When you change the file that has the enchanting alphabet it changes for the whole game, not for only 1 texture pack as far as I'm aware.

That's probably why you see it like that.

first set online-mode on your server to off.

@ReptileRhapsody Chests have counted as transparent blocks like glass and slabs ever since they made them smaller and had the opening animation. So now they don't suffocate you and you can open chests when chest are above them. Hope I helped!

Oh, also, about the words. Basically, the default appears in the 'Standard Galactic Alphabet', from the Commander Keen games. However, if you modify a font file, not a texture pack, it will appear in plain english. Without modification, it just appears as a whole lot of runes, which looks much cooler.
