I am an instructor in Krav Maga and I am constantly trying to find new "reality based systems" and training in them to widen my repertoire and find the most effective techniques to teach my students. I have trained in KFM, Bartitsu and Kapap, and something that I have noticed is that there is a lot of overlap between these systems. In other words, a lot of the techniques are the same. However there are of course still differences, and I would recommend training in as many systems as possible.
Also who here if they wanted to take someone out would underestimate there prey by attacking form the front? Its a casual walk up ...blade to the liver take wallet walk out of there. So Martial art schools need to spend equal amount of time not just on technique but of awareness and how not to be there. How not to look like a target. This is dancing like watching a med training vid compared to battlefield roadside medical emergency care
In a pub or club or when your coming out of a shop your not in a suit ready for an assailant this is bull shit the only way to live like this is to live it that means you are constantly living on red alert (zanshin) or you practice weekly so it is a reflex motion. But for the average joe a £ 2.00 balde from Asda makes him history...but fortunatly the chances of that happening are rare. If some cunt wants your wallet give it to them. This is a belief system
This is the first Goshinkwai video that had techniques that made even a little sense. All the rest are at best wild and uncontrolled with a lot of wasted motion. THese are n ot magical or super techniques but they are the closest thing I've seen yet from Goshinkwai that appear somewhat effective
nice video if ur defending against people who dont know how to attack with a knife LOL.. with those who have had hand to hand combat with knives, ud best just avoid the situation by running like hell
Why are the teacher and opponent always the same height and build? They should have three types of opponents to go after the teacher, 1 a skinny fast man, 2 a very tall man, and 3 a man who would give shreck a run for him money. It's ok looking at all these moves, seeing how the teacher glorifies himself with an easy opponent, but trouble makers come in all shapes and sizes, and, yes, they too, watch this on youtube. So stay focused and know your limits.
Personally I like this style, but some of the techniques you show are way too difficult to perform under severe stress... however, a very interesting martial art !
I prefer the Kali and Wing Chun knife defences, where you don't rely on them going so outrageously wide with their strike that their forearm slips neatly under your armpit.
The key to all this is "distraction to the face". By making monkey faces, sticking your tongue out, singing a silly song, or pretending to kiss the would be assailant, you will get the required edge and can take these fuckers down. You can take them down to Chinatown.
You sound like a true knife guy, especially your awareness that's to say the OODA. I too, saw the same opening and like you was alarmed by the placement of the blade. Personally, I see these techniques as basic, because someone truly skilled in the principles of the OODA, would definitely have countered that move. Your are right there are no absolutes when attempting to counter a knife, because knife work is sobering to say the least.
Drunken; at 0:08-0:100:12-0:15(even in midair) 0:16-0:19 while there is a chance that the guys knife could slip through and slash you, or he could stab you in the back etc. the defender (guy without knife) is in excellent position to break the attackers elbow, or shoulder with this arm positioning. Furthermore, the knife isnt 'loose' id rather have some control than none... so given the fact that a fight involving a knife is already bad... I wouldnt overly worry about this situation.
Yeah, what you say makes sence the funny thing is that if you blast the face with distraction, it's very difficult to counter we have found, then you are already in position. But there's nothing full proof out there.
Adrenalin does funny things to fine motor control, pain registration, and even simple thought processes. Realistic and very instinctive training can help. As for the knife, any time you have a blade in contact with your skin its going to be a bad idea (just my opinion). At the same time, the way you respond to an attack shouldn't have such a small margin for error (imagine the knife had been aimed a little lower and the defender had responded in the same way).
The axilla, or armpit, is a localized region of the body between the upper humerus and thorax. It provides a passageway for the large, important arteries, nerves, veins and lymphatics which insure that the upper limb functions properly. In this instance it's the arm that's locked you can't lock a knife but if your close enough to the body it cannot be withdrawn to cause injury to the axilla.
Marco guy the commentator has been attacked in his line of work with all sorts of blades. If you have doubts though that's fine. We also have Maul mornie at a seminart shortly if you are really into the knife stuff you can work with a live blade. Thanks for your subscription, always good to take on thoughts.
Boy this is an old chestnut, ok if you show random rapid attacks with anything, it's all well and good looks realistic but you can't see what is going on. Stuff is done slow so you can see what is going on. At the end of the day they are just drills. What you are seeing is a drill, do it often enough, fast enough and it becomes natural to you.
Heres a tip..if u get attacked by a knife ..run..no one one is gonna fight a knife weilding attacker and not get seriously hurt..these silly un realsitic demos with almost static attackers shud be banned
Here's a tip don't judge people by your own crap standards, Marco has been attacked with real knives and bottles and is passing on some techniques here. You might stand by if somebody gets attacked but not other people.
For more techniques shown a lot slower and from varioius angles(even from overhead) there is a dvd available on the website, i've got a copy, it is amazing stuff.
You would have to go to lessons for this, you can't just watch a video and copy it, the strikes and submissions are too hard to perform under stress

Useful techs if you know exactly what the attacker is going to do. I mean _exactly_. Especially the knife defence was foolish.
