Dave, do you have any tips for videoing your flights? I just ordered a GoPro camera for this purpose, and would like to hear how you "aim" the camera to keep the bird in the frame. Thank you for your service to our hobby, and our country!
@derniko1992 Have you ever flown a micro heli up an old Paki womans flowing robes ? Last Friday I landed my Blade CX on this old cunts greasy turban, he shit out last nights curry the black cunt. . . . . .
Hello, I have one question... I've bought the Chinook S022. What's that about the mode? In the vid when you show up the CH-47, you talk about mode 2 and mode 3, what's that?
Hello Mr. My name is Ruben Fernandez, I have been watching your videos and I really like your reviews and specially this, is it posible you can buy or get a large falcon 3 channel helicopter from Yiboo and post a review from this chopper.
hi i have been thinking about getting the EXI 450 kit and i am wondering if you cound not put the 6 ch servo in and make it a 4 ch heli or how does that work please reply
.... my X-twin by plane has served me well for the past 2 years but the engine finally died so iv got a new one its great like ure video its cool thanks for it
Mode 1 in this video is talking about the rudder control. Usually on 4 chanell helis, the tail rotor fuction is controlled by the throttle stick. With these helis, them being 3 channels, the throttle stick only goes up and down. The tail rotor fuction is on the right stick. This will be confusing if you get used to this transmotter fuction and try to move on to more advanced helis that are mode two. In mode two on 4 channel helis, the right stick controlls the side to side motion of the heli.
Its a certain setup of a controller. Mode one is when the throttle is on the right i think. Mode two (Moslty used in britain) is when the throttle is on the left along with the rudder and the ailerons and elevator is on the right.
You could switch the sticks on the Tx's, which would solve the Mode 1/3 problem. I've seen you do it b4. It seems that lights are becoming more the standard lately. I wonder where the mfgr's got that idea?? Somebody is paying attention! I like the "metallicized" one best! Great reiew as always, Dave. 5 stars!
Hey, I had one of those! It worked great until that spring broke at the base and that was it for the Verti Bird! I was so bummed! When was that, about 1972 or 73?
Yes, that is pretty close to when I got my Vertibird. I remember getting it for Christmas, and Santa failed to bring BATTERIES for it. That's just plain cruel!
Haha! I agree. Santa DID bring me batteries. Maybe you misbehaved the week before and he was punishing you, LOL! He makes a list and checks it twice you know!
Just think, Dave was ALREADY an experienced RC pilot when we were getting our Verti Birds in the early 1970's, haha! Kinda puts it in perspective, eh?
That was around the time when I first saw someone flying an RC plane too. (early 70's) I was too young and way too poor to afford one. I had to wait until I was 20 or so to build my first RC plane.
Good video. I thought it was interesting how you could actually fly the Apache and liked it. Because I bought two of them both of which had problems. Apart from being crap to fly it had a dodgy charger, the switch broke off (just by the force needed to switch it, not by a crash) and on the second charge it simply didn't have enough power to get off of the ground ON FULL THROTTLE!. So I ended up getting a "Twister Hawk" which costs more but is heaps better, I'm extremley happy with it.
I've just started getting interested in rc helis, and have been looking at e-flite's mcx to start out. After seeing videos like this, I'm starting to wonder if helis like the mcx are really overpriced. Over $100 vs. around $50 for some of these....is/are the difference(s) worth the higher price? Some of these seem to fly fairly well.
There is a big difference. E-flite is a well known brand, replacement parts available, better quality heli's then most of these. The most important difference... it's a 4 channel, it will fly faster then any of these, better overall performance (more controls), and better transition into a 6 channel chopper. The mcx is harder to fly (I have flown one but don't own). Owning an e-flite blade cp (6 channel) and an align trex 450 (6 channel), I'd reccomend an mcx. 3 channel = fun TOY as stated.
Hey! dave i have that Syma heli it was my first i crashed that thing so many times it was crazy and very hard crashes it just never broke that thing to this day is indestructable and very easy to fly
I have that apache in the lower left corner at :08. Very stable. Durability is good too, I've hit the ceiling over 20 times and the blades are still perfect!
wow that is some collection. i like the looks of most of them, i think the second to last one was the best [my opinion]. Nice flying on all of them. i think its a real downfall if you can't tell if the heli is charged or not. anyway, nice video as usual mr. herbert.
nice heli review my local radio shack/rc shop has a few small helis like those and they are around that price range they also like the larger apache are mode1/3? and they look nice for the money to have fun with good job not killing the cat with the rotors
Dave-Great Video. Its actually not mode one. Mode one has throttle on the right stick with ailerons. The reason they put the rudder on the right is because everyone is used to the turning on the right. Sure if someone is used to rudder on the left they could change it-but me personally-It doesnt bother me with the rudder on the right and It hasnt made me confused when I Fly my 4 channel helis after my 3 channels. Thanks for these great videos! I always look forward to them. :)
3ch from toy shop and 4ch from real hobby toy ? u cant even match them. ill reather like esky lama than anyone from this vid ^^ but i dont say its not nice vid
Was your first car a manual with 500hp? Now do you see the point of 3-channel helis? Sure, you don't have as much control, but you also don't have as much coordination when you first begin flying. Taking away one function makes for a cheaper heli and much smoother beginning flights.
U convinced me to start my own 3 directional mini / micro chopper collection. i already have a 6020-1 and a bell M.A.S.H style army medivac twister 4 channel. Great Vid ... 5/5
Hey Dave, why are you calling them mode 1 if the Throttle was on the left stick? Afaik it is normal for 3 channel mode 2's to have rudder on right stick just like the helis you reviewed or planes like Vapour and Ember.

even though they are toys, some of them look pretty neat,
i mean it wasnt that long ago they launched the picco z and look how far that technology has come
i think the ones with the little blinky lights would be better if they made them like little scale nav lights like on real helis
that would be really sweet
my son used to practice on piccoz now he flys my blade msr :D so most of these could prepare people for more advanced helis i think :D
nice job :)
