and weaves. Self-hate is alive.

I don't do relaxers but I will wear extensions. Its not that ALL Blk women who have relaxers or weaves hate themselves, its the Blk women who treat there natural hair as if its taboo and will not leave their house w/ their natural hair expose who have self-hate. They HEAVILY RELY on relaxers and weave to make themselves look more "presentable" instead of trendy.

  • Damn! You've just blown my mind. I would have argued to my death that this was all about self-hate but now I've been 'schooled'. I can't express how enlightened I feel right now.

Love this vid. I'm not just adding to my favourites I'm downloading and archiving this one.

  • u sound hella stupid even if their was a city with all african american people. They will still notice that they where diffrent from each other see what you fail to relize is african americans come in difrrent colors you have black people who are really dark to really light and we all have diffrent hair textures also. white people curl their hair and also and get lip ingestions and tans dose that mean they are trying to be black? people do what the fuck they want to do.

  • @liltasha85

1st of all before you call anyone stupid, use the right form of the word "their". You should have used "there". 2nd, I'm arguing that black people can change whatever they want & not be self-hating. 3rd, nowhere in my video did I say black people all come in one color & one hair texture. (However, MOST black people are brown-skinned & kinky-haired). 4th, you can get your point across without being a jerk.

  • @UHeardMe1stTime

Thanks for the video people don't pay enough attention to the subtleties of matters. I love how you point out that the at a lot of the seemingly adverse behavior is is indeed behavior and not merely a act of deception.

Though there's more i would add to this, I commend you on your effort and in complete agreement.

But to be blunt it is all of the above, looking at it from any perspective, this day in age.

  • I never thought of this. People who didn't evolve in america still thrive with European or African features. If black features are necessary to survive in africa then how have 40% of S. Africa which isn't black thrive?

  • amen

  • so if someone w/o a fro goes to africa, theyll die? 2:00 - 2:23

  • @Uheardme1sttime I deleted my comment, it was meant for Ler77

  • wtf,,,,, asians making their hair KINKY???? i wish i knew their secret, because i wouldnt have done the BIG CHOP...lol wait wait, if they can make their hair kinky, they need to market this product over here in america...lol that way relaxed women wont have to cut off their relaxed hair sooo soon

  • 4:32...

    Glasgow Rangers.....

  • It doesn't matter if every "full" black person in the world had its on continent, we would still be divided by skin color. The dark skin/light skin issue is so deeply rooted in us, there is not a chance that the issue would cease. The only way it will stop is if we were all blown up....that is how ridiculous its gotten.

  • The question is not if natural hair is beneficial in nature, Its about what is the most healthiest (no chemical burns, or unnecessary chemical absorption into our bodies that could have adverse effects....who knows? plausible genetic mutations down the line), psychologically suitable alternative. At the same time we as a group have evolved as a ppl who accept other ppls hair type instead of our own, even to the point of being ashamed & disowning our genetics & that w/ in itself is the problem.

  • ''all sorts of gay'' XDD hahahaha

  • lol good video with excellent points

  • @ler77

Tell me this, what is so wrong with wanting to conform? Some people don't want to be different, like she said in the video. So if they don't want to be different how does that concern you?

  • @ler77

Before you completely dismiss what she is saying, you might want to stop and just think about it for a second. Kinky hair is neither good or bad it is just not need in this envirement. If you love everything about those features, fine and dandy, but don't get upset at people who don't want to be different and want to conform.

  • Term Naturalistic Fallacy was coined by philosopher G.E. Moore. Fallacy = deceptive false. You also use the Theory of evolution in your video. If we evolved for a purpose or better if we were created like this for a reason. Then just because we may not fully understand the reason doesn't = it being NOT NESSASARY. Naturalistic Fallacy is a theory. You are using 2 conflicting theories. Logical and fallacy can't go together. Something invalid ,can't be logical?

  • @LER77

I do not believe we were "created". And no, kinky hair is not necessary. Neither is straight hair. Neither is having hair period. If it were, we would die or become ill if we altered or shaved out heads. I'm not saying kinky hair doesn't serve a purpose. I'm saying kinky hair isn't necessary to live.

  • @UHeardMe1stTime Tonsils aren't necessary so we cut them out. Male infants are circumcised because their foreskin is deemed unnecessary. I think before we can say a thing is unnecessary we should first know it's purpose.

  • @LER77

We know tonsils aren't necessary because when removed, the person is for the most part unaffected. Same thing with kinky hair. Not all body parts serve a purpose. Some things are left over from when they were necessary earlier in our evolution.

  • @UHeardMe1stTime You choose to BELIEVE in man's theories. Then you use two conflicting theories to make a point. Necessary or Unnecessary, doesn't address the topic of your video.

  • @LER77

But necessary / unnecessary does address the question asked me by Nate & you.

  • @UHeardMe1stTime (#1)I never asked a question. I made observations and statements after watching the video. By my observation the concept of necessity doesn't address { Is changing your Black features self hate }. Thats the best point of view you can think of? If I ask you Do you like the taste of Chocolate. Then you respond Chocolate is not necessary. Is that an answer? NO its not.

  • @LER77 Foreskin is removed here usually b/c of the religious crap that was told to us.Even non-religious ppl do it for 'cleanliness'. What nonsense.

  • Comment removed

  • @UHeardMe1stTime correct

  • @NatTurnerIsAlive

You bringing up white men using BW as "sex slaves" during slavery to explain BW's supposed self-hate is a stretch. WHY aren't even on BW's minds when they get their hair done. If anything, they're thinking about BLACK MEN.

Let me tell you this. I had natural hair in college & TWO of my BLACK boyfriends hinted that they wanted me to get permed up.

  • @NatTurnerIsAlive

I've never been owned a day in my life & neither has any of the other black women so drop that slavery scapegoat stuff. If you gonna come with something, come with something relevant.

  • @NatTurnerIsAlive

You didn't read a word I typed. The hair & skin issues that the black community has affect women more because women are more heavily judged on beauty. Men are not. So to make a comparison between BM & BW on self-image issues is uneducated.

That's like comparing incarceration rates for BM & BW. It's uneducated to make such a comparison without taking into account the differences between being a male & a female.

  • @NatTurnerIsAlive

If hair is not necessary AT ALL, then how can a certain hair texture be necessary? Kinky hair is a product of evolving in Africa. We are no longer in Africa. Plus if kinky hair were necessary we would get sick or die from altering it.

  • @NatTurnerIsAlive

Comparing what black women do to their hair to what black men do to theirs is like comparing crime rates for black females & males who didn't have fathers & then asking why the black males commit more crimes. Certain things affect the sexes differently. If you don't understand that then you're not going to be helpful in discussing such issues.

  • nice debate bravo!!!

  • Words have way more power than we give them credit for. Damn self hate! What is self love? Black women by far are the most beautiful on this earth especially the one's that wear their hair the way God made it. If you on Facebook go to Twist and curves natural hair. It's tons of styles that nobody can wear but the sisters, I love them women! Fuck them Koreans monopolizing so called black hair! I'm less intimate when a weave is involved it's disgusting against my skin.

  • OMG! the girl at 2:39 is ABSOLUTELY GAWGEOUS! FLAWLESS! lol

  • wow. i really loved the demonstrations with the control groups. Are you a psychologist? Sociologist? I love your work. I like your voice as well. Thank you.

  • Because if our hair is this way due to acclimatization to the Sun; well wherever I go on the planet the Sun is there; so it would make sense to keep it in the state I was born with. I would rather let climate change the structure of my hair naturally or through billions of years of evolution, than to change it chemically or otherwise to conform.

  • You are also clutching at straws for the nature argument. We are generally born with 2 eyes, a mouth, a nose, two legs etc. Some would argue are they necessaryI know what answer I would give. Would it mean that hair from my ethnicity is important..I would say yes.

  • Your elevator argument could also be applied to having lighter skin. If all the men in the elevator have light skin, would it mean i would want lighter skin....I think not!?!?! The given experiments in your video only apply to certain circumstances.not all.

  • When you are conforming to somebody else's ideal of beauty, you are in effect saying you are not proud of what you were born with. It's a nonsensical idea to believe that natural hair cannot be maintained; one just needs to educate oneself on how to maintain it.

  • You are also ignoring the fact that the media plays an important part in shaping peoples reality. Hence, if the media is owned by a certain people who are about superiority, or feel they are better.....they are going to push an agenda through newspapers, tv or magazines for dominance; it's called self preservation, brainwashing.or forced conformity. If one has knowledge of "self" and are proud of oneself (relating to hair), then there wouldn't be a need to change or conform.

  • There are many nuances as to why black people change their hair. However it cannot be denied that many change their hair due to not being happy with themselves.self hate is such a cliché. I think you are ignoring the negative elements that occur in society....such as racism.

  • you idiot dont you know we are in the image that other extraterrestrials hae been on earth before....google Annunaki and human dna and you will see half of the reason we look the way we look....God created us differently and we should embrass eachother for our differences

  • 7:25 this is what I'm saying. I don't usually hear anyone complaining about Japanese kids perming their hair to become kinky. There is such a double standard with blacks. We have to take the brunt of things. I don't like to play the race card, and I don't feel as if I am now, but if a black woman wears weaves or perms her hair, it's a no no, but if a person who isn't black changes their hair texture, it's "cool", "cute" or "hip". Not fair. Not fair at all.

  • I love your videos, you're so analytical. Anyway, I have natural hair and I agree that just because it's natural doesn't mean it's good. Black hair is inefficient. I takes so much time to maintain. It's a nuisance and science needs to do something to make our grooming process easier and faster.

  • it is self hate. if you are changing your type or bleaching your skin then it IS self hate.

  • @Enigmafly13

if you want to speak about nature then yes natural hair is still better.

Blacks do not have lice probs for a reason. our hair also helps us cool off faster.

  • Bravo!

  • Black hair is thicker to protect our scalp from the sun. Thinner hair does not protect their scalp from the sun so Caucasian, Asians have to wear hats more to protect their hair. On the other hand, longer hair protects their ears and neck from the cold.

  • thats was a good video

  • What's a regular black guy?

  • I agree. I cut my hair for my own reasons. Iam a hair stylist, and I love to do hair. It's creative, and fun. it s fine to try new things to "conform" to new fads. but it becomes self hate when u describe what u look like without the changes as "UGLY" I believe if u can embrass the fads u MUST embrass ur true self. do what u want to urself, but when u run from society as URSELF u need an intervetion. the big chop was my intervention. love u first;-)

  • @kianaW87 I agree, for BW conforming becomes self hate

if you'd rather die than wear your hair natural outside

when u are ashamed of your hair texture

when u are bothered by the fact that you think that men will no longer find you attractive if you have natural afro hair

that you'll no longer look employable

that you'll not look as desirable

that you'll look too intimidating and scary (coily hair & blackness africaness in general synonymous with masculinity & streenght because of slavery)

  • what the fuck is a regular black guy?

  • Chill out, I'm just saying not all blacks have kinky hair.

  • Not all black people have kinky hair look at the horn of Africa people

  • @ImThinkingShhhh

Why do you bring that up when I didn't say that?

  • @ImThinkingShhhh yeah yeah all hair is good

  • @ImThinkingShhhh

African Americans descend from kidnapped West Africans, West Africans (especially before Colonialisation mostly had tightly coiled afro hair

WTF? did i just hear her say Black skin isn't necessary?!? it helps protect u from the sun& its beautiful.

Black people can't be too dark btw. How can u be too dark? too dark for what?

    we didnt come together Black

&u got it the wrong way round, everybody looks different from us.

White people are only 15% of the population of the world

  • its ok. her voice reminds me of shirley from whats happening.

  • I think that we as Black people have the most unique hair on Earth. It is beautiful! I think that we have had a history of people telling us in so many words that our hair is bad. I think that if Blacks had enslaved Whites in Africa then Whites would want kinky hair. They would try to adapt to us. I think that it is self hate when a person NEVER wants to see their natural hair because they think that it is ugly. Who told us that our hair is ugly?

  • At 6 min mark or so you destroyed your own argument! Black men are the only men on the earth with our form of hair, but we don't conform. So I guess you're saying black men have a greater self awareness than EVERYBODY ELSE? The argument is weak sauce. Black people have been taught to hate themselves PERIOD. Weaves are just another way our insecurity's manifest themselves.

  • @sinistavoicez

I have not even spoken of weaves. I defended PERMS. You guys always like to jump to weaves because it's easy.

Black women altering the texture of their hair is not different than the things women of other races do to alter their texture & color of hair.

  • @UHeardMe1stTime Weaves perms same dern thing

  • @sinistavoicez Well, black men can shave their hair off and be ok. Black women can't do that because women are expected to have hair. Not liking black hair is normal in my opinion because it requires too much time and maintenance for less than favorable returns.

  • girl u put it out there!! this is sooo true I don't feel that becuz my hair is permed that this somehow means I don't luv me! the opposite is true! I perm my hair bcuz I find it easier to deal with & I can change it upwhen I get ready! we gotta learn to stop being so hard on each other & live and let live. with my permed hair I still embrass all of who I am. we r the original people where is the shame in that?

  • I'm black, but I wanted to make my penis "white" so I chopped in half to 7 inches

  • When conforming becomes a cultural practice that's where you have to draw the line. A Mohawk is just a temporary fad, but When you're indoctrinating young CHILDREN into a practice of SELF HATE altering their NATURAL hair. That's where you should notice the difference between conforming and self hate. Actually self hate influnced the decision to conform. Being made to feel wrong even if you know your right is how self hate works!

  • Thats sooo truee!!!!! ... now I don't agree with the we don't need our dark skin because we need it.. The reason why black ppl have wide noses because it lets more cooler air in to keep is cool from when we were in Africa White ppl have skinner noses to keep warm air in I def. agree with it we changed according to where we live just look at southern ppl vs northern ppl southern ppl have less body fat. northern ppl have more of it because we need it to keep warm

  • Dark skin is beneficial but it is not necessary to live. If it were, we would be the only race left with the exception of SOME Indians (from India).

  • Thats true for African Americans in the U.S..but the Africans in Africa need it. I don't believe lighter skinned people can survive in Africa for a long period of time.. Darker skin protects us from certain skin cancers and sunburn.. Sunburns can become infected

  • so not true. there are white people born in africa and have lived there all there lives, are they dead no, are they sick, no.

don't say things without facts. there are also light skinned African people with no mixture with other races, did they die no.

  • I hear what your saying ... of course now in modern times people can live where ever they want and live a long life.. but I'm talking about when we didn't have all this technology and things of that nature.. we depended on our bodies natural adaption to survive back then a white person in Africa and or light skinned african american 400yrs ago wouldn't have survived very long

  • I LOVED the elevator experiment.
