@MrACDC1997 ive got to say i thought the same exacly like u.. i thought they were that kind of electric guitar that everyone has but now i too want one more than anything else..
@MrACDC1997 ive been playing for 8 months but i can already take sultans of swing from the beggining to the end.. but im really looking forward to get my strat.. :P
i had one like that and it literally did fly through space for a short distance of course and amazingly it even changed shape merely by colliding with a wall.. yeh memories. oh well bye
Funny, that's the way I've always felt about the body of the Stratocaster, too. Les Pauls are really sweet, but I dunno....something about a Strat. Great video. Thanks for posting.
Re: Mark's comment about the older generation hating the tremelo bar...
Leo Fender designed the tremelo bar to allow a conventional guitarist to imitate Hawaiian slack-key players and steel guitar players, and in the right hands - like Mark's - it can. I'm sure Mark heard guys like Chet Atkins doing just that, when he was a lad. It breaks my heart that Mark broke up Dire Straits... still not over it... Mark, you reading this? PLEASE put the band back together!
@xalex1200 You can still learn. Read something first in your native language and do it again in English. You can also watch TV in English language and English subtitles. It helped me and I understand him. Just keep practicing.
@VBSouthpaw I have a 65 Strat with a great tone but I find all Strats ugly as hell! Give me a Les Paul any day which is much more like a violin in shape and more like the form of a beautiful woman.....Strats look some American women; battle ship hips!
That '54 Strat is worth more than a lot of people's cars - and some people's houses! Got a '68, but it's just a little brother to this one (but a SWEET little brother, I might add!).
Yup. It's a beauty alright. It's in very nice condition as well.
Fretted Americana have one just like that, around that condition, for $75k. To be frank, if I had the money, I would! I'd live in a box if that meant I could own a real '54 :P
I don't particularly like his music but as a guitarist I think he's one of the best. Never out to show off, just to enjoy the sound. And he can really play when he wants to.
This is the man that changed the way i was thinking, the sultans of swing was a great feed for me to start the guitar!!! He's a great character although his glory :)
the intro solo of money for nothing live at the royal albert hall made me start playing the guitar! for me he's got the best tone. with strat or paula
"Course in doing that they have created this pretty sexy shape." HAHA. Mark you are just classic. I have never seen this before. He's just so cute and funny. Don't care that he's getting up there in age. He's still cute.
For those who've never played an early Fender, you really have to touch one to experience how great and true they sound. It's a lot like when someone shows you the difference between digital and analogue playback, there is a kind of warmth and clarity that is lost in digital. Also their out of phase single coil sound is instantly recognisable ie. sultans of swing/sweet home alabama etc.
my dads friend own a 58 fender strat hardtail witch they only made 1000 hardtails. it sounds as if you're floating through air, worth 25000 he bought it for
I'm sorry, I didn't mean to say that Mark Knopfler isn't a good guitar player. He is wonderful, an absolutely great guitarist. Although I just don't think you can say he is the best. Music isn't like sports, you can be the best on the 100m. sprint for example. not the best in music. music is about expression and feeling.
No, but once a generation or so, you get a handful of innovators. Mark was one of them. It is fair, I think, to say that there are not many that play to Mark's standard. He, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimmy Hendrix, Clapton, Michael Hedges, there are a few of them, but not many when you consider the thousands and thousands of good guitarists. These guys really gave back with new techniques and sounds that we simply didn't hear before they arrived. And they do it with such ease and beauty.
@PaleHearse: I've played for years, and there are many, many guitarists who play to a very high standard... unbelieveably talented people. There are far-fewer, however, at that std. who have an original "voice" - something new or unique to say on the instrument. If I had it to do over again, I'd learn to write songs, arrange, and and also sing. Playing guitar isn't enough, most music fans want vocals. Only the guitarheads care just about guitars, hot licks and so on.
@GeorgiaBoy1961 you are entirely right-- there are a lot of great guitar players, i know a few myself...but the legends sing and play and write great songs-- bb king, knopfler, hendrix, and on and on...learning the crafts of writing and singing greatly increases your chance of reaching an audience..
@soyghost1: Writing and singing help, no question - but another reason Mark stands out is that his sound is readily identifiable. When a Dire Straits tune or one of his solo numbers comes on, you know in an instant that it is him. The same is true of all the greats - they somehow managed to find a style of their own that people could recognize and appreciate. All of them had influences, true, but they made their mark somehow.
this are not al his guitar i got a video that was made in 2001 one where you can see almost al his guitars also the steinberge that he was playing on the song one world from the brothers in arms zd its the last song on the zd
He is so brilliant because he listens and treats his guitar like it's a person. Where as alot of players will just treat it like its some wood.
