  • @h3soy2m so the mobs think a block is there and walk off. I think 1.2 may have nerfed signs though - i need to check.

  • @monkeyfarm Instaed of using signs use trapdoors, then set them open. i tested it they DO walk of the ledge

  • Im having hitbox issues, I built the bottom part just like you mentions, but im not being able to hti the mwith my sword, I need to either bow em or use a potion, any ideas?

  • @Gurgash2011 this is a server thing - i hear that it should be fixed in 1.2

  • @monkeyfarm improved ai might fix it so this doesnt work but mobs might still think of signs as a whole block because of the collision box

  • @brandon12345566 I tested this in 1.2, and it worked fine, probably because the drop is only 3 blocks each level.

  • @reubenalbert02 not really because the dropoff rings will have 3+ blocks open above them, allowing endermen. my 'mobs on demand' spawner doesnt have endermen but it uses more resources and more difficult to build.

  • @monkeyfarm I have 1 problem. in my mob spawner The creepers will explode.. do you have any idea how to make a mob spawner where no creepers spawn in or maybe a tutorial how to creepers don't explode on you?

  • @DefaultButtons creepers only explode if they see you or if they're attacked (like if a skeleton shoots at you but hits the creeper instead).

  • Even when I put the signs on all the drop offs the mobs still stand around the pads? I don't know what to do. Are there any other blocks like the sign that would trick the mobs ? ladders ? torches ? help !

  • @ItsJustAxel Same with me man i dont know why they just stand there doing nothing and hes mobspawner spawns a lot more mine spawns like 2 or something don get it

  • @XxHuZtLeRxXpsN Make sure you put a shit load of torches everywhere around the spawner and what i figured out is if u can get it to spawn more mobs, they just push eachother off and fall down.

  • @monkeyfarm yeah i know. the order from floor to roof is (Block, block, slab, block) so there is a block "hovering" above the slabs. but it puts off the darkest level of light. unless smooth lighting effects this. either way, you're awesome for coming up with this.

  • Is the pistonless waterless mob spawner better then the mob spawner that u have with pistons and water?

  • @statiol it depends if you want enderment or not. this one has endermen, the 'mobs on demand' spawner does not (however it works more efficiently)

  • @goldenboggie you probably need to light up all your caves in the area. my 'mob spawner basics' video has details.

  • For anyone who asks about the windows so you can see. i used half slabs all the way around because half slabs still block all light but you can see through them. works great.

  • @Pauli3M actually half slabs block some light, not all. so if you have slabs on the roof, you need them over a full block or light will reduce mobs.

  • @7Awesome212 you can, but it let's light through (which reduces mobs). If you use glass, make sure you make a large canopy like i did in the tutorial to block the sunlight.

  • @7Awesome212 I used half slabs to replace the glass panes because half slabs cut out all light but still let you see if there is activity inside.

  • @BakuKid010 it needs to be dark inside, so i recomment solid blocks. the glass was just for the demo so you could see inside.

  • This isn't working anymore in the new snapshots, because of the new mob AI. Mobs will no longer try to walk on signs.

  • @jerrylemons63 i dont recommend this design with spiders because it would take much to long for them to drop several layers. however, my new spawner (Mobs On Demand - tutorial) has a design that works with spiders.

  • @monkeyfarm I have build this trap like you and the monster fall down to the 2x1 area like in the end of this video. All great! I have 2 x 1 save blocks(like you did with the glass blocks in height of your head) so that I am around 1 block away from the feet of mobs. But I can't hit them with iron sword. Why? How to fix it? (Restart of the server doesn't help as well. (MC Version 1.1 Stable, Bukkit - Essential, AntiGuest, WorldGuard) Could it be obsidian?

  • @DjPjotsch in multiplayer, mob hitboxes are currently chest and above... but they're fixing that in minecraft 1.2. so that xp farm design will work in smp very soon. :)

  • This is quite an amazing trap. The only pain is having to repetetively make the signs but besides that when i made one it works perfectly. Easily got up to lvl 30+ in a matter of minutes

  • Now i have builded this in minecraft 1.1, but the mobs arent going down the canals, because the paintings dont work, now you they say to install the snapshot or wait for 1.2, but if i do this, i wont be able to go on my 1.1 world anymore, and everything will all be builded for nothing :(

    Does anybody have a solution for my problem please, maybe another method that works like the paitings in 1.2, but with maybe a diffrent thing for 1.1 then

  • @krzysio36 this will be fixed in 1.2... They changed mob ai and they were bouncing/spinning up there. But they've fixed it in the recent snapshots.

  • @monkeyfarm So there is no other way, then to start all over again in a 1.2 world?

  • @krzysio36 ??? this spawner will work better again once 1.2 comes out... so if youve already built it, just wait until 1.2 and it will work fine. (1.1 has mob AI issues that will be fixed in the update).

  • @monkeyfarm I dont think that you understand me, if you update your minecraft to 1.2 you wont be able to go on all your worlds from 1.1 anymore. But thanks for trying to help me anyway, much appreciated ;)

  • @krzysio36 This is incorrect. If you access a map made before 1.2 on a 1.2 minecraft client, the following happens:

    1) It SAVES the old world in it's pre-1.2 format

    2) It creates a NEW save file, of the old world, in the new format.

    So if you updated your 1.1 mob farmer to the current snapshot, you could still go back to your 1.1 world, but any of the changes that you made while using a 1.2/snapshot client would not be saved.

  • How far does your roof go out? 10 blocks further than the layer below?

  • @mattpaulnewton The roof was only out there to keep the pads dark (because i used glass walls for the demo)

  • @monkeyfarm Well, that's why I'm asking. I built this in the snapshot and the sunlight goes through it because it has that issue, but when I go back to 1.1 it's not there anymore. So I have no idea if my trap will work during the day unless I test it (It's currently incomplete).

  • @mattpaulnewton I think you should build it out at least 7 blocks on each side. that should reduce the light from 15 to <7-8. Did you have a solid block on the roof below the slabs? (slabs leak light).

  • @Erwunschik yeah, but if you'd have to either build a mobivator to get the mobs back up to the top, or kill them way underground.

  • Pressureplate + repeater + piston = Funnel that pushes them down when they spawn

  • i think water is way easyer to use o.o, or find 1 mob spawner, or just build a normal room with the canals, becouse if you build this in middle of real map, not mc editor flatland, mobs r gonna spawn around too, so this trap is like pretty useless and not efficient. :o

  • The mobs aren't treating the signs like a block. The only time they go down a level is if they get pushed by another mob. Any idea what I should do?

  • @Muntgamry depends which version you're playing... the latest snapshot has fixed a jumping/spinning problem with the mobs, so in 1.2 it should work ok. (or you can install the latest snapshot until then).

  • Won't this be more efficient with 4 blocks in between each layer? The slabs will prevent the endermen from moving, towards the drop off, a lot. And that way you can just put the slaps under the drops so they don't get too much fall damage

  • @icolurs you probably need to light up more caves in the area. mobs can spawn there instead if it's dark.

  • @anime1157 I have found one in the dugeon, but how do i place it in the air? having to kill them all with my sword usses up alot of resources ie iron and wood for sword

  • @TheTruckSimAddict you dont place dungeon spawners in there. Mobs spawn in the dark... These are just large dark rooms where mobs can spawn and fall into the trap.

  • @Rayeloy13 are all of your surrounding caves lit up? or just the ground? you need to light up the caves (watch my 'mob spawner basics' video.

  • WAIT A MINUTE. I just spent an hour and a half constructing this damn thing, but theres a HUGE flaw!!! when they fall from one level to the next, they take a half heart of damage!!! this is because it is THREE tall so that enderman can spawn!! D:

    WHAT DID I DO WRONG!

  • @DradyBuncan nothing wrong - you could exclude Endermen and build the levels two blocks high without the damage. (Or you could build my new spawner (Mobs On Demand).

  • @DradyBuncan this is the spawner part only (to make mobs spawn)... You can attach an XP farm to the bottom if you want (see my XP farm tutorial for that).

  • @Takemeout15 your absolutly right, had some problems with chilling mobs too but with the new Snapshot 12w07b it works very fine. Thx to Monkeyfarm :D

  • When I built my mob spawner the mobs just chilled at the break points and wouldn't move. Occasionally some fell, but not as many as yours. What do I do? Please help.

  • @ThePoPuLaHr mobs are now smarter and don't fall down as much

  • @ThePoPuLaHr there is a new mob AI that affected this (but partially a glitch - mobs bouncing/spinning). In 1.2 this should me mostly fixed, and the spawner will work (not 100% but ok) - Also, I have a new spawner design you can check out 'Mobs On Demand' which solves this problem.

  • @MrLuki6 yes, i used wool in this tutorial. i recommend not using glass to keep it dark enough though.

  • @betantinos007 endermen only pick up dirt, grass, sand, gravel, and a few other blocks... just use any 'stone' block and you'll be fine.

  • @AstroOwl Did you by any chance build it in multiplayer? This only works in SSP because the hit boxes is multiplayer are different, you can't hit their feet there.

  • @reapercool9 i don't recommend building it out of glass (it needs to be dark for mobs to spawn efficiently), but the main pad levels should be 24+ away from you, otherwise mobs will not spawn.

  • @MrMCBowtie not with this design... but check out my new spawner design (Mobs On Demand) - It has two versions, one for spiders... much better. I'll be doing a tutorial on it in a few days.

  • @ITzTom19981998 yeah, the new mob behavior increases the wait time a bit, but the most recent snapshot seemed to improve it... I also have a new spawner design (Mobs On Demand) if you're looking for a different design.

  • @Alex138765 the size of each floor isnt really important. the concept behind this is what matters... that each level shrinks down so the mobs have nowhere to go except off the edge... like a funnel.
