Obama never said he wanted a "war" in Pakistan. He said he would strike al Qaeda leadership in Pakistan if he gets the intelligence and the Pakistani government can't/won't act -- meaning an airstrike or something similar -- not a full scale war with the nation of Pakistan. Obama is well aware that Bin Laden and other top leadership are hiding in the tribal region of Pakistan.
I agree with you in that coverage could be better, no doubt about that. However name me one news organization that does have manipulative intent. Many regard news organizations that often supports their views are good, but however regard others as biased. As non-white Canadian, while travelling in Europe I experienced a lot of racism and hatred - European media may offer better coverage in Afghanistan, but turn a blind in regards to other issues such as treatment of minorities.
No media is perfect, and every country has to use an international media source to find out more of the actions of their own government I find.
But the US media is the biggest propoganda war machine I've ever seen and it has helped me understand their views. US CNN is very different from international CNN on the coverage of IRaq, Afghanistan, Israele- Palestine.
They never report how many civilians died in Afghanistan, Iraq & soon Pakistan by NATO bombs to understand resistance to occupation.
We see this quite often in media in where countries are engaged in conflict. Russia - Chechnya conflict, France and the colonies in Africa....heck we even seen it here in Canada when our police and military were in two armed engagements with groups of our aboriginal people (Oka and Gufstistan Lake) The news was essentially geared towards to nationalist belief. When I watched the America new regarding the conflicts here in Canda it was completely different.

That idiotic WSJ OpEd about Bush being Batman made me think only that the only thing that applies is that this Admin is every bit as pessimissic and paranoid as that film (which I did enjoy). As a Canadian I'm exicted to have Obama possibly as the next president. Finally someone in the White House who dioes not see the world as black and white, or have a us vs. them mentality. The "socialist/Marxist" accusers seem to be poorly educated. I`ve never really undestood why some americans have a problem with taking care of the unfortunate- I think it is a part of a modern civilized country. You cannot choose your social background, true freedom is the freedom of opportunities, which means for instance that you can get a high education regardless of your parents financial situation.

Budget surplus? lol....When Bush 1 left office clinton was handed a gold mine of an economy, that thrived for 5 to 6 years; until Clinton decdided to raise the capital gains tax and income tax on the rich. then his NAFTA treaty started reaping its benefits for foreign countries and chasing business away here. so by 1999 we were headed in a recession! As for you thinking in short terms , Bush 2 actually had better number the 1st 7 years, even after 9/11 and 2 wars MORON!

Great inspirational speach in Berlin from Obama, in this following decade people are going to have to come to terms with the fact that technology (like youtube) is making the world smaller and we are all citizens of the same fragile world.

The America we love is the America without torture, without Gitmo, but the America which instead defends human rights around the world and does not flush them down the toilet in the persuit of mere power or wealth. his speech was great, but your lines about America "leading the world" is just sick and revolting. If anything we (the rest of the world) wanted America to learn from the Bush years that you are not the center of the universe, you do not lead the world. You are no more or less important than any other nation. I love Obama he will be a great leader for the US, but Americans really need to learn some humility on the international stage.

Obama never said he wanted a "war" in Pakistan. He said he would strike al Qaeda leadership in Pakistan if he gets the intelligence and the Pakistani government can't/won't act -- meaning an airstrike or something similar -- not a full scale war with the nation of Pakistan. Obama is well aware that Bin Laden and other top leadership are hiding in the tribal region of Pakistan.
He will draw down troops in Iraq.
Afghanistan DOES need more troops.

Is it any wonder why violence has increased in Afghanistan seeing you as an invading enemy.
Your media doesn't show you the human cost of war. It makes you think somehow using war is a means of peace and liberation.
Infact the US media unlike the other NATO nations has zero coverage of the Afghanistan war.

I agree with you in that coverage could be better, no doubt about that. However name me one news organization that does have manipulative intent. Many regard news organizations that often supports their views are good, but however regard others as biased. As non-white Canadian, while travelling in Europe I experienced a lot of racism and hatred - European media may offer better coverage in Afghanistan, but turn a blind in regards to other issues such as treatment of minorities.

No media is perfect, and every country has to use an international media source to find out more of the actions of their own government I find.
But the US media is the biggest propoganda war machine I've ever seen and it has helped me understand their views. US CNN is very different from international CNN on the coverage of IRaq, Afghanistan, Israele- Palestine.
They never report how many civilians died in Afghanistan, Iraq & soon Pakistan by NATO bombs to understand resistance to occupation.

We see this quite often in media in where countries are engaged in conflict. Russia - Chechnya conflict, France and the colonies in Africa....heck we even seen it here in Canada when our police and military were in two armed engagements with groups of our aboriginal people (Oka and Gufstistan Lake) The news was essentially geared towards to nationalist belief. When I watched the America new regarding the conflicts here in Canda it was completely different.

I myself am an ethnic miority but I'm lucky where I live in Britain there is a lot of integration in schools and the work places.
But there are always pockets in each country that have perhaps by chance have racial homogeney which often results in racial tensions. Some European countries do have racism in sport that is rasing awareness to.
There does need to be awareness, but also people need to careful not to take isolated events and present them as representative of the population.

Some very good points in your post, thank you. Regards to the racism issue, unfortunatley what we experienced were not isolated incidents and seem to be reflective of a wide spread sentiment. I am not as optomestic as you as I see racism everywhere across all political spectrums through all areas of life and from all groups (white and non-white). What actually scares me the most is not so much the racist, but rather the people who smile and deny there is a problem.
