  • A common malfunction is slightly pressing the magazine catch so the magazine drops down slightly. When this happens, the next round doesn't chamber and you get a click instead of bang. Tapping (slapping) the magazine reseats the magazine so you can go back to shooting.

  • I've noticed people slapping the magazine when they come to a dummy round. Is that to simulate a reload?

  • awesome music

  • The song is a remix from DJ Siamey.

Nothing wrong with the gun. Those are the dummy rounds. Really they're for evaluating trigger manipulation, malfunction clearance is a secondary training benefit.

  • HeadHunter, That looks like a great drill. I hope I get to do some training with you some day.

  • HeadHunter, what's the name of that song? It's pretty cool.

  • What was wrong with your gun?

A ball and dummy drill is when your magazine is randomly loaded with inert rounds ("dummies"). The goal is to practice malfunction drills. Ideally, a training partner will load the magazine for you, so you don't anticipate the dummies.

  • @leodaher . I had never heard that before and i did not see it on the link from Enos that brought me here. Thanks, at least no one else will think that now.

I need to make a correction to my previous post: after reading HeadHunter's comments in another discussion board, I realized his goal in using ball and dummy in that training session was to work on some trigger manipulation issues and not malfunction clearing. My bad.
