  • Okay, I've been eyeing the 2012 Chevy Sonic for a while now, but the G8 has always been a fav of mine as well. I'd be happy with either vehicle!

  • Australian imported...WHO CARES, IT'S HOT and I WANT ONE!! Lol

  • kinda wish the g8 was still in production

  • the 2008-2009 Pontiac G8 was assembled in

    Elizabeth, South Australia, Australia

  • @seanus71 I know you're post is a year or so old, but truly, you're a dumbass.

  • What do Austies make other than Holden?? lol!!!

  • @chltmdwp It's Aussies not Austies. In cars: Ford Falcon, Ford Territory...

  • the car is american and australian. or.. american engine and badge.

  • you guys get crap lookin 1s here in australia they are not to bad well in spec's compair to urs our 1s in australia are alot better to urs in desing interor specs and running gear

  • you guys get shit lookin 1s here in australia they are not to bad well in spec's compair to urs our 1s in australia shit all over urs in desing interor specs and running gear

  • GM NEEDS TO GET PONTIAC BACK!!!

  • @313hotboi yes at least the g8 as a chevy badge

  • @313hotboi AMEN!! The G8 is one of the hottest and most underrated cars by Pontiac. Overall, they've made pretty good cars, but this one has always caught my eye, because I haven't seen lots of them on the road, but when I have, they look so awesome traveling down the street!

  • @Orbot Yes! And it's sad that the one GREAT car they build dies after only 2 years. The nailed nearly every aspect of this car and its gone. The only thing this car was missing was some material upgrades, and today's fuel efficiency standards. If only they kept Pontiac and gave the G8 a few updates, it could have saved GM from their crisis.

  • @313hotboi Agreed! The G8 the way it was, was amazing, but can you imagine the upgrades they could've made on an already potentially grea, had they still been in business and making the G8? It's really a very sad thing if u think about it.

  • man I love this car!

  • Id really like this car if they didnt steal the hood from junkyard grand ams

  • @burninrock24 You could always fit it with some of the panels from its Australian "parent car" the VE Holden Commodore. With the exception of some HSV models (Holden's tuning division) most Commodores don't have the hood scoops, and have a better proportioned front bumper and grille

  • feeling so flyy like a g8!

  • Weird, it's got bits from all of GM's car brands.

It looks like a Vauxhall/Opel Vectra platform with the rear from a Saab 95, the front of a Holden and a sickly mish-mash of different parts in between.

It's probably very good and I bet it does a lot of things well, but it's giving me a headache just looking at it.

  • @Imoverallbetterthanu The platform it sits on was designed by Holden, and while some parts come from the international GM parts bin, everything is Holden's own handiwork. The Holden version is a bit more subtle than this. The Vauxhall VXR8 in Australia is the Holden Special Vehicles VE Club Sport R8. The SS model, which is the closest Australian equvalent to this one, looks better than this. The only Changes Pontica made was LHD, badging and bumpers

  • man to bad pontiac aint making cars no more

  • another good brand GM discontinued, first Saturn, now Pontiac.....

  • i disagree, the interior feels very cheap and tacky, everything is clipped together and it all feels like its going to break and it scratches far too easily, definately a substandard effort by Holden, but that said the interior quality is that cars only real flaw.

  • Boy I wish they still made the G8. :(

  • @massltca Same here...

  • @massltca we still make our commodore but your shit company GM ran out of money and couldnt afford to buy them anymore.

  • @battysnugbug, yeah I know, I'm not happy with GM at all. They fucked up and ran straight to the government for a bailout, which comes right out of my pocket.

  • Does anyone own a G8? I'm 6.5'' and I was thinking about buying a used one. Think I'll fit?

  • yEAH.. but uh.. GM owns Holden.

  • sexy

  • this is the best review i have seen from 1:20 on is the goo bit of it

    australian cars look better :)

  • I Like That Car I think it is cool I want a lot of cool vehicles I want a lot That I Think Are cool, luxury, Fancy, Nice, Awesome, and more In my opinion

  • It's a shame GM didn't carry this over after they killed Pontiac. They could have called it a Chevy Caprice or something else. A great car that didn't deserve to die.

  • @somewhatlongdong the chevy caprice is a holden too lol

  • @hvk50L it's unavailable in north america.

  • my dads friend just smoked one in his firebird but they were side by side at 115 mph than my dads friend stepped on it and smoked the chipped g8

  • my dads friend just smoked one in his firebird but they were side by side at 115 mph than my dads friend stepped on it and smoked the chipped g8

  • m3 copycat? i guess it is..

  • @ForTheFS

except the m3 is a coupe....

  • we have this car as a Chevy Lumina and Caprice in Saudi Arabia. Chevy Lumina in Saudi Arabia and Pontiac G8 in the U.S has the same exact body size, also they look alike in the interior. But the Caprice is a lot bigger than the G8 in body size. when u buy one of those cars u can get a 3.8L V6 with 240HP engine or a 6.0L V8 with 360HP. really nice affordable car. sorry if there any grammar or spelling mistakes.

  • Ive always owned Holden cars and they have always had 3 good things that keep me coming back them. Boot space (fits a 4x12 speaker cab with room to spare. Reliability, never once has one broken down and long distance driving they are perfect

  • australia? no wonder i smelled dingo dung in there

  • yeah, it's not perfect but is one hell of a car. Aussie can design cars better than Americans.

  • Don't be an asshole.

  • A great car.

  • Australia!

  • so what the diferent between the pontiac &lumina

  • no differences only badge & name

  • @hmto942 Chevy badging, Lumina badging, and Pontiac took it upon themselves to mess with the front end styling

  • With the death of Pontiac, GM makes nothing I like.

  • the g8 is just a rebadged holden commodore, so they still do make it.

  • @ILVRACN Although the next Chevy "police Caprice" is really a Holden Caprice, the long wheelbase brother of the G8. IT's stripped down for police work, but will still go just as hard as a G8, possibly even better

  • get rid of the crappy impala and replace it with the g8

  • so since pontiac is no more, what happens with the vehicle warranty? take it to a chevy dealer?

  • Premium feel? In a Pontiac, come on....

  • i cant wait to buy a retired police car g8..

  • Well its a real shame GM is ditching Pontiac, just hope for you guys that they ressurect G8 under another brand, It really is a good car and great value for money.

  • i want them to bring over the vauxhalls vxr over here to canada, the g8 is not like the real vxr even tho its s spin off model, i want a car with the noise of the VXR8, it sounds soooooooooo good!!!!

  • @Bosnian519 That's because the G8 is based on the VE Holden Commodore SS. The VXR8 is based on the Holden Special Vehicles VE Club Sport R8. Holden's tuning wing simply rebadged them for Vauxhall in England. You could easily bolt on all the parts necessary to make it a Club Sport R8, or convert an R8 to LHD with a G8's dash, steering rack and possibly firewall section

  • The nose cone they stuck on it makes it look quite ugly. Completely ruined it's look. Why try and fix something that doesn't need fixing?

  • this review is dry!

  • Personally I don't give a rip where it's built or who owns who...the car ROCKS! Too bad GM is chopping Pontiac from the lineup...Not one of the wisest moves on their part IMO.

  • The Holden Commodore and it's re badged variants like the Pontiac G8 are actually sold under 8 different brand names. And are on sale on every Continent in the world except Antarctica.

Holden Commodore, HSV Clubsport R8 - Australia and New Zealand (Main Markets)

    Pontiac G8 - US

    Vauxhall VXR8 - UK

Chevrolet Lumina SS, CSV CR8 - South Africa and the Middle East

    Daewoo Veritas - Korea

    Buick Park Avenue - China

All are built and fully assembled in Australia under Holden.

  • wow I knew about the Vauxhall, Chevy, and Holden variants but the Daewoo and Buick variants are such a surprise

that Buick variant seems like a mismatch but looks sick

  • The Buick Park Avenue, Daewoo Veritas and Chevrolet Caprice(Middle East) are essentially Long-Wheelbase version's.

Which are essentially a re-badged Holden Statesman/Caprice, or HSV Grange.

  • fuckin awesome

  • I think the important point here in the Aus v US debate is Holden designed this vehicle. This vehicle is Australian as it is built by General Motors Holden (GMH), not General Motors (GM). There is a vast difference. GMH is a subsidiary of, but entirely different company to GM. All technical, design, research, testing, marketing/sales is performed by Holden. Holden has been in Australia long before GM took an interest in it. Hope you Yanks enjoy the G8. The HSV is even better.

  • The only thing GM fans care about with this vehicle, are the engine and transmission, neither are holden derived but both are GM build and design.

  • Both are reworked by Holden you tool! Also, engine would be no fucken good in a shit chassis. Wake up idiot!

  • Seriously, stop with the name calling. Try and have an adult conversation. Name calling on the internet, its just pointless.

Reworked? How so? Its a basic L76 for the GT and LS3 for the GXP, nothing different from the plant itself for the transmission either.

"The engine would be no fucken good in a shit chassis"

Obviously you havent seen the unfortunate selection of the majority of GMs past products lol

  • Heads, induction, throttle bodies, engine mapping, sleeves and crank are re engineered by holden, so to the shift patterns and calibration with the box. As for chassis, thats my point. This is an Australian chassis. You guys had nothing to offer. You could have the worlds best engine, but put it in a billy cart and it would be useless. As for the name calling, dont be a wallflower. Aussies are sick of Yanks claiming it as yours. Watch UK topgear, atleast there honest in calling it Aussie.

  • Honestly Americans hated the GTO version and the G8 didnt sell so well due to poor advertisement and bad judgement calls by doing away with pontiac.

Youll be happy to know that most True fans of the vehicle know were its from and you can find a many holden body conversions. So it at least resembles its original nature, before being beaten by the Pontiac ugly stick.

I watch London top gear on frequent occasion.

What do you expect of GM fans, they havent had a real RWD coupe since -

  • Since the 1993-2002 F-Bodies, depending on year could have a .86-.92 on the skid pad and run a 12.9 1/4 mile.

    Lacked in interior quality.

  • g8=l98 engine

    gxp=ls2 engine

  • GT uses the L76, the L98 was used in the early model C4s from 1985-1991

  • @jron312

i have the middle eastern version , and the engine is L98

  • oh ok, I was referring to the American, I had no idea there was a difference

  • @jron312 Maybe similar engine designations but they are Gen IV's. Did they make Gen IV V8's between '85-'91?

  • @seanus71 yanks? oh yeah by the way say hi to steve irwin for me.....oh wait.....

  • @khdude2000 Hey douche - most Aussies hated Steve and he was more known in your shithole. When he died Aussies didn't care like you wanks did.

  • @BarneyBenar hey fag - why r u even watching a video about cars anyway? im pretty sure that the main method of transportation for your lot is by kangaroo, so fuck off

  • @khdude2000 LOL - keep your gayness to yourself kid, it's very obvious.

  • @BarneyBenar coming from the faggot named barney....

  • @seanus71 i agree hsv much better if gm wants to sell more of these just sell the hsv dont go putting different styling on them either

  • @seanus71 But because GM OWNS GMH (as your own choice of word "subsidiary" implies), then this car, is for all intents, a GM car. P.s. Your Commodore looks silly without the hood scoops.

  • @seanus71

    was the term "yanks" necessary?

  • @Rycon182 lol his not trying to offend, us Aussies like to take the piss (joke around) we even do it to ourselves.

  • @holdenls1ssz

gotcha, so hard to tell on the internet

  • @seanus71 thats cool that makes me think of when when holden copied the U.S. GTO and rebadged it the comedor or something gay like that. besides the HSV couldnt hold a candle up to a Corvet, or Dodge Viper. so enjoy your smugness in ONE well made australian car, Cause America Started the muscle car era and still produces far better sports cars then australia ever did or ever will. And i dont know if yanks is ment to be an insult towrds Americans, but if it is then your an ignorant douche!

  • will 215/55r18 fit on my g8

  • 245/45r18 = g8

  • Look this is what i think ok.... you can take the car out of the country, but cant take the country outta the car... everyone is always gonna look at the G8 and know that it came from Australia. its ok it wont last long with the wanky's anyways....

  • we got something yous want more of and yous cant have it so ur throwing a pansy little tantrum like a typical american does in hope that yous will get a fucking awesome car like this, but you's wont, unless you find a way of trying to make a prius (we call it a sewing machine) go 0-60 in 5.1 secs... anyways i'd love to see you go to a true blue aussie and say that the commy is american, man you'd be one fucked up red neck... and im sure lots of other aussies agree.. so as it goes "suck on it" ?

  • uhm righto, everyone who reads what you just wrote will think what a fucking cock sucker... Holden wont get dropped anytime soon, they got way too many sponsors, not too mention HSV and V8 supercars.. not gonna happen... but you wont understand coz ur not from aus... and if pontiac where doing so well with the GTO then how come they imported our monaro? and thats actually a legit question. that would be like us importing the Grand Prix and calling it a commodore.. just doesnt make sense.

  • Ok lets get this all straight, you guys will never get a car like this again, its a one off just to give you dumb yanks a taste of what us aussies can up with, second, our holden ute is not a"sports truck" or an "el fucking camino" or a "truck" or fucking whatever else, its a ute, ok true fucking blue ute, last but not least, go take ur fucking chrysler's and ur fucking BMW's and taking them in a field and start ur demo fucking derby, because thats all there gonna be good for... happy days!!

  • Oh no. Our secret is out. lets hope they dont find out about HSV.

  • @tryhardparrot If they did, it would help generate a huge "war chest" for Holden, and maybe Ford Australia could take a hint and make the rivalry international. Have you parked a BF or FG Falcon alongside a well body F-100? Notice anything familiar about the tray? That's right, Ford Australia "narrowed and shortened" the F-100 tray to fit lol

  • I LOVVVVVVVEEE G888

  • Aussies actually have a much higher minimum hourwage than the US

  • HOLDEN! I love those cars! I think G8 is based on Commodore...right?

  • right.

  • @looxgood Yes, although IMO the Holden Commodore and its heavily tuned brother the HSV Club Sport R8 (AKA Vauxhall VXR8) look much better than what Pontiac did to them

  • I wish GM would take more designs and motifs from their Australian and European divisions and bring them to the US. Now that Pontiac has been euthanized, it would be great to see the G8 as an Impala redesign or a Caprice revival. Under a Chevy flag, I predict a Commodore-based car would do well in the US (maybe even well enough to devote North American factory space to it).

  • @HeadTater The Holden Caprice is coming to North America as a police cruiser in 2011, wearing Chevy badges

  • I like the G8, I just wish GM didn't bastardize the front end to that BMW wannabe look that Pontiac goes for and kept it looking like the Commodore.

  • WOH WOH WOH this thing is posi rear wheel drive? i did not expect that! i didnt think car manufacturers were that cool still...interesting....

  • obviously you have never been or even heard of australia then because, our 2 biggest competitors here, are ford and holden and both still build rear wheel drive car cars (Holden commodore, which the G8 is based on, and the Ford Falcon xr6 which you's dont have lol)

  • Ok?....thanks tips, already knew all that. After the mid 1980s most companies switched to a FF layout as opposed to FR, with the acception of their staple sports cars. So its suprising that this 30 grand peice of import shit is rear wheel. I hear they have abnormal front end wear problems anyway. GM and Chev for life I wouldnt be caught dead in a rebadged import peice of garbage.

  • rebadged piece of garbage, funny that, it seems 98% of yanks want this car to stay? some suggesting that it should even come back as a buick or chevy. hmm.. seems a bit funny that u would want 2 contradict ur ppl like that... maybe you need to review some of the comments other people have made... atleast your pretty much the first yank to realise the "G8" as its called, is not yours... milestone right there mate. happy days

  • @Pana69sonic Bear in mind this is the work of GM Holden Australia, not GM USA

  • yes yes yes

  • aussie Holden

  • opel vectra

  • the g8 need a spoiler, look alot better

  • Holden Commodore!!!

  • w00t mah dad got one and it gonna be mah 1st car

  • gota love that commodore ve

  • monaro vxr8 coppy

  • its the same thing! the same factory spits them out

  • g8...... yeahhh

  • yes its based on a VE Commodore from australia because i live here they just re-badged it to pontiac for the U.S. the u.s. would call our holdens a GM & holden is of course part of the GM network. E.g. Opel, chevy,GMC,cadillac, Buick, Dodge. I own a 2001 vxii commodore acclaim myself & its a 3.8 LTR Ecotec V6 & the engine is an american Buick. There is nothing quite like a holden/GM

  • im surprised its from australia, its a great car, and gm is going to keep it alive as the chevrolet caprice.

  • It's already being sold as a "Chevrolet Lumina SS" and "CSV CR8" in South Africa and the Middle East.

In the UK its sold as a "Vauxhall VXR8".

In Australia and New Zealand where its main markets are, it's a "Holden Commodore" or "HSV".

It's sold under 6 different brand names, all a built and fully assembled in Australia by Holden.

  • @BetoG34 They knew Pontiac was in trouble, so they asked the real tuners to build a ball tearer for them. If Pontiac had imported the HSV version, they'd still be in business

  • RIP Pontiac???? WTF??? Pontiac is timeless!! Firebirds and Trans Ams never die. GM only discontinued due to almost being bankrupt. more like RIP Hummer or RIP Saab

  • Isn't the G8 based on the Holden VE Commodore SS?

  • What the hell are you talking about. GM owns Holden nubsauce. :P

  • Lamborghini is owned by Volkswagen and was owned by Chrysler, does that make it German and American? Skoda is Czech, owned by VW, is it German?

  • actually dailmer owned chrysler....

  • read it properly. Lamborghini was owned and purchased by Chrysler for 7 years during 1987

  • read what faggot? chrysler sucks? damn straight, that is why Fiat is gonna own their ass. Chyrsler is now a europeon company.

  • The fuck is up your ass, redneck cunt.

  • RIP Pontiac

  • jermz026, that should be 'you need not call people idiots when it is you who *are* the idiot.' Not "you who is the idiot." Idiot.

  • RIP Pontiac.

  • I have a Pontiac dealer next to my house, and I must say, this thing looks WAY better in real life.

  • I am gonna miss the Pontiac brand I wish BMW would buy the brand.

  • This guy's an idiot. All Pontiac cars have their window switches in the center. And he didn't even mention that it was RWD. BTW, Lutz says the G8 is staying as the new Impala, which is excellent news.

  • Ah, now, as of July 17, Lutz, on his blog, says the idea of keeping the G8 as a Chevy is scrapped.

  • mine didn't!!!! i had the Pontiac Gran Prix sport package and it didn't have it!!! i don't have no more now i have the nissan maxima 09 i gave my gran prix to my son

  • The Holden Caprice seems to have the switches in the middle as well. But my Pontiac Sunfire has them in the middle, and an older Grand Am had them in the middle too. So I stand corrected the guy's only half idiot.

  • Pontiac G8 in USA is Holden Commodore in Australia, Vauxhall VXR in United Kingdom, Chevrolet Caprice in Asia (middle east) and Buick Park Avenue in China.

    Cool ey?

  • kildac? are you completely ignorant, the car was designed in Australia under a BILLION dollar overhaul from the VZ commodore. the result, the VE commodore. it was designed and created by Australians, the Holden Monaro is another fine example...your new Pontiac GTO. the cars incorporates gm parts with Australian DESIGN!! so grow a brain.

if you want to see a real piece of artwork i suggest you look at what the G8 could look like..HOLDEN HSV R8

  • are you crazy??!!!! dont tell or show them the R8, greedy motherfuckers might get there hands on that too,, lol.. sorry man.. im just soo fucking pissed that the yanks got our car for like 2 mins and wanna call it theres, i guees im one of the aussies that are wiling to speak out about how disrespectful it is to australia to export the commy to th US.. Greedy mother fuckers, go kiss Obamas stinkin ring

  • Holden may be a GM Subsidiary, But the Pontiac G8 is Built and Fully Assembled at the Elizabeth plant in South Australia.

Calling it an American car is like saying that Mini Coopers are German because their owned by BMW yet there made in Oxford UK.

Or saying that Jaguar and Land Rover are both Indian because there owned By Tata yet both are made in the UK.

  • It's not from a Holden Commodore it is a Holden Commodore.

"Changes to the design", Different front body kit, add some fake bonnet scoops and swap the badges, thats all it is.

You realize this car is sold under six different brand names right?

Chevrolet Lumina SS & CSV CR8 - South Africa and the Middle East.

    Pontiac G8 - United States.

    Vauxall VXR8 - United Kingdom.

Holden Commodore & HSV Clubsport R8 - Australia and New Zealand (Main Markets)

Also that "American" engine is made in Mexico.

  • Do you have any idea what you talking about?

So what your saying is that they're actually fake on the G8 but not the GXP?

Pontiac G8's are built and fully assembled in Australia by Holden.

Holden's been selling Commodore's since the mid 1970's in Australia and New Zealand.

It was only with the VE series Commodore that came out in 2006 that Holden started Exporting.

Only a small percentage of them were built in left hand drive and re badged and sold in the US as Pontiacs.

    1:24

  • Good point castle001

  • @seanus71 I agree mate, but GM is our big brother, we look after them, they look after us, I have a 6.0L V8 VE SS and i have to admit that Corvette engine and gearbox are strong as fuck!

  • was here to save pontiac ...opps didnt work

  • Lol...the hood overhangs throw off the premium feel. What a dummy. Yeah when I'm driving it I know the hood has a slight overhang and it makes it feel less premium. Again, what a dummy. This guy needs to get a job that showcases his talents. Like a pie taster or a road sign washer.

  • do you get the bonnet scoops on the UK version (Vauxhall VXR8)?

  • @iamthestig1 Will require some bodywork. You can do it one of two ways: 1. import a Pontiac G8 bonnet, and possibly "file off" the bit that meets the grille split in the G8 or 2. have that section cut from a G8 bonnet and weld it in yours

  • I don't think they "turn into crap" after being sent to the US. The G8's are superior to our Commodores in regards to performance as their vehicle regulations allow for more power than in Australia. Some of the comments sound like some people here are not from Australia... (killdac?) Just to clarify in case you don't know, the Australian VE Commodore - designed and built in Australia for the Australian market came first and the US G8 is born from that car.

  • Why do we have to export our beloved cars to America and turn them into crap?

  • its still an american brand and would have never been made in australia without americas gm that makes cars in many diffrent countries that arent the same as the ones they make back home and they simply decided to start selling this model in the states so its really an american car...

  • nope its not an australian car

  • You're right and you're wrong. The engines are from Chevrolet GM but the whole design concept is from Australia. They started the whole thing in 97.

  • your a fucking cunt... you need to do your fucking reasearch properley you dumb fuck. you fucking yanks are just jealous that you's didnt get this car first,a nd you's got sloppy seconds so to speak. have fun with that.

  • lol, all holden is is gm in australia, don't get too big of a head there. that company is 100% gm, different name.

  • But thank goodness Holden won't get tie up into GM's mess. it goes to see the consequences of poor management and who said Amercians are good at Business?

  • @666demonknight666 They went from a $750 million loss in 1987, to $120 million profit in 2008. Thanks to ever expanding markets, that continues to grow

  • this car is not comparable to the ones in the sixties. i bought one . it is SOLID. the rides yields to the performance. so if you cant handle that, maybe go buy a used bonneville. this car screams (although not a true gm product in my opinon) but yes, i am an owner, and YES....this is the real deal. i have owned 16 new cars over my 44 years, and this one is the full meal deal. all it needs is upgraded exhaust and intake. long live the RED DART !!!
