  • China is an amazing country..it is without a doubt a HUGE player on the international scene..they have done more in three decades than any country I know and China can be SO proud of this genius. He is a WOW..fluent in English, fluent in Chinese and athletic and musician extreme at the same time. I am in love!

  • @natalierosen hehee:)) what about Russia and Israel???????????

  • is it sad that im 11 years old and im reading journey of 1000 miles?

  • Lang Lang is fantastic!!

  • When he talks it's really cute and it's good english :)

  • Try before u judge, those "experts"

  • The messages this guy gives us are like pearls and few of us are able to understand this. May you be blessed Lang Lang.

  • He definitely has achieved crossing piano with sports. He managed to create piano olympics. i.e playing fast and furiously and pretending he is expressive by making stupid faces.

  • why argue? i dont care who plays the songs, I love it! Lemme try to mix HIp Hop with Classic and see ya in 10 years^^ Viva la Musica

    god bless yall

    A nobody from Berlin Germany.....

  • Lang Lang is he single? Ok, LL see you in my dreams! =]

  • I like playing piano, but I am not as well as Lang Lang. I think he is cute. I am new to music. I started playing last year. I have private lessons. It makes me happy knowing I can read and play music for myself. Is Lang Lang still in season? I am so out of the loop with the whole world. Right now I am trying to figure out how to settle down in a new world so I am not really aware of international media.

  • 0:08 "Chinese penis lang lang" lol

  • It's incredible to think that there are people who watch these videos and then create comments just to enfuriate people. Don't get too upset people, otherwise you are just adding fuel to their fire. I have my tickets next month for Lang Lang at the Sydney Opera House playing the greatest piece of all - Rach 2. People who can relate to what it means to be moved by his playing I give you a big thumbs up !! peace.

  • asians are good in piano :)

  • Internet fights about lang lang happen when ignorance meets real music.

  • To give an opinion derogatory, who is one of the Chinese musical instrument, such a brilliant play doin

  • what is that because China? What nonsense is this?

Lang Lang is a fantastic genius.

    Chinese music is unique,

Sound different from the European range includes eight sound octave from,

Chinese music pentatonic scale, whereas only five notes in an octave,so radically different sound and technology. Is not a typical China musical instrument of the piano.

Therefore, if such a virtuoso piano playing is someone like Lang Lang, the only deserve respect.

  • he´s a god.

  • okay. friking dumbasses.

if you dont like lang lang and are going to insult him. don't watch this video.

don't go around insult someone who works so hard and puts so much time into doing something.

before you start insulting his piano skills, think about this. Can you play? Can you EVER play as well as he does? NO. then STFU.

every pianist has his/her own style, thats what make them special.

  • CHINESE ONLY COPY, NOT CREATE. lol, jokes.

  • ingenius answers

  • "What is your favorite piece?" That's an unintelligent question...

  • In the beginning, I though he said chinese penis lang lang LOL!!

  • dude this is a awesome video thanks for postings i like lang lang he very admirable and intellegent young man.. bravo.. definatley very easy to relate to.. not a classical wierdo

  • I WANT LANG LANG'S SNEAKERS!!

  • I think classical music will always be alive, i mean every new film is made, you will always hear classical music in the background

  • at 0:07 it sounds like hes sayin chinese penis lang lang

  • @Cologne412

    yes

  • @Cologne412

    hahahaha xD

  • Why are people distracted by ad hominem arguments concerning this man's race? He is blatantly a brilliant recitalist. However, in answer to the interviewer's first question, the best way in which music, irrespective of genre, can be advanced, is to stop merely reciting other people's music and compose your own...

  • people have to remember that no matter a great pianist or a great composer , they all reflect each other ,moon is beautiful , but without sun , it is dark, and yet if there is only a sun, the night is too dark !! we have to see the both side , a great pianist bring the great composer ALIVE !!!! that is it .

  • surprisingly well spoken guy

  • 'what is your favourite piano composition?'

'oh you know... mozart, beethoven, chopin, liszt...'

    hhahaha lists everything.

  • That's crazy! I can't believe those shoes actually have him on there.

  • @freakjobb I had a nice little laugh over that :) I admire LangLang :)

  • Amaizing interview, I agreed with his answers 110% and I defenatly related to the answers and the way that I personally feel about piano and classical music.

  • he's not that great of a pianist, compared to his contemporaries, but damn he's a character. he has a personality, and that does great with his sponsors....that's why he's sponsored. but people like my love LI YUNDI aren't.....

  • @adamsurdreyev he is a BRILLIANT pianist. For anyone to think otherwise is sour grapes. Any profanity will be removed! He is too beautiful a talent to have low class idiocy. Thank you Lqng Lang for what you give to us freely! gorgeous simply gorgeous!

  • I LOVE how the mediocrities of this world hate Lang Lang. (They HAVE to, of course.)

  • Kawaii or Stienway ?? why ?

  • Not a huge Lang Lang fan... I KNOW he's getting into the music but I dont like all the MOVING.

  • @Selendomono I do I LOVE everything about this man! brilliant beyond words

  • He is an intelligent man...

  • @exavian1 He is a charlatan.

  • @exavian1 Says the retarded man.

  • Seriously, he is all for the material gain. He doesn't give rats about providing artistic humility through the great composers. He overrides the role of the composer and puts his stamp on it. This is truly wrong. He treats himself like a pop-icon and so he receives it. This is not what classical music should be like.

  • When listening Lang Lang's performances, I breath just twice - one at the begining and the second at the end of .

  • So many "experts" on youtube. "Experts" who know all about the world and culture. "Experts" who think that just because a man is chinese, his ability to play the piano is hindered, in comparison to those of another race. I'm sure all these "experts" are all virtuoso pianists as well, I'm sure they perform all around the world. Fucking "Experts".

  • @rustymunga I thought it was a stereotype that Asians were good at classical music.

  • @rustymunga sarcasm win!

  • @rustymunga Sorry, mr. expert....But Chinese people have different approach to music. They even have different anatomy of fingers, which are weaker. I dont say I hate him, but European pianists are ahead in this fact and Chinese population is just awakening in this

  • I have one question. When r u gonna start playing beautifully? If you can', then leave.

  • This guy is Brilliant at first i wasnt so sure but listening to his Playing and his Interveiws he seems like such a warm gu and he is a Brilliant Piano player he has the fire and the passion and the Immense dedecation to his music anyone who puts down this guy is oblivy Insecure of their own talent if they have any

  • I'm like this guy! I respect him. The world has forgotten the magic of Classical and the composers. He's so outgoing. Why do some people hate him so much? He's inspired millions of people to take up Classical music and play a musical instrument. He's a good soul, you should respect him as he respects you.

  • Saying that when we see an asian guy playing piano the words "robot, virtuosity, absurdity" come in mind, it's true. Most of the asian pianist playing on youtube just show off their skills in moving fastly their fingers, playing the hardest pieces and nothing more. But Lang Lang can make us claim that there's something different: in his life he just studied music (harmony, history) and played piano, practising until he came to be one of the most appreciated pianist in the world. His skills [...]

  • "practice the piano like learning a kun-fu method" haha

  • if you've ever read his biography you would know why he acts the way he does... no easy life this guy had

  • im just jealous of him because he is very talented and his dedecation hard work and pure talent DESERVES ALL the PRAISE he gets simply mad and brilliant quailtys of an artist

  • Time - "We Live to Edit"

  • No one can say classic music is not perfect, because it is. In anyones' mind, no matter how cruel or violent is, this sounds clean every single madness in it, and creates a total state of peace.

    Unconsciously.

  • @LangaArchitects that implies other styles are not perfect.... there's perfection in all styles of music, its there if we choose to find it...

  • I think classical music lives on as the roots of our modern genres. I hear a lot of Beethoven in The Jonas Brothers. They clearly studied the greats like everyone else but they just apply it in a different and new format. :)

  • @brassmonkeyjew are you joking?

  • @adamjenson4500

NO i'm not. But then again i do have a very atune ear then most. So it may have gone over your head when you hear it.

  • yea chinese!!! represent!!! :D chinese ftw...i play piano too. lang lang and yundi li are my fav pianists. learning polonaise in a (military one) and doctor gradus.

  • btw not being racist or anything i luv all pianists and respect every1's opinion

  • Youth is a naive time like monkeys eating bananas. Since bananas are sweet, regard less it is nutrition or poison involved or not. ... Classical music make true winners and the rest make loosers. It is a sad truth.

  • i love his trainers!!!!! lol XD

  • jeah also made me laugh :D

  • @lakai0307 hahahahahahaahhah you're so right....chinese penis long long hahahahahahaaa

  • some of the comments here show a profound level of ignorance to the point that it irritates me to see such idiocy presented! clearly Lang Lang is a genius and to devalue the man simply because he is chinese is blatantly racist, and to claim that asian people play piano like robots represents a huge level of ignorance! I think it's a safe bet to suggest that those who make these comments have no discernible talent whatsoever, which must seem to them a good reason to devalue anothers talent.

  • Here here. But there is an old saying. Youth is a blunder... which is really a reflection on the type of people posting disrespectful things here.

  • @djblackadder Perhaps when they say he plays robotically, they mean he doesn't play so musically, which I kind of can agree with. Lang Lang has achieved reknown as a soloist, and with the major orchestras. But it's not sheer talent that launches careers. His charisma speaks louder than his music-making, which draws ppl who never listen to classical music. Hilary Hahn is a musician (albeit a violinist) whose talent draws people without the exaggerated movements or publicity stunting.

  • @djblackadder , I agree, only stupid people can't see how stupid is this biased crap......interestingly enough, the ones who hate are never the ones who achieved much.

  • @djblackadder its not the fact that he is asian. It is just the fact that he is just a show-monkey pop-icon. I cherish my records by the old masters, Rachmaninoff, Horowitz, Rubinstein, Ashkenazy. I do believe in the evolution of classical music and its accessiblity today but what would the old masters think at this sort of artificiality? Its is truly rediculous. He has tremendous technique, but everything is fake. What has pianism in the 21st century come to?

  • @djblackadder Geniuses create. Bach was a genius. Liszt was a genius. Einstein was a genius. Geniuses don't just play, they make. As far as I've seen, Lang Lang does not create. He just plays.

  • @Shade0591 I dont agree with that. You can be a genius and not a creator. That is being a composer, but one can still be a musical genius because they feel the music and play like masters. I personally dont like how lang lang plays ive seen his rachmaninoff op 23 no.5 performance and it was jut horrrribbbleee

  • @juanmaaveiro16 But there's a limit to that. You can only play the piece so well, and you can never go beyond that. To be a genius, you have to be exceptional and out of the ordinary. The only way to display such skill, is to work in the boundaries of your own mind and not be limited to others' imaginations.

  • @Shade0591 honestly, if you had attempted playing fairly challenging classical music on the piano, it really takes a hell lot to articulate every single note, every single bump and crevice of the piece at its deserved proportion. You're completely mad to even say that Lang Lang is not a genius. Yea anybody can play. What else? Actors can also never be geniuses because they merely 'read the script'? That being said, geniuses also have different degrees, and need not always deserve respect.

  • @L02T I tell you again, there is a limit. Geniuses can work out of air, but Lang Lang has to work out of a prewritten piece. It seems people don't understand that with discipline to practice an hour or thirty minutes a day one can obtain such skill at playing, but virtuosity requires bonding with music. I wouldn't call Mozart a genius because of how well he could play, I would call him a genius for the beautiful works he made.

  • @Shade0591 of course there's degrees of geniuses. But if really, 1 hour a day, you can obtain such skill and precision, and care taken to each and every note you play, I'd immediately brand you a genius, whether you wrote it or not. At least I'd never have enough intelligence to surmount that. Playing music, at his level and even below his, takes a lot of mental strength and maturity that no ordinary folk can achieve. It's not just about finger theatrics and hitting the right notes. It's genius.

  • @L02T When you practice an instrument, you're doing it wrong if you're not focusing on the piece. Practice has mental and physical exercise built into it. It's simply that people are too lazy to find out for themselves what they can do with application of their time and resources.

  • @L02T Well I believe it's how deep you want to go with the music and how aware you are with the many things there are. I've seen these "ordinary folks" surpassing all my imaginations and then I can't even think where they will be if they keep it that way. But I think 1 part of the genius is the dedication and joy of doing what you like. People that really love what they are doing can achieve amazing things. Also I think horowitz played with his best quality when he was old.

  • @Shade0591 so is Charles Rosen not a genius for his incredibly astute performance of Mozart's Turkish March for instance, or Ashkenazy for his sublime version of Rachmaninov's 18th variation? These and many more are people who have not composed themselves but their skills as virtuosos are unmatched in the western world. Why do you deny them the value of being considered genius simply because they have not produced a work that fits into the western art music canon?

  • @djblackadder why don't we just ignore those idiots and assh0les and enjoy the music? who cares what those miserable clowns say anyway. come on, those guys do not even have the fundamental dignity of being a humanbeing and thus should be just simply ignored.

  • Yeah what he said they should seriously ignored, and he called him Chinese penis Lang Lang.

  • @djblackadder he's a China-man, therefore a robot with no soul...I'm just joking

  • @djblackadder I can't agree with you more.. You know, people here in the states all around me go, "Of course [insert pianist name] is chinese.." and all I do is get pissed off. I won't say that there aren't a lot of chinese pianist, but that's simply because there are 1,331,460,000 chinese to the 307,006,550 people in the us. No shit there are going to be more good pianists coming from china then the US.. there are more than 4 times the people in china than the US. >.>;

  • @EdmondDantesLeComte Sorry, but your statistics are complete nonsense. Do you know why? You have to compare the actual number of kids who are brought up in their households playing the piano. I can almost guarantee you there are more kids in the US growing up with a piano than kids in China growing up with a piano in the household.

  • @trtnec What I said wasn't in any way nonsense, as the statistics are completely accurate as of 2009. Now I hadn't thought of the statistics of "pianos to children" ratios between the two countries.. I can't say in any way shape or form what those statistics are either and I think you raise a valid point. My real intention by my comment was to try to voice my opposition to the stereotype that asians are better at the piano simply because they're asian, but that seems to have backfired.

  • @EdmondDantesLeComte I didn't say those stats weren't accurate, I just pointed out that application of those stats to your hypothesis of "more Chinese therefore more Chinese pianists than American pianists" doesn't work. A better way to compare would be to take the percentage that take piano seriously in each country divided by total pro pianists. I agree there's nothing intrinsically superior about Asians and piano, but I'd say the ones that have access to a piano take it more seriously by far.

  • @djblackadder amen to that brotha!

  • @djblackadder I think the most fucken incredible thing is that your comment over 1 year ago is still relevant to the amount of idiots on youtube today and only shows that the community hasn't taken a single step forward.

  • @djblackadder many have been removed! The perils and evils of the Internet..what can you do. Some people are simply insane.

  • you're a fucking psycho, even reading that comment made me feel sick.. get help, honestly

  • ahahah, maybe you're not right, but it was so fun!

  • @ Organman52, you need to see a shrink to sort out your jealousy issue, don't come on to youtube to attack other viewers....go and get an Organ transplant i.e brain or your penis enlargement ....

  • Lang Lang and his music will last forever

  • In your dreams.

  • So focused on his lifes-and-jobs situation. So agreed with him!

  • damn, he's really a pianist. but that wimpy faces he make at piano make me suspecting

  • I have the exact same thoughts as Lang Lang.

  • I love Langlang! he is so awesome!!

  • great interview.

  • What's the problem with his movements?

Look at fucking Lady Gaga for christs sake. I hate everything about her, but her songs are catchy :D

  • We love you Lang! :) thank you for all the great tunes

  • thank the composers lol

  • inspiring! - reborn to the world. magical moment.

  • I don't get all the Lang Lang hatred around here, what's wrong with showmanship and a little arrogance? You think rock stars are any better? Didn't think so. And come on, the guy is still in his twenties for goodness sake.

  • Yea I agree rock stars aren't any better. But remember that in a style of music, there is both the sound and the whole background.

Rockstars are arrogant and showmen ? That's why people like them ! 'cause that's the "soul" of rock, that's the background which fits the music.

Classical music is more like... humble, adult...

And I think that's why some people dislike Lang Lang. So to like or to dislike him ? I think that's just because of different (and mb both valuable) perceptions of music.

  • There's plenty wrong with showmanship and arrogance. But the real problem with this man is the PRETENSE. He is a rather successful masquerader, but he is not a great pianist or anything close. Just my opinion.

  • then why bother watching him or listening to his interview? you get kick out of this right..pathetic.

  • Why, you ask? So that I can alert others to this fraudulent clown. And no, I don't get a kick out of this - it is appalling.

  • @ organman52 himself, is a great pianist with a 52 IQ ...and it's truely fantastic !!!

  • People that just watch youtube videos and see him rock around while playing don't understand that he truly acts as an ambassator towards classical music.

  • Lang Lang just has his own way of expressing music to himself. I'm sure when you do some things you act a certain way, but you don't see them bashing you for it.

  • I think he is really good too. I dont really have problems with his gestures and expressions because I think the music is of foremost concern. His music has really really good stuff in it.

  • exactly, it's music - it's not about physical movements, it's about the music. So if you don't like it, don't watch, just listen. haha

  • I adore Lang Lang. Truly a great man.

  • after seeing this video i have seen a different side of Lang Lang

  • Same thing for me. I didn't liked him very much before but now he can see he is really into his music and it's geat after all.

  • What he acting is just his way to express the music. I don't really care, I care about the music itself. I like his music

  • He really is not a fool..that's for sure, but it seems that some misunderstand his great sensibility and even greater sensitivity. A shame

  • damn i need to pick up a tux with a huge tail

  • who cares how he looks or acts when he's playing. it's about the music. listen to it! it's great!

  • Why are you so confident and arrogant in your opinion? He has studied piano and music for his entire lifetime and achieved international recognition. Do you even have a performer's designation for any instrument? Be a little more humble and treat his interpretations as learning experiences for yourself, rather than labeling him as "undeserving of his praise", when you probably don't even have as vast an understanding of counterpoint, keyboard harmony, or music history as him.

  • He's 26 years old. His whole life???

  • Whoever you were replying to just got fucking owned!

  • Culture and sport. Oh Lang Lang you dog! So subtle yet so brilliant :)

  • I think what Lang Lang said is "really True" if you are Classical musician I think you will know in your mind

There are many Brilliant pieces and wonderful composer

and Classical music is Absolutely music, If you work hard enough it will serve you

and you can have fun with them ...

  • Upload some of your master piece on youtube, and let's everyone judge you...

    otherwise..... just shut Up!!!!

  • he got good hair xD

  • What a cool guy

  • Comment removed

  • alot of asians have a chip on their shoulder about peoples opinions of LL.hes famous because in his country there is a young vibrant audience for classical music and he is the clothes horse. BUT HE IS SHIT and that is the real truth.ok.

  • Totally agree, and there are many rational reasons to say it.

  • His face is his own little philosophy on how to put expression while performing. No, it is not to show off. And no, if he exaggerates his facial expression, that does not automatically imply he cannot play the piano. And no, just because his manners are not traditionally classical, it does not mean he cannot play classical music.

This is what the majority of retarded comments on Lang Lang videos talk about. Sometimes I wonder if the commenter had sound turned on when they commented.

  • I wonder how would you sound trying to speak his language :)

  • I would sound better speaking both his language and this language, then again, his language is my first language, and english is my second, i wouldn't say shit if i didn't know better. I'm just stating the obvious, calm down!

  • "Question submitted by Chacha Wang".......Is it possible to have a funnier name than that? ; ] .

  • your point is?

  • Despite the immaturity you have to agree that the name is quite halarious :D

  • in my channel there are his complet playing of the rach 2

  • Lang lang is great his style is cool and emotional if its is one thign that i learned about pianist its that they all have diff style abd come in all colors of the rainbow althouhg if may seem asians are the only classical pianist they will tell thats is very wrong. Lang Lang is a great pianist

  • Chinese Clown?? I know you can't play like him which only suggests you're just jealous no one in your country can either!!
